My daily driver is E46 328i and E30 325 weekends. 328i is more responsive with Signature Motoring performance (CAI) intake kit. Installed it myself in under half hour. HP increase on the E46 is about 13.5HP for a cost of $170 or around $17 per HP gain. Best 1st performance mod to do. Other application data:

E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain

E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain

E46 series: 6.0-13.9hp gain

E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain

Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp gain

I can't see the tach on the mach but going by the sound and my own experience, the mach was doing 30 rolls from 2nd gear which= mach not in powerband. When I still had the 3.55s I remember from 30mph in 1st gear punch the car would be at redline almost before I got my foot all the way down, and the mach in this video went for like 2 blocks in the same gear. To the mach owner- 2nd gear=40mph, 1st= 20mph, my suggestion is dont do any at all unless you're at 400whp.

i would also like to point out that the fastest lap in a sock E46 M3 on the nordschliefe, which we can all agree is the best racetrack in the world, is 8:22. i couldnt find times for a stang on there, but that is faster than an Imreza STi, a CLK 63 AMG, and a c5 corvette (auto, but still faster by 18 seconds)

It's sad that the M3 meeds that many mods to get that kind of power. A stock 03/04 cobra with exhuast and a pulley swap can make 500rwhp and 500rwtq. That's the reason the M3 needs to rev to 8000rpm, because it doesnt make any power down low.

again i say, the bimmer and the mustang both accelerate fairly well stock and with all-out upgrades both cars are blazing fast. But the main reason why the BMW is the better car is the handling. I dont know if 5th gear has done a review on a Mach 1 or any mustang for that matter, but Jeremy's review on the M3 really speaks for itself. As car enthusiasts, we can all agree that his word is basically law.

of course there are built cars that can beat other built cars.. that will always happen no matter what you drive. Just thought I'd throw out an example of a type of m3 that can stand its ground in a straight line race.

and if the HPF kits don't impress you in silly youtube street races, look at the stats. They have multiple cars putting down 60-130 times equal to the veyron and they are currently creating a kit that they claim can easily rival or beat the veyron in a 0 to 200mph to 0 race.

M3 dusted the Mach 1. No surprises there. Only a SVT Cobra with S/Cér can out-run the E46 M3 because they can run high-12s all day (M3 does a 1/4 mile in 13.1 secs on a good run). Still it is a shame considering almost twice the displacement with a s/cér to out-run a low-13 sec car.

drivers make a difference too. with pretty simple mods an na cobra will take an e46 m3. mine would. not even close to twice the displacement though, unless your counting blower displacement which no one really does. the mach 1 driver also started in the wrong gear it seemed like.
