I've got some problems with exporting. Mostely every second brush isn't showed in hammer. I dont know how to fix it. Also easy quadrats aren't working correctly.
I realy searched for faults, and tried to kill every possible fault.
Did someone have the same problems but figured out how to fix it. It would be nice if someone could help me.
@TakeBackTheWorld hammer is pretty daunting to those who don't know how to use it. this way people new to mapping will be able to create simple maps with ease.
It's a bit of a bind having to group every part you make. One of the joys of sketchup is the easy way to create in anice flowing style. If there was a fast or automated way to group, then ketchup will be a viable alternative to Hammer for some things. Hope there will be a script for this one day.
If it can do mitre joints (esp. for cliffs etc), then it would be great for intial work before converting to displacement. Also I heard they're more economical on vertices.
I'm having hard times making windows :S. When i cut hole to wall and cut wall to pieces and triple click one piece, it selects whole wall. Could you tell me how to do it correctly :3
@WeEatBrainz: Play a movie in a loop using VLC and set VLC to play in the background, has been around for ages. Probably it's from there microsoft got the idea for "dreamscape". In 95-98 you could use a webpage displaying a video as a background too.
Does anyone eles have the problem that they have no "sketchup" folder in the "sourcesdk" folder, anyone know where eles i can get it? (I have the latest update of sdk and have tried reinstalling sdk but its still missing)
I've been banging my head against Hammer for 2 days trying to get my sketch up export working. And now I find that its down to using Concave brushes. Excellent video, finally a solution! Much appreciated.
Great tutorial, saved me from a ton of trial and error testing. Just a minor note, since the July 1st SDK update, anyone who owns a Source engine game (HL2, CSS, DODS, TF2, etc) should have access to the SketchUp plugins via their "Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\sourcesdk\sketchup" folder, not just L4D owners.
Although you said you don't care. Great job on this tutorial, it was very helpful.

Looks like a major PITA having to set 'group' on every piece of geometry, then having to ungroup/regroup anything you want to change later.

What exactly are the benefits/cons of using sketch-up over hammer? I'm very comfortable with hammer but sketch-up looks kind of interesting..
Also where did you get that wallpaper? :p
mikezenox2 2 years ago
It's really more for the benefit of SketchUp users who are not yet fully accustomed to Hammer.
The wallpaper was bundled with my copy of Vista Ultimate; I'm on windows 7 now
Nacimota 2 years ago
Ah, kind of what I figured. I guess I'll just have to check it out for myself to see if it's any improvement :p
Thx

Its better to set up snap precition to 8, or even 16.
p.s. blinking program in bottom panel is annoying, why you dont press on it to stop blink?

try uninstalling (completely ridding your hard drive of any trace of) SSDK, and then reinstalling.
