Technically, you can always find a small group of unhappy separatists in every company, and say "they asked us to come in help".
In reality, it is not sufficient excuse to start the war with the country.
So technically, Russia can also say "Texas separatists asked us to help them" and invade other US states (yes funny, but this is exactly what US does to other countries).

I am from Russia, I personally think that NK is much bigger threat to the world than Iran. I don't trust US accusing Iran in all sorts of crap after what US did in Iraq (now we see that it was all about control of oil, not some non-existant WMDs). But what NK is doing is simply crazy. As Russian, I don't want to have them next to our borders. I hope Russia and US will work together against NK (although Russia will try to *look* neutral and blame US for any military actions, I am sure).

If US military uses nuclear weapon in North Korea, this would be beginning of World War 3 because radioactive dust from nuclear blast will affect China and Russia territory. This is similar to what would happen if Russia nukes something next to US borders.

anvigos- The practical reality is that the US does not need to use nukes anymore. The US keeps some but destroyed a vast part of the arsenal. Nukes will always be a last and final measure when no other optiion is viable. You may rest assured that the US defense dept has incredible non-nuclear and anti-ABM capabilities. Therefore, it is virtually unlikely that the US will run out of non-nuclear options and resort to using nukes. A nuke war cannot be won, reasonable people know that.

As someone with military knowledge, trust me when I say north korea is a threat to no one. They'd lose to South Korea. Also their "nukes" are 5 kilotons or less, basically just big bombs. Won't do much damage and they only have 2-3 left, plus they have to be dropped by plane.
As far as this missile, even if it worked, it is 500km short of Hawaii.

You don't always need a full-scale device for tests, remember Tsar bomb. They may be just keeping plutonium for other uses.
Even a 5kt explosion may kill many thousands of people and contaminate large areas - fallout depends on many factors, not only on yield.
If the number of nuclear powers keeps rising, sooner or later a nuke will come into 'wrong hands'. Terrorists don't need good missiles.

A while back I worked for a very large US technology corporation where I met some very very intelligent people who were very good at their craft, manny of them were socially inept and some outright nuts..
Sanity is not synonymous intelligence.

Scorp:The racism is the suggesting that an Asian leader of a small vulnerable country is "insane" when he does in a modern context what small vulnerable white societies-ie ancient Greek states,medieval central & balkan European duchies & such- did when they faced the huge superpowers of their day and history does not conclude or imply that they were "insane" for what they did to preserve their people & territories.
