This show was my first exposure to martial arts as a teenager, loved it at the time, these days all I can think is what a shame that Bruce got screwed out of the part.
@yinyangnature But surely if we strive for goodness the outflow of goodness will follow and we should not have to worry about ego. Besides, should not our actions have some calculation involved lest we become impulsive?
@iluvm16 How can we be sure good is not merely evil in disguise? Often one man's benevolence is another man's malevolence. All armies believe God is on their side. The Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades and those who exposed witches; tortured and murdered 10000s of the name of righteousness. Yet due to our social dichotomy conditioning, this is very difficult for us to grasp. I suggest you read an online version of the “Tao Te Ching” to broaden your understanding of a Nature beyond good & evil.
@yinyangnature To you both: It is not the effort, the watchfulness, or so much thought which answers you or keeps one good - it is always being aware and listening to the moment you are in -for it is your only moment - without any defenses or walls so that you can feel everything, including you, unseparated, and know. If you are without defenses, without walls, everything will touch you, and you will touch everything. In this you will see, and know how to care, to ask, to grow.
@yinyangnature "How can we be sure good is not merely evil in disguise? Often one man's benevolence is another man's malevolence. All armies believe God is on their side."
Far too true. I often find it strange how religious groups such as the Christians are so quick to point out what they feel is good, evil, just, or unjust. Yet, they seem to forget that it was the knowledge of good and evil that led to Adam and Eve's banishment from a perfect world (aka Eden) to begin with.
@joedimaggiosgirl Humility doesn't quite equate to knowing what good is inside of you, humility is the quality of being humble. While many of Christ's teachings do support this (such as MATT 5:22), I find that far too many Christians seem to glance right over Christ's teachings of humility and tolerance but choose, instead, to focus only on the parts of the Bible which correlate to their personal likes and dislikes (a prime example being the Evangelicals who proudly bear "God Hates Fags" signs).
@Mystrymeat too many people spend too mcuh time expoundiing their `knowledge' not to teach (although that's what they couch it in) but to show superiority(at least in their own mind). I knew you would come back with a long winded response filled with biblical quotes and I knew you would repeat the same tired judgements on Christians- truth be told the majority of us are not as you assume, not in the least. Making sweeping judgements is easy.
@joedimaggiosgirl You may have misunderstood my statement. I didn't say that all Christians don't show humility, I just said that many of the ones I've encountered just so happen to be very cynical. What tired judgement or winded response have I made? The biblical quote I referenced was IN FAVOR of Christianity, not against it. Did you actually read my statement?
@yinyangnature Good as evil in disguise? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. That's why it's important to know yourself truly, and why you have the intentions you have. Only then can you discern why you do things, and what purpose it truly serves. Lots of activist in this world think they are fighting for justice or against evil, when in fact, they are only acting out of some internalized anger, hatred, or disturbing thoughts.
Being a Christian, I can understand why you would say what you said. I offer no excuse whatsoever for actions of the past except to say that these people were acting out of the evil that was already a part of their nature which was corrupt to begin with. They may say "In the name of God" but you, as well as I, "know a tree by it's fruits" and can see that their actions were evil. The worst part of it was they were suppose to have done it..."In the name of God".
@Ma007rk The Dharmic view is very different to the Abrahamic view. We believe good & evil reside in every being. All evil comes from ego, due to the self interest arising from fear. Good and wisdom can only be found by disregarding ego and discovering our True Nature. This is our view of the world as children, when we saw all things equal. Try to justifying war, torture, racism, sexism, religious intolerance and capital punishment to a child. Of course, to do so would be considered child abuse.
Being unfamiliar with the Dharmic view, I can neither agree or disagree except to say that I would agree with you and say that good and evil does reside in every being. The best of men are still "men at best" in the truest sense.
@Ma007rk May I recommend a Youtube video to you? It's called "Patch Adams and the end of capitalism". This is as close to True Nature one can ever get. I hope you find it as inspirational as I do.
@yinyangnature I watched The Tao of Kung Fu #19 and please help me to understand. Was the master saying that whatever is truly inside us should be allowed to outflow naturally?
@iluvm16 A question I often ask of myself: are my actions coming from my inner nature or ego? If my actions are purely to elevate my importance, even if others benefit, its ego and therefore not Tao. Only actions arising without any calculation come from our inner nature & are Tao centred. To fine our inner nature, we must become as a block of wood before it is carved. In Taoism this is call P'u. This is a childs mind before society corrupts us with ego, desire, materialism. Google: Tao Te Ching
@yinyangnature thats very true i ask myself that question a lot, because when you remember yourself as a kid your actions were not based off of the judgement of others or to better your outward apperance, they were just natural, without thought.
It is quite clear that Caine was trying to impress the younger monks and the master knew it. However, if one professes to be a follower of this, or a believer of that, should they not be concerned that others see them as being genuine and not hypocritical? I know one's belief is their own, but to profess on thing and live another could make one look foolish.
@TheChiwhiz my friend dont look back at the past, for you have walked the journey you were suppose to have walked. what matters is the "now", you are breathing in this moment so do to life as you wish, as long as it is good for yourself for the universe.
@TheChiwhiz ...have no regrets for what was or what you were before. Each of our paths in the current life are shaped by Karma. What matters is you embrace your past, learn from it and also unlearn from it. That is how the Spirit evolves. Consider: You are far more than you know yourself to be...and hopefully....always a little less than you can be. Success in all you do.
@TruthAxe. Wilson then goes on to say: "Those who dont have the same reality tunnel as us don't seem ignorant; deliberately perverse; lying or hypnotised by some mad ideology. They just have a different reality tunnel and every reality tunnel might tell us something interesting about our world.... if we are willing to listen." This is the only way to both peace and Truth my friend.
@TruthAxe. I like this quote from Robert Anton Wilson: "So there is no vantage point from which real reality can be seen. We're all looking from the point of view of our own reality tunnel. When we begin to realise that we are all looking from the point of view of our own reality tunnels, we find it is much easier to understand where other people are coming from".
YinYangNature, which Tao Te Ching translation are you using here from chapter 24 in your video commentary? (love the lucidity of this passage. Thank You!) "People who make a show are not wise.
Those who are self-righteous will not be respected.
Those who boast achieve very little and don't endure.
Behaving in this way will not bring happiness.
People are despised for there pride and admired for their humility."
@87cyberman. Unfortunately Im working away from home at the moment, so I dont have access to all my resources. However I think its from the Tao Teh King Translated by Archie Bahm. Bahm, a US academic, wrote this version drawing on the best translations from many of the versions available. Therefore it's a kind of 'best of' version of this pivotal Taoist book.
@yinyangnature Funny. I've been reading the John Wu translation with, what I think is, pre-reformation Chinese (I guess it'd be Kanji in Japan). I like the translation because though the English is deeply flawed you can go to something closer to the original script with a Chinese dictionary. So you can get what an English speaker would understand and what a Chinese speaker would understand in the same book. A slow and difficult read this way, but quite rewarding.
@87cyberman. After a lot of searching around, I discovered the version I used is the "thebigview" website, translated by Tolbert McCarroll. I hope this helps you my friend. I've updated my commentary to reflect this information.
Interesting that both Bruce Lee and David Carradine left this world under "mysterious" circumstances. With Lee at only 32, who would you have thought to be in better shape? Maybe celebrity is a kind of curse reflected in both our need for it and their seeking it.
this is so true other people cant see how you really are because their view is coloured with biases and prejudices like socrates said to thine ownself be true.
I grew up watching this, the sad part is, Bruce Lee should have gotten David Carradine's part. He was too asian for Hollywood, so they faked this guy.
Thanks for your comment. Biologists have found our species to be the most altruistic animals on earth. We inherently have a lot of empathy for others and generally show others kindness. To not act in this way requires a lot of social conditioning and it is this that is the problem.
Therefore if we are mentally healthy and always follow our own true nature, there is no reason we would maliciously harm anyone or anything. My website may explain this further for you. There is a link on this page.
I have a problem with this message. I understand that there is no need to "show off." But disregarding how others see you might mean that you go through your life hurting others and not knowing why. You should consider from time to time how you come across to people. It might explain a great many riddles to oneself.
cutis1000, disregarding how others see you doesn't mean you can't listen to what other say about you. It just means whatever you do you do it for your inner self, not your egotistic self. The ego likes to show off cause of insecurity and fear. When you are secured, you don't need to show off, others will just see it and respect you.
I don't think you should disregard how others see you because if they see you in a bad light you might not get the job you want or the girl you are interested in. It's very important to maintain a good reputation.
Not true at all and you missed the point of this. If one focuses on bettering themselves first in all aspects internal such as behavior. When really who care what other people thinnk when they see you. Your behvaior is already proper and modest because you have looked inside and made the effort to be so.
There have certainly been successful humble businessman(Carnegie, Branson ect) and also egotistic successful businessmen. Both are successful the difference being one has peace in their heart and the other always striving never arriving feeling in their hearts. A feeling of peace is what these philosophies are heading you towards.
It is but we live in an external orientated world where we need things to make us happy. We are driven by desire. That leads to unhappiness. If we can supress our desires peace is possible.
I once saw an argument between two people. I could see reason/truth in both their arguments. But they didnt "meet at the middle", nor did they give credit to the other.
Some believe this to be a necessity to get anywhere, and that if we all walked the middleway. Then we wouldnt get anywhere...
But in reality, my opinion was, that those two people actually didnt get anywhere.
What do you (or anybody else) have to say about this?
@yinyangnature - I had used the word 'ego' for some time and now I rather see it as what I identify with. It's the act of identification, it's the act upon which scale I mesure my value. Through which I look at myself. It's just an act of judgment and identification. A belief about myself - my ego is where is my belief about who I am - and my mesure of my value. It thrives on comparision and relationships to things, situations, people - upon which I define myself.
An ego is perfectly fine if it is kept well under control. Yet in our highly materialistic culture egos often become hyper-inflated, resulting in exploitation.
As the Dalai Lama once said,People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of inner peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultivation of altruism, of love and compassion and elimination of ignorance, selfishness and greed.
Ego certainly does appear to exist at the conscious level that we feel we live. But we only feel we exist at this level because this is the only level in which we have sensory inputs. For we don't have sight and sound at the cellular or atomic level.
But where is our ego at the fundamental level in which our reality is actually comprised? Ego is simply a illusion of our sensory inputs, since it has no reality at all in the boundariless quantum level, that all things arise.
@TruthAxe wow man, that really resonates. and when we really know human nature, and have openness instead of perception, that which is called ego is naturally re-aligned. changes become apparent, only as we have returned to our original unconditioned nature.
It is fair to say that we need to experience extremes to gague what 'the middle way' means to us. However, if this is our only method of learning the middle way, we will be very limited and too rigid in our approach to life. Dharmic concepts are usually very fluid. The middle way can probably be best understood through both personal experience (as you advocate) and the intuintion which is found through meditation. One without the other is perhaps not so useful? But I don't know...
The Buddha had to experience the extremes, but it was only when he connected with his intuitive wisdom (through meditation) that he was able to understand the middle way.
So the middle way is both the path and the goal.
I really don't pretend to know much on this though.
Bobba (yinyangnature) nails it in much more concise and wise words.
Wonderful thoughts! It's brilliant that Bobba has given us all these wonderful videos and commentries to stimulate the growth of wisdom. Thank you!!!
If you see yourself in a positive light than people will like you. If you are dependent on the opinion of others you will be caught in the ego trap which leads you to being not at peace, always striving never arriving. Don't follow this path.
I wholeheartedly agree with the advice given above. After all, does a bird care if anyone listens to its song? Yet the bird sings whether anyone is listening or not, because it is in its nature to do so. Please keep up your good work and continue to bring the world pleasure with your music; regardless to anyone listening.
This hit me hard. I'm a student of music with the intent of a professional career in music. Music is entertainment, the sole purpose is for show. How do I do what I love, what I'm talented and have trained hard to do without falling into a desire for admiration and respect? It seems like in order for me to get anywhere in music I would have to demand respect and acceptance from people.
Thanks for your feedback, yinyang, I appreciate you posting these :)
Not at all. The essence of performance is art and the essence of art is self-perfection. If you sing for others you will never be great. If you want to be great, you will not perform for others but for yourself.
If I may be so forward as to offer some unbidden advice, as you do what you love because you love it, how could anything but positive results come from you sharing it with others? Keeping your talent to yourself might be very humble, but would that not also be selfish on your part? I believe you would be causing inner conflict only if you ended up doing something that you did *not* truly love but you did it only to impress others and gain, as you say, their respect and acceptance.
R.I.P David, I am from HONG KONG, very far away from your country but your acting in this series was lasted in my memory for over 2 decades, your humble look and motion really can't be easily taken away from my memory.
yes of coarse. Bruce was a decent actor and we all know that he was into philosophy.I think bruce would have brought a high level of charisma and truth. And being chinese also makes him more fit for the role.Plus the dialogue was not exactly serious buisness in KUNG FU but hey listen we all have different opinions
if everyone changes themselves, then nobody would need to change another. you cannot change someone who does not want to be changed so those that want to change will seek out help, themselves. it's no specific person that needs to change the world, if the world needs to change it will seek help itself.
This whole series started me on a spiritual path I have never left. The experiences I and my partner have had and have are to some miraculous. Thank you for the whole set of videos. Good to relive key moment in one's life
RIP, David. I loved this show. The '70s was such a soul searching decade. Then the 80's came and the 90's and it only got worse. Nothing it seems was learned from that soulful filled decade of introspection. Kung Fu played its part and you'd be hard pressed to find a commercial television show with as much spirit and philosophy today. Instead, we get Friends and Seinfeld; the kind of garbage American pop culture has become.
Not garbage. Just different. I hear a lot of people say we're dying inside and that no one is interested in soul-searching, but I've met many, many others who are very much alive and interested in becoming their own lights, paths to enlightenment, much like the people in the '70s. I've never felt more faithful to humanity than in this time of great change and uncertainty. : )
Wish I could agree with you, zenstudent, but I don't. Actually, the only remotely spiritual thing the United States has done as a nation most recently is to elect Obama as president. And maybe that is a sign of better things to come. But as far as American pop culture, commercial tv in particular, Friends and Seignfeld were garbage comopared to Kung Fu.
there was heaps of garbage on tv during the 70s aswell, as was there in the 80s, the 90s and current day. Aswell as many good and deep shows. Just depends where and how you look at things. Culture changes and shifts and this whole internet/communication culture has just kickstarted some 10 years ago. Everything you knew is totally different for the kids today and they are still finding their footholds.
I know how you feel. It feels like America is in the crapper and that does make me sad and upset. I don't know if I can change the world, myself, or even one other person, but I can, and am, changing the way I look at the world through my practice and it does a little good for me. : ) Maybe someday I can be a light for others, too, but for now I'm happy with myself. I don't look too far outside myself, maybe that's why I'm so naive. Thanks for responding; it really made me think : )
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
America is in the crapper for three simple reasons. Only four little words is all that is needed to describe that reason. Liberals, homosexuals and illegals.
I disagree. I think Republicans have the ability to do as much damage as Liberals, homophobes do quite a bit of damage to homosexuals and bisexuals, and everyone in this country is an immigrant, even the Native Americans. We all came from Africa. This country as we know it was founded by immigrants, and I don't see any taking jobs I want. As long as the most qualified person gets the job, and is paid an equal wage as the next guy, that's OK. That's how our system is supposed to work.
Trust me, I already know that the native americans are immigrants, but u try telling them that.
But im not so convinced that we all came from Africa. Are u going to tell me that just one monkey colony in Africa decided one day to evolve into man all by themselves. Or maybe its that we only crawled out of the sea there but werent capable of crawling out of the sea anywhere else?
Or perhaps when aliens decided to colonized the planet they dropped a bunch of us smack dab in the middle of Uganda
No they might not be taking your job yet, but they will. There are only so many lawn mowing, potato picking, house cleaning and manure removal jobs to go around.
Infact they are already infiltrating most of the higher paying construction, roofing and maintenance positions, even though they are far less knowledgeable, experienced and educated. The reason why? Because they are modern day slaves willing to work for a lot less. They are allowing themselves to be cheated at the expense of Americans
Has more & more cross the border, they will have to look elsewhere for work as those so-called "jobs Americans dont want to work" are already filled. Slowly they will migrate to your job and they will get it because they will work for a lot less than what u will work for or a lot less than what u can afford to work for. The reason why they can afford it and u cant? Is because they are willing to shack up with 10 other co-workers and their expenses are only a fraction of what yours is each month.
And one other thing. You can kiss those management positions goodbye as well. After all, who else better to communicate between the head boss and the mexicans than a person who can speak both english and spanish? And btw, they prefer taking orders from another countrymen over you. The first chance they get to replace u with one of their own, they will stab u in the back. Their goal is to not only work, but to take over this country. They are laughing at people like u giving it away so easy.
Also I didnt say anything about immigrants. I said "illegals" - Do you know the difference?
There are between 12-15 million illegals in this country and more coming everyday.
They are taking hard working Americans jobs. NOT jobs that Americans dont want to work, but jobs that Americans HAVE been working for decades. But this decade more and more are being put of work in favour of lesser paid illegals.
You better get your head screwed on straight because you will be next.
illegals and Immigrants have always come hand in hand. In many cases there is no incentive to go through a process legally to become a citizen. If you are Mexican that process can take years. 5-8 in some cases. You say they are taking jobs Americans want. Like what? I have seen immigrants doing gardening, maids, physical labor jobs (litterally digging a ditch), and some labour intensive industry jobs. Those are the jobs Most Americans want? I dont think so. Make them citizens and reap the taxes.
Who do you think were doing these jobs before Mexicans migrated onto the scene? Little green men from mars? They were filled by the (now) unemployed Americans of this country.
For example, to show you how hard and how willing some Americans are to work these(so-called jobs only Mexicans are willing to work), I am in the horse racing industry, a job that requires you to work 7 days a week, 12 to15 hours a day, starting every morning at.....cont
cont...4-5am. There are no holidays off, there are no weekends off. There are no sick days, etc. You better either be in jail, the hospital or dead. That is the business. EVERYDAY!
Yet Americans have been getting up early every morning for the past 150 years working in this industry, that is, until recently. In the past decade or so, horse loving Americans have been pushed right out of the business in favour of the less knowledgeble, experienced and educated immigrants simply because...cont
cont...they will work for slave like wages. Wages that Ameicans can not afford to work for simply because their bills and cost of living is far greater than that of these illegals.
How is that you ask? Simple! Most Americans live with their family in a single household and probably only have one or two sources of income coming in to pay for all their expenses. Where as, these mexicans rent out houses and shack up with nine other co-workers, meaning its only costing them...cont
cont...10% of their total income. This is America, not Mexico or some other third world country. Americans should have to shack up with all their neighbors or a bunch of co-workers to get by and be able to out money back. How the hell do you think they are sending at least 75% of their pay-checks back to Mexico every week?
Anyway, to get back to what I was saying. Those track jobs that use to be worked by Americans are now filled with 95% Mexicans. Jobs Americans WERE working. Just turn....cont
cont...on your TV next time their is horse racing on and you will see that EVERY horse handler(groom) leading the horses around the paddock are Mexican. It doesnt matter at which track in America, it is all the same. This was a business that not long ago was filled by willing, horse loving Americas, who didnt mind getting up early and working 7 days a week, but they got kicked to the curb anyway.
I have witnessed countless friends, former co-workers and others pushed to the...cont
cont...side because it is cheaper to hire immigrants at the expense of the fact that they dont have the same compassion and respect for the animals.
The end result has been a huge decrease to overall care of these horses. Them working 'harder" is a myth. They dont work any harder than anyone else. Infact, they half-ass and parlay as much as possible. They dont care in the business or company they work for goes under, fails or closes down. They will just move on to the next job. They....cont
cont...have no pride in their work. Infact, I can tell from experience, many of them hate any non-mexican that they work with, including bosses, co-workers, etc. They pretend to like you but as soon as you walk out the door, they are talking shit about you. They hate us! But they want to keep the jobs for now. Their long term goals is to replace you and to completely "take back" America.
Here is an email that I recieved from an experienced hard wroking horsewoman one day after she read...cont
"I completely understand. I came down here a licensed NY state assistant racehorse trainer and I am a female. I cannot get a job. I am also a licensed equine vet tech. So even though I am way more qualified then any hispanic foreman or manager, I hear "well the mexicans won't listen to you". So I am currently jobless."
That was in the heart of horse country, Ocala, Fla. Yet she couldnt get a job and neither can most Americans in that industry anymore
Condolences and deepest sympathy to his loved ones: his wife, son, brothers, and all who cared about him. Very sad day for the world, and a great loss to us all.
Gosh, I am speechless! I will miss him so much, he was my hero growing up as a kid watching Kung Fu. He made you believe he was really this person, I loved him so much. Gosh, I will miss him so much.
First and foremost, welcome to the world of Kung Fu. We are glad you are posting. Sometimes we worry too much about what others see in us, without seeing ourselves truly, which is more important.
This show was my first exposure to martial arts as a teenager, loved it at the time, these days all I can think is what a shame that Bruce got screwed out of the part.

Google: Tao Te Ching
yinyangnature 1 year ago

TH3D1R3CTOR 1 year ago
@TheChiwhiz ...have no regrets for what was or what you were before. Each of our paths in the current life are shaped by Karma. What matters is you embrace your past, learn from it and also unlearn from it. That is how the Spirit evolves. Consider: You are far more than you know yourself to be...and hopefully....always a little less than you can be. Success in all you do.

@TruthAxe. Wilson then goes on to say: "Those who dont have the same reality tunnel as us don't seem ignorant; deliberately perverse; lying or hypnotised by some mad ideology. They just have a different reality tunnel and every reality tunnel might tell us something interesting about our world.... if we are willing to listen." This is the only way to both peace and Truth my friend.
yinyangnature 1 year ago

Therefore it's a kind of 'best of' version of this pivotal Taoist book.
yinyangnature 1 year ago
@yinyangnature Funny. I've been reading the John Wu translation with, what I think is, pre-reformation Chinese (I guess it'd be Kanji in Japan). I like the translation because though the English is deeply flawed you can go to something closer to the original script with a Chinese dictionary. So you can get what an English speaker would understand and what a Chinese speaker would understand in the same book. A slow and difficult read this way, but quite rewarding.
Thanks for the upload. Cheers

@87cyberman. After a lot of searching around, I discovered the version I used is the "thebigview" website, translated by Tolbert McCarroll. I hope this helps you my friend. I've updated my commentary to reflect this information.

It might explain a great many riddles to oneself.
cutis1000 2 years ago 2
cutis1000, disregarding how others see you doesn't mean you can't listen to what other say about you. It just means whatever you do you do it for your inner self, not your egotistic self. The ego likes to show off cause of insecurity and fear. When you are secured, you don't need to show off, others will just see it and respect you.

There have certainly been successful humble businessman(Carnegie, Branson ect) and also egotistic successful businessmen. Is a feeling of peace possible? It's human nature to always want more. We can't change that anymore than a Leopard can change its spots.

One should always pursue the Middle Way in all things. There is a time and place for all things.
yinyangnature 2 years ago
To "yinyangnature" (About pursuing the middleway.)
This has also been a philosophy ive lived by, and have told about to others.
Some of the "answers" ive been giving, regarding this philosophy, is this:
One can not fully understand the middleway, before he has traveled the "upper and lower" way.
(1 out of 2)
skytte71 2 years ago
I once saw an argument between two people. I could see reason/truth in both their arguments. But they didnt "meet at the middle", nor did they give credit to the other.
Some believe this to be a necessity to get anywhere, and that if we all walked the middleway. Then we wouldnt get anywhere...
But in reality, my opinion was, that those two people actually didnt get anywhere.
What do you (or anybody else) have to say about this?
Cheers and thanks for upload :-)
(2 out of 2)
skytte71 2 years ago
Unfortunately, arguments are more about the ego asserting itself rather than what is actually true or correct.
Truth is always dependant on ones perceptions, so there are in fact many truths.
The Middle Way is simply moving beyond the ego and averaging all the possibilities.
This is much like a quantum physicist accepting she can only calculate possibilities but never certainties.
My website may offer you more information on this. There's a link on my Youtube channel.
yinyangnature 2 years ago
Yes "of course", i see that know. If they where to let go of their ego, they would clearly see/accept the other persons truth.
Yep, if 10 peoples saw the same "incident", they would tell 10 different stories. "Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder".
Interesting comparison :-)
Thanks
skytte71 2 years ago
@yinyangnature - I had used the word 'ego' for some time and now I rather see it as what I identify with. It's the act of identification, it's the act upon which scale I mesure my value. Through which I look at myself. It's just an act of judgment and identification. A belief about myself - my ego is where is my belief about who I am - and my mesure of my value. It thrives on comparision and relationships to things, situations, people - upon which I define myself.
lalijan21 2 years ago 2
An ego is perfectly fine if it is kept well under control. Yet in our highly materialistic culture egos often become hyper-inflated, resulting in exploitation.
As the Dalai Lama once said,People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of inner peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultivation of altruism, of love and compassion and elimination of ignorance, selfishness and greed.
yinyangnature 2 years ago
The word 'ego' is Latin and means 'I'. That's all it means.
In 1910, psychobabblers began to push the idea that ego should be taken as a pejorative.
As far back as 1891, men used the word to mean conceited -- filled with an exaggerated belief of self-importance.
Often, academic words creep into daily speak being spoken by those trying to sound smart.
You can be sure that anyone who talks about 'ego' as an existing thing knows nothing of the mind or the way of man (human nature).
TruthAxe 1 year ago
Ego certainly does appear to exist at the conscious level that we feel we live. But we only feel we exist at this level because this is the only level in which we have sensory inputs. For we don't have sight and sound at the cellular or atomic level.
But where is our ego at the fundamental level in which our reality is actually comprised? Ego is simply a illusion of our sensory inputs, since it has no reality at all in the boundariless quantum level, that all things arise.
yinyangnature 1 year ago
@TruthAxe wow man, that really resonates. and when we really know human nature, and have openness instead of perception, that which is called ego is naturally re-aligned. changes become apparent, only as we have returned to our original unconditioned nature.
flowersonhorseback 1 year ago
@flowersonhorseback You have it. That's the way, returning to our unconditioned nature.

@skytte71
TurquoiseLamp 2 years ago
The Buddha had to experience the extremes, but it was only when he connected with his intuitive wisdom (through meditation) that he was able to understand the middle way.
So the middle way is both the path and the goal.
I really don't pretend to know much on this though.
Bobba (yinyangnature) nails it in much more concise and wise words.
Wonderful thoughts! It's brilliant that Bobba has given us all these wonderful videos and commentries to stimulate the growth of wisdom. Thank you!!!

MojaveViper 2 years ago
If I may be so forward as to offer some unbidden advice, as you do what you love because you love it, how could anything but positive results come from you sharing it with others? Keeping your talent to yourself might be very humble, but would that not also be selfish on your part? I believe you would be causing inner conflict only if you ended up doing something that you did *not* truly love but you did it only to impress others and gain, as you say, their respect and acceptance.

Instead, we get Friends and Seinfeld; the kind of garbage American pop culture has become.
cutis1000 2 years ago 2
Not garbage. Just different. I hear a lot of people say we're dying inside and that no one is interested in soul-searching, but I've met many, many others who are very much alive and interested in becoming their own lights, paths to enlightenment, much like the people in the '70s. I've never felt more faithful to humanity than in this time of great change and uncertainty. : )
Zenstudent105 2 years ago
Wish I could agree with you, zenstudent, but I don't. Actually, the only remotely spiritual thing the United States has done as a nation most recently is to elect Obama as president. And maybe that is a sign of better things to come. But as far as American pop culture, commercial tv in particular, Friends and Seignfeld were garbage comopared to Kung Fu.
cutis1000 2 years ago 2
there was heaps of garbage on tv during the 70s aswell, as was there in the 80s, the 90s and current day.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
America is in the crapper for three simple reasons. Only four little words is all that is needed to describe that reason. Liberals, homosexuals and illegals.
dahoss65 2 years ago
Zenstudent105 2 years ago
Trust me, I already know that the native americans are immigrants, but u try telling them that.
But im not so convinced that we all came from Africa. Are u going to tell me that just one monkey colony in Africa decided one day to evolve into man all by themselves. Or maybe its that we only crawled out of the sea there but werent capable of crawling out of the sea anywhere else?
Or perhaps when aliens decided to colonized the planet they dropped a bunch of us smack dab in the middle of Uganda
dahoss65 2 years ago
No they might not be taking your job yet, but they will. There are only so many lawn mowing, potato picking, house cleaning and manure removal jobs to go around.
Infact they are already infiltrating most of the higher paying construction, roofing and maintenance positions, even though they are far less knowledgeable, experienced and educated. The reason why? Because they are modern day slaves willing to work for a lot less. They are allowing themselves to be cheated at the expense of Americans
dahoss65 2 years ago
Has more & more cross the border, they will have to look elsewhere for work as those so-called "jobs Americans dont want to work" are already filled. Slowly they will migrate to your job and they will get it because they will work for a lot less than what u will work for or a lot less than what u can afford to work for. The reason why they can afford it and u cant? Is because they are willing to shack up with 10 other co-workers and their expenses are only a fraction of what yours is each month.
dahoss65 2 years ago
And one other thing. You can kiss those management positions goodbye as well. After all, who else better to communicate between the head boss and the mexicans than a person who can speak both english and spanish? And btw, they prefer taking orders from another countrymen over you. The first chance they get to replace u with one of their own, they will stab u in the back. Their goal is to not only work, but to take over this country. They are laughing at people like u giving it away so easy.
dahoss65 2 years ago
Also I didnt say anything about immigrants. I said "illegals" - Do you know the difference?
There are between 12-15 million illegals in this country and more coming everyday.
They are taking hard working Americans jobs. NOT jobs that Americans dont want to work, but jobs that Americans HAVE been working for decades. But this decade more and more are being put of work in favour of lesser paid illegals.
You better get your head screwed on straight because you will be next.
dahoss65 2 years ago
illegals and Immigrants have always come hand in hand.
