In this game, you should keep your level at the lowest. The higher your level, the stronger the enemy. But when you keep yourself at a low level, you can attach strong magic to your attributes and you become god.
My friend in primary school tried to become stronger by gaining level, but this way he become weaker and weaker. At the end, he begged me to help him defeat not bosses, but single enemies.
Edea at lunatic pandora died in one attack, but first I drawed some useful magic.
FFXII wasn't that bad. The game was really fun especially with the side quests. It was the story that kind of ruined it but i had a really fun time playing it. I agree that the old games will always be the best...
FF8 was a fundamentally flawed game. I once got stuck where my level, HP, and items were too low to beat a boss. The game would not allow me to leave the area until I beat the boss. So the game allowed me to dig myself into a hole. I had to use game shark to get out. Also I could NEVER find the items to make new weapons, so I had my stock weapon through the whole game. Boss battles were too long and tedious with having to waste turns extracting magic. Good game with major flaws.
@AtomicWrangler86 I think it's just your strategy. Whenever you're level is too low, you have to go level up, whether you have the patience or not. And you also have to learn to balance out XP between your players. I mainly just stuck with Squall, Zell, and someone else. I never really balanced it out, so when I got to the big machine boss battle.. I was screwed..
@khhottie1 I think it happened on the lunatic pandora, I'm not sure it was back in the 90s last I played, but I was suppose to fight edea. The problem I had was that I wasn't able to leave the area to buy supplies and level up until I beat Edea. My level was to low. My HP was really low, I had no items or magic to heal, and I unfortunalty used the save point. I was lucky to make it to the boss battle without getting annihilated by a common enemy battle on the way. A flaw square overlooked.

@AtomicWrangler86 Before you go into Lunatic Pandora, you should get all the GF's. One of the most important GF's is Thornberry. He has the ability to 'Call Shops'. Therefore, you can access any type of shop anywhere at any time. As entering Lunatic Pandora will cut yourself off the world until you can get out in Ultimecia's Castle, it is ideal to have.
i really wanna play ff8 again but im 27 with a full-time job. It's harder and harder these days to commit 70+ hours to a game. If i only I knew back then how much free time I REALLY had back in Highschool
It's great to see a game series that abled fans to become attached to the game that best related to them. It's great for gaming or any other medium of entertainment. With that said, this also breeds some very fickle people that spread a lot of hate for things other people say about other FF games theye may not like. but I have always had a theory to the ending of this game.
K.. so lets say when squall got hit with that blizzard spell and it pierces his chest. he dies. end of disc 1 right? well start of disc we wake up in prison. hole in your chest is gone... from there on in the game maybe its all a dream and squall is really dead. the ending of them game fits this theory too. I have NEVER understood the ending. some one help me please =(

My theory is this: Whenever a character in the FF series, or most rpg's for that matter gets KO'd, that's just what he is, knocked out, not dead. In the FF series, even [death] just KO's you. The blizzard spell that Edea cast on Squall could've just KO'd Squall, only that this time (in the cinematic) we got to see the actual "KO sequence". As such, Squall fell down, and Delling City's guards could presumably sieze him.

Furthermore, I honestly enjoyed Final Fantasy 8 more than any other Final Fantasy except for Final Fantasy 10. Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 10 are both equal in my book because they bring different elements to the table. As for best story, Final Fantasy 8 takes the lead.
I played Final Fantasy 7 after 8, it didn't compare much at all, though I enjoyed the materia system.

I see that you're from Canada. In order to find the FF8 soundtrack on iTunes, follow these instructions.
1. Scroll to the bottom of the iTunes homepage where it says "My Store". Select "United States" from the list.
2. In the search box, enter "Final Fantasy VIII".
You should see all of the FF8 tracks! =D
