I have one! :) they are great pets and very smart too, but they are hyper and they can be a little stubborn, so they need to be trained in order for you to enjoy them as a pet.

they are easy to train, because they are so smart! but remember these are watch dogs and usually bark at almost everything, my dog barks in the middle of the night sometimes. :I

I have a miniature eskimo, and from experience I would have to say that it takes a lot of patience to care for these dogs. They learn tricks really easy, but tend to have an attitude problem at times. We've had a few behavioral problems with ours and others that I've talked to say it's how the breed is. GREAT loyal companion dog though, but wouldn't recommend for 1st time dog owners.

we took her to the doctor after a while only to figure ou she had brain damage. a month after she started getting seizures over and over. you have no idea how many time i had to clean her cage. after a year had passed, she passed away. what was amazing was that the day before, i found her sitting in the backyard looking at a sunset horizon...i miss her a lot. but if your a lazy type, i dont recommend this dog. if your very responsible then go ahead and get it. :3

i owned a fancy trained american eskimo for 6 years. She gave birth to multiple puppies and won many dog showsbefore i bought her. For the first few years, she was great. she was always smart and well trained. then she began to make messes inside the house..so my dad moved her to our bathroom that we never use. then she kept making messes there...so my dad moved her to garage...it also became very hard to groom her very long pelt. She also started to become stubborn and forgot some of her tricks

you dont need to be "tough" on the dog as a puppy. you need to give it guidance, but the proper amount of exercise will keep any dog in line.

Oh yeah i have one of these, the bread is very hyper, if you are going to get one of these you HAVE to get it at a very young age and be tough of on it (i mean training not just being a jerk to it.)

Same here!! I have wanted a dog forever to- but my dad and brother are allergic, and even when I find a hypo-allergenic breed my mother says I still can't get it... Although I never thought about asking one for Christmas.... Granted, I never really ask for anything for Christmas, but they don't give me a chance anyways, so I doubt that would work...... But once I get enough money- I've devised a plan to get one. (I wrote it out, but it didn't fit in the comment box...) Hehe.

american eskimos are apparantly hypo-allergenic. but if u want, get a bichon frise. i have one. get a female, cuz boys will piss on everything if not neutered. also, very friendly and hyperactive. I have one and will put a video of her up soon.
