  • is that Fred Asatire jr>?

  • This is without a doubt the best Oscar speech ever. All Oscar winners from here on out should be required to watch this.

  • @AtYourBeckettAndCall amen to that, heh heh!

  • @AtYourBeckettAndCall So true! What a bloody legend!!! Look out for Mark Cousin's Story of Film from this year - it's on this site. He interviews Donen at length and the the guy looks and thinks like a 40 year old, plus it's the best documentary I have ever seen...

  • A director just has to cast his movies well, show up and stay the hell out of their actor way

  • excellent, that is what is called an acceptance speech...classy, stylish, witty and just perfect!!!

  • So richly deserved. He's a great man.

  • one the best acceptance speech ever

  • Utterly charming, witty and clever! I remember watching this so many years ago and I was completely captivated by his speech. In those few minutes, he evoked everything wonderful about that era of film. Can we all try to be this unassumingly elegant again?

  • Perhaps the best acceptance speech ever. He is truly Great. Does anyone know where I could see the film clips?

  • This is so charming. I can't imagine a more befitting way to accept an award.

  • This was an unforgettable moment. Very classy, dignified, funny, sweet, self deprecating, and full of good advice. You gotta show up otherwise you can't take the credit.

  • The Oscars always have such great montages. Honestly they're some of the best parts. It's sad they can't show them on here.

  • does AMPAS ask for permission from the respective studios to use their clips when posting these videos? After all, isn't this free advertising?

  • @animeeclipse unfortunately, we do not have clearance to play the movie clips.

  • @Oscars

So you do ask but never receive permission?

  • @Oscars Such a shame. Missing a huge opportunity here. Oh, well. Thank you for this gem of a video. :)

  • Compare the good nature, humility, and grace displayed by this fine director to that of the self-proclaimed "King of the World" who won Best Director later in the evening.

  • best acceptance speech ever

  • any one has the clip where they featured 70 past winners like fay wray, shirley temple, etc seated and therewas a standing ovation. It was a very heartmwarming moment. Please post

  • Owen Wilson: 0:43 Ham?? Who is he talking about?? Err... Who is he??

  • One of the best Oscar moments ever.

  • .46..owen wilson.

  • man when the camera pans in on michael caine,ya got owen wilson behind him lookin like he just smoked a joint an is thinkin who the fuck is scorsese talkin about..love it

  • What a class act. I love the faces in the audience that get it!!! Especially Sean Connery.

  • This is my favorite Oscar moment of all time.

  • What a beautiful, lovely speech.

    Unassuming, yet very profound.

Stanley Donen. A name synonymous with genius...

  • great Oscar moment

  • I agree, I don't remember many better acceptance speeches: it's lovely, it's funny, it's award related, and it's BIG TIME deserved. Thanks for posting it, mate, I hadn't watched it again ever since. And for a moment I thought saw Gregory Peck alive and smiling. :)

  • This is the best Honorary Oscar speech ever!

  • He is my great uncle!

  • One of the best. Timeless indeed!

  • hello Laura

  • I love this video. I missed this? For one Martin Scorsese seems to be a really nice man a real world treasure. Mr.Stanley Donen OMG what a love! This was lovely ,adorable and clever. WoW! I love looking into the audience to during these events. Timeless!

  • he such a darling with his dance and song thanks - it brought people to their feet- always remember him for 'singing in the rain, funny face, charade.,two for the road...'

  • Great video, but seriously... does Martin Scorsese hold the record for presenting honorary Oscars? He's a great sport!!!

  • That's how I see an acceptance speech : no a lot of thank you, just tap dance :)

Seriously : well done Mr Donen, 'you put a smile on my face' ;))

  • with ALL of these honorary oscar award videos...they DON"T SHOW all the movies that made them who they are! SHAME ON THEM

  • They can't show the movie clips because that clips are property of the studios, not of the academy. They'll need the permission of every studio for every clip of every montage... and that is only possible for the Oscar telecast, not for Youtube.

  • What a doll!

And he gave a shout out to Gene Kelly, They didn't talk after after 1955.

  • trop la classe

    j'adore

  • Such a wonderful director... He really deserved it! I love his movies....

  • thank you for this video! this is my absolute honorary oscar moment!!! wish you showed the whole thing with the movie montage.

  • Wonderful, warmhearted performance! Who is the beautiful , touched woman beside Joel Grey,

    seen from 4:08 to 4:12 ?

  • That's Donna Murphy--a supporting player on screen(Spiderman2, Nanny Diaries), but a major leading lady on Broadway(Passion, Wonderful Town, The King and I). She *is* beautiful.

  • very nice speech

  • This is too cute,Stanley Donen deserves it cause he has made some fantastic films(My personal faves are "Singin' in the rain"(duh)&"Charades"

  • As far as I'm concerned, he's Hollywood royalty.

  • That is now my favourite Oscar speech eva!!!!

  • Nice to see Miss Fay Wray on this clip. Anyone else spot her? Please upload her Billy Crystal moment, its fantastic!

  • Best Oscar moment ever

  • Please upload Mary Pickford's honorary win

    It is soooo moving.

  • This makes me smile. As a 30+ year fan of film musicals, and considering that song-and-dance films aren't done anymore, this was an especially fitting tribute to *and* from director Stanley Donen. The man broke into a song and dance!! Absolutely stunning.

  • SO sweet, Donen. THANK YOU

  • This was FABULOUS,WONDERFUL and MARVELLOUS! Thank-you "oscar"!

  • he was at The Hollywood Bowl this year, he was a guest host with John Williams, and Williams played a bit of music from Donen's films

  • hey, Oscars staff: it's Scorsese, not Scorcese..

  • Single greatest Oscar speech, aside for when Don Ameche won for COCOON

  • One of the Best Acceptance Speeches Ever. You go Stanley.

  • Could you upload John Mills win?

  • That's a man with class. I love all of his musicals, but especially love his direction of my favorite Audrey Hepburn film (and one of the first true 'road' pictures) "Two for the Road".

  • *claps hands gleefully and squeals*

For me that is without question the best and most charming acceptance speech in Oscar history. Thank you so very much for posting it.

  • Stanley Donen STOLE the show that night!

  • This is so precious!

  • This guy seems very grateful for his Oscar.

  • This was Brilliant

  • best oscar speech ever, but oscars greatest moment y chaplin's honorary oscar

  • What a class act. One of the best Oscar moments ever.

  • Sooo cute!!!!!! I love him!

  • MY HERO!

  • my favorite oscar moment of all time, but why do you guys insist on cutting out the film clips??? seeing the clips of donen's works was exhilarating.

  • AMPAS does not own the rights to the film clips; the studios do. Therefore, we must cut them out.

  • The God of the american musical...his films brought me such delight :)

  • The last representative of the American musical cinema

  • that was FANTASTIC! what an adorable man!

  • Simply the BEST speech ever

  • That was the best acceptance speech EVER!

  • She died in 2004 at the age of 96.

  • 98 years
