Tommy was singing lead so beautifully and being backed up by Bobby what a blessing to hear. Blessings to Tommy and all the gifted DeBarge family. Rest in Peace, Bobby.
damn, its hard to believe this cut is 30 years old. i first heard this song back in 81 i believe during the time my dad was stationed in germany. it was way before its time as i hear it now it doesn't sound dated. trips me out when people who never knew about switch hear switch and think when bobby drops the lyrical bombs that they are hearing el. el himself has said he couldn't hold a not to his brother.
Someone prally posted this already, but it is Tommy doing the lead on the verses and then Bobby does the lead on the chorus... This is truly a great song... This one actually got me thru a break-up some twenty years after it's debut...
@Urology707 I thought that was Tommy singing on there along with Bobby. It never mentioned on the album of who was singing lead on the songs and I figured since Tommy wrote the song he was singing on it as well.
This song as well as other Switch Ballads slipped thru the cracks. When you have "There'll Never Be" and "I Call Your Name" being requested by everyone and their third cousin...well some songs just get looked over. Now I need to go vinyl hunting and see if I can find these rare gems.
bobby u was the best at what u did, and u and the guy's from switch and your family r sooo fine. and u (bobby)r so missed, and will alway's b loved, may u r.i.p and u and your father find that enternal peace's that u two could not find on earth. we will never u, i love u bobby. 11-02-09.
Dang I must be gettin old. This one slipped through my memory cracks, by title alone, but ahhh when Tommy started singing I was right THERE. Thanx for uploading. Oh how I loved the ethereal, spiritual essence of other tracks on that album, like "Don't Take My Love Away" and "My Friend in the sky" (stellar)
RIP Bobby, you definitely made your mark and will live on!
Wow I always wonder if Tommy every got the chance to lead on a song and here it is! He sounds great!!! Has the trademark DeBarge sound :-). They should've given him more opportunities to sing...But he killed it on the bass :-D
Tommy DeBarge and Bobby DeBarge wrote this very cool & underrated song from Switch III: Reaching For Tomorrow. Bobby is singing the second lead vocal and Tommy is the 1st lead vocal.
i remember the 1st time i heard this song i was in jr high school gettin my hair done at the shop the lady was playing this song i kept asking her to replay it .i was then a good almost great singer myself
I love this song, Switch is one of my all time favorite groups. Their sound was so unique and fresh. Excellent vocals, great music and arrangements, they were the total package.
I was a huge fan, "There never be" " I call your name" where some of their hits. Which when I bought the album's I found "Dont take my love away" and "I finally found someone" and "You and I".. The were an awsome group and will go down in the music history. We all know about the problems, but as fans we still adore the music... Long live Switch/De Barge....
I am sorry but this does not sound like a Bobby Debarge lead vocal. I know that he and Phillip were the lead vocalist but sometimes they "Pulled A Switch." Could this have been
Tommy DeBarge on lead. Nevertheless it is a great song from a great concept album REACHING FOR TOMORROW.
After Bobby and Tommy left the group, Motown dropped Switch from the label, and they signed with Total Experience and released one album before they disbanded. Had they stayed with the group, they could have been more successful, but Bobby wanted to get a solo deal and help his brothers in Debarge. He did become the lead singer of DeBarge in the late 1980's after Motown dropped DeBarge in 1985
Switch had one of the most unique sounds of the late 70's and early 80's, with basically 2 lead singers with both seprano and barotone (excuse spelling please)we missed the singing bands of those days.
Switch had a LOT of songs on their 4 albums which could have been huge hits...and should have been. I say 4 albums because I don't really consider the last Switch album a true Switch album. The members had changed drastically, which changed the sound immensely. It didn't sound like true Switch...more like an imitation of Switch and. as we all know, it didn't work. No disrespect to those new guys, but they weren't Switch. This song was one of the brilliant workings of Bobby and Bunny.
Actually, you're right! It is their biggest song I was thinking about...There'll Never Be, co-written by Bobby and Bunny. My apologies for any confusion!
@starsofsound Yo, you seem to have a respectable knowledge of this group and im only 19 so this was b4 my time i was wondering if you could tell me what the album names were and which one i shouldn't get hahaha. Thanks 4 your time.
Man I just pray that SOMEBODY would find some kind of video footage of SWITCH !!! I know they've been on Soul Train a couple of times and Don Kirshner.. Somebody out there has it !!
This is from Switch's "Reaching For Tomorrow" Lp in 1980. This wasn't a single from what I understand. The only single released from that album was "Don't Take My Love Away". This might have been a B-side though.
Thank You. I agree. I have the Greatest hits that was released in 1991. You would think that a Slow Jam Compilation or Ultimate collection would be out.
One of the baddest falsetto's EVER!!
R.I.P. Bobby D.

This was true music when singers cared more about the craft than the money. A very much missed era or music.

Bobbys voice sounds angelic and the back ground vocals are amazing. Switch should have found another record label, this group left us way to soon.
