I hate that it was hurt but I am somewhat jealous that you got to pet an owl that much. I rescued one once and it let me pet it's feet and I barely touched it's back before it "woke up" and flew away... They are so amazingly soft!
I caught a Coopers Hawk in my back yard about 7 years ago, he was hoping around trying to catch something. I could tell his wing was broken, and he was very dirty. I managed to get him into a cage but not before having a couple of his talons jabbed into my hand, through a leather glove too.
That is the problem with bird that are injured. If u save a bird and it shows no sign of aggressiveness then thats bad it is usually is really hurt then. But the more aggression that a bird shows when it is injured that means it is usually ok. :)
@Zegbana you are 100% right. just before she calmed down in this video i got a nasty look and a fist full of claw that took weeks to heal! i knew @ that moment that she was going to be fine!
@seemomster2 she is back in the wild.... cars are a bid problem for owls, i learned that "fruit trash" is a big problem. that when you toss a banana peel or apple core out your window that it attracts small mammals to the side of the road.
@tlharvey7 D: I didn't know that. I always figured that it was organic, so what was the harm. Now I know :( feels bad, but won't do that again. At least on the side of the road
That owl is going to hook you up in the future, could be with potato chips, could be with lolly pops, could be with bad food at a restaurant with scantly clad exploited women, we shall see!
I had to save a painted tortoise (no not actually painted) from the road once when i was out delivering pizza. I notice this odd lump in the road and pulled over. Geez that guy was heavier than he looked (about a foot and a half from beak to tail).
Heh, just put him in my passenger seat, finished my run and called up my pal who worked at the local animal rescue center, in the meantime the waitresses and I fed him anchovies in the shop. Lucky bastard getting cooed at by hot college girls....
I saved a Barred Owl last year, same story.... Had to dodge trucks to get him out of the road. He was magnificent! He had to be taken to Amicalola Falls, birds of prey shelter. He was released back to the wild a few months later. Happy ending,,, We named him Hooters!
i give this four thumbs up and a ten star rating! i wish there were more people like you in the world to help all animals that endangered, i bet you'd be an expert. ;)
