personally i played about 6 months penhold.. just to try something new.. i found it fascinating especially in serve.. but my power is my backhand.. so shakehand play makes it a lot easier to attack and defend using your backhand side.. what rubbers do you use? i use sriver forehand and bryce speed backhand
Actually my backhand loop improved after I switched to penhold. It's les powerful now but a lot more stable. I agree with you that defence is more difficult with RPB but counterattacking is easier. ;) Regarding the rubbers: I use DHS Hurricane3 2.2mm on my FH side and BryceFX 2.1mm on my BH side (however when shooting this video I was using Yasaka Mark5 30 2mm)
oh you reminded me of the yasaka days hehehe i used to always play yasaka mark v i just changed to sriver fx actually for fun to give it a try it's very effective as well but i use the same blade as ever. samsonov double carbon. tibhar ofcourse. everyone on my team plays sardius i personally enjoy the grip of tibhar and well i beat them all LOL take care! hopefully we'll play a set someday you're a good player :)
Well maybe i would pick it up with practise, but i find penhold forehand difficult in that i tend to push the ball into the net and seem to create more sidespin than i want. But to be honest i haven't made a big attempt to learn this hold, so thats one problem, but its something i would like to learn at some point, its an interesting style. Holding the bat the conventional way(as i know it) im an attacking topspin player and more defensive on my backhand. Currently learning to forehand loop.
i;ll tell you what i find hard (I posted this in a forum you posed this vid on)
the stroke iself doest work for me i ry a RPB and it goes ot the right, all he time off to the right and never goes where i want it. Is there liek some right way to performing this loop shot? if so, explain lol
Post your video. My guess is that you hold the racket differently. Try to hold it in such a way that the blade is more or less parallel to the forearm.
Kind of looks like Ma Lin's RPB, but you need to stop lifting that foot lol.

good RPB .. just dont lift your left leg while doing it. Go up .. but never loose the floor.. and try to give it more top spin ..
RPB was not created to block only to smash as a counter attack ..

I don't get how to do penhold reverse backhand. When I do that ball goes down to the net.
