I saw an article in some pet mag at my last visit to the vet that said dogs do have dreams and nightmares. Both of which can cause whimpering and spasms. The author said that most likely when there was paddling during a dream it is the dog having a good dream about chasing prey or playing in an open field. Your dog must have been having the best time until BOOM! straight into the wall.
