@AtYourBeckettAndCall So true! What a bloody legend!!! Look out for Mark Cousin's Story of Film from this year - it's on this site. He interviews Donen at length and the the guy looks and thinks like a 40 year old, plus it's the best documentary I have ever seen...
Utterly charming, witty and clever! I remember watching this so many years ago and I was completely captivated by his speech. In those few minutes, he evoked everything wonderful about that era of film. Can we all try to be this unassumingly elegant again?
This was an unforgettable moment. Very classy, dignified, funny, sweet, self deprecating, and full of good advice. You gotta show up otherwise you can't take the credit.
Compare the good nature, humility, and grace displayed by this fine director to that of the self-proclaimed "King of the World" who won Best Director later in the evening.
any one has the clip where they featured 70 past winners like fay wray, shirley temple, etc seated and therewas a standing ovation. It was a very heartmwarming moment. Please post
man when the camera pans in on michael caine,ya got owen wilson behind him lookin like he just smoked a joint an is thinkin who the fuck is scorsese talkin about..love it
I agree, I don't remember many better acceptance speeches: it's lovely, it's funny, it's award related, and it's BIG TIME deserved. Thanks for posting it, mate, I hadn't watched it again ever since. And for a moment I thought saw Gregory Peck alive and smiling. :)
I love this video. I missed this? For one Martin Scorsese seems to be a really nice man a real world treasure. Mr.Stanley Donen OMG what a love! This was lovely ,adorable and clever. WoW! I love looking into the audience to during these events. Timeless!
he such a darling with his dance and song thanks - it brought people to their feet- always remember him for 'singing in the rain, funny face, charade.,two for the road...'
They can't show the movie clips because that clips are property of the studios, not of the academy. They'll need the permission of every studio for every clip of every montage... and that is only possible for the Oscar telecast, not for Youtube.
That's Donna Murphy--a supporting player on screen(Spiderman2, Nanny Diaries), but a major leading lady on Broadway(Passion, Wonderful Town, The King and I). She *is* beautiful.
This makes me smile. As a 30+ year fan of film musicals, and considering that song-and-dance films aren't done anymore, this was an especially fitting tribute to *and* from director Stanley Donen. The man broke into a song and dance!! Absolutely stunning.
That's a man with class. I love all of his musicals, but especially love his direction of my favorite Audrey Hepburn film (and one of the first true 'road' pictures) "Two for the Road".
is that Fred Asatire jr>?

The Oscars always have such great montages. Honestly they're some of the best parts. It's sad they can't show them on here.

does AMPAS ask for permission from the respective studios to use their clips when posting these videos? After all, isn't this free advertising?
animeeclipse 1 year ago
@animeeclipse unfortunately, we do not have clearance to play the movie clips.

So you do ask but never receive permission?

@Oscars Such a shame. Missing a huge opportunity here. Oh, well. Thank you for this gem of a video. :)
