ok first off the loading on the main rotor head is rated at X tones and the machine only weighs under 500 kgs. now the guy that was flying in the video seemed to be flying slow before he landed, or the rotors arnt big enough , just didnt see much ground effect when he landed, but seems sturdy , and the biggest thing for any sort of flying is the maintenance, heli pilots are a breed in them selves just like gyro pilots every machine has good points and bad points. p.s i fly gyros to ;)
@tastycougs I think the blades are fine in size for this machine. The pilot pulled back high and slowed down pretty high off the runway to demonstrate the suspension on this machine. Even crappy pilots can fly this one! On any other gyro, that would have been a hard landing and there is a good chance that it could bend up landing gear or something like that.
@DanielMadrigalC If the main rotor is lost in flight, the pilot will probably just fall with the machine, but will probably not expect to survive. Luckily that is not a common thing to happen. I have actually never heard of it happening on a gyro....and there are some pretty iffy gyros out there. Sportcopter specializes in their rotorheads and rotorblades.
would the bare minimum parts for a small gyroplane (i wanna call them gyroplanes because they dont really seem like a helicopter to me) be worth somewhere around there?
500 dollars won't buy you much of a gyroplane. Maybe a seat for one! One of our PRA chapter members just bought an old benson for $2500. It needs a lot of work to be airworthy again, but I don't know about finding them for much less. Maybe someone will want to get rid of some old piece of junk one.
They are actually really easy to fly. I would say they take about the same amount of skill as flying a fixed wing airplane. Way easier than helicopters though. This one is actually easier because of the sweet landing gear. A pilots license is about $6000. You have to be 16 years to be able to solo and 17 years old to get a private pilot license.
FAKE! EVERY ONE KNOWS HELICOPTERS DON'T EXIST!

the pilot does not use parachute?
I know maybe this never happened but what does the pilot will do if he loses the main rotor in flight??
!!just fall with the machine and expected to survive?!

these things are considered to be flying death traps by heli pilots.

that things cool,do you need a license?
mrrudedaddy 2 years ago
Ya, right now you need a private pilot gyroplane license. It takes about 40 hours of flight training.

Kit without engine is 59K. The Engine is somewhere around 25K I believe.

Do these require a Private Pilot's License? Or even commercial for a two seater?
Waiting4TheWorms 2 years ago
You should have a Private Pilot License to fly it. You don't need a commercial license.

The tail looks different than previous.
freightdog777 3 years ago
Ya, this is the tail the production Sportcopter 2 will have. This tail allows for better control at higher speeds.
