This is the weirdest place on earth!!! I cycled through as part of my cross country trip. When we approached the hill,, i found myself cycling in reverse and couldn`t get to the other side. My compass went completely wacky as well. The only way i could maket down this road was to pedal the bike backwards and listen to audio direction from my companion on the other side. He fell off his bike twice, and had to walk backwards in a circle to get there. Very strange place!

Basically its an optical illusion. In other words, because there is no clear horizon (trees are blocking the front horizon in the distance) in front of the car, an illusion appears that the road is going uphill, whereas in fact its going downhill.

For anyone who's curious, yeu're not *REALLY* going uphill... it's actually a downhill slope. The ground's not even and the trees are all slanted so it LOOKS like it's going uphill. Try walking 'down' it, and yeu see whot I mean.
