Hahah Rodion...I love him. The book is very interesting even nowadays. I've always thought-How can a killer impress me so much? I havent got an answer yet.
You made me smile :) Such impressions make just writers like Dostoevsky if any ; by the way, this book is a book for all times because if there is time, there are people and they will never give up to live like these...
@Schwanheld Key Facts: The book is about the moral issues Raskolnikov AND the Russian society are dealing with (were.. back then). Always remember to read the book on a different level. Don't stick just to words. Be open to metaphors and allusions to man's soul, political and ideological positions, the changes in moral values that were brought up after the industrial revolutions that led up to capitalism, etc.
"he was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average height, slim, well-built, with beautiful dark eyes and dark brown hair. Im not gay and dont judge dudes but cmon.
@whitesuit123 hahahah! I know how Dostoevsky described him, but I thought maybe you could suggest some actor as the best example to play Raskolnikov's character. Honestly, for me there is none, and Raskolnikov stays just as he is in my mind, as I created his look reading the book...Sorry...Never mind...That was stupid question :)
According to Dostoevsky,Raskolnikov "was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average in height, slim, well-built, with beautiful dark eyes and dark brown hair..."Ehh?
I am actually russian. I've read this novel two years ago, I love british accent, and I apsolutely adored John Simm I HAVE to see this movie!!!)))))))))))))))
Anyone knows where this movie can be downloaded? I've read this novel and it impressed me in a way i couldn't imagine and i want to see if the movie have atleast a bit of the ,,aura" that Dostoevski gave to this novel.
@theinquisitivedonkey You are wrong, donkey. Menahem Golan did a crap! Biggest crap ever! Take a look at the scene of crime. Nothing like that happened in the book! Every smart one who read the book will agree with me. One more thing: a Phillips box in 19th century, and in Russia?! You must be kidding me! I hate Menahem Golan and Dick Wolf!
I'm on chapter six and loving it. I feel I have understood the many philisophical and idealogical metaphores and what not without having to read it in Russian, though I wish I spoke Russian, I wana go to st petersberg and drink Vodka!
This is so unnatural....the tone of their language...everything...This is not the crime and punishment i have read or expected to see...its much better performed by russians, read in russian and understood in russian way. Then it will all make sense.....
@aibek amen........this is nothing like what I had in mind. After reading the book you form a perception of how the characters would look like and behave and you expect to see iton film. However, like most books made into movies, the result is very diff and the movie is nothing compared to the book in terms of richness of detail. I guess nothing is a substitute for an individual mind. Most movies ruin the experience for book readers since they would have formed a completely diff mental picture.
@aibek You are so right! It is the best in Russian way! Russian language, actors, places (in this case St.Petersburg),etc. I also do not like when strangers (Brits,Americans, or others) act Russian things, or anyone else's things. One Brit cannot play some Russian character, because he does not know Russian history, or life standards and happenings in those times, precisely 19th century, and cannot understand Russian spirit, because he does not have it. I am not Russian, but still am Slav :)
Simply by watching this clip I can see that this is a bastardized version of the book. I can see through nonsense very quickly. For example, in addition to this, I saw through that idiotic movie Little Miss Sunshine within the first two minutes. One must cultivate his diagnostic eye like this.
Is there anyway that I could have this file emailed to me. I want to embed it in a powerpoint presentation that I am showing to my class. I think it would act as a nice hook. I have already followed the "how to embed in powerpoint" video and it is not working.
This adaptation is one of the better ones I have seen although IMO they left out some nice aspects that provided nice closure for some of the characters such as:
*SPOILERS*
Luzhin's exposure through his framing of Sonya.
Svidrigailov's dream before his suicide.
The death of Pulkheria Alexandrovna.
Razumikhin's marriage to Dunya.
*END SPOILERS*
As with all movie adaptations, I wouldn't recommended it INSTEAD of the novel, but if you are a fan of the book, then this film is a nice watch!
I like the Rusian version, posted here on youtube, way better, that one really had the scenarios and characteristics on the characters planted by Dostoyevski.
ditto. The Russian versoin is the best. Raskolnikov is perfect in it. I have the movie..i got it on dvd..maybe if i figure out how to post on youtube..i will add more clips. ^^ But this one is good. I like how they talk about the extraordinary man..pretty dramatic.
For some reason the BBC released it in Holland (in English with subtitles). Try ebay or Amazon. I'd been looking for this DVD for years. It's the moodiest, most atmospheric drama there is, helped I think by John Simm being hunted down by the Emperor from Star Wars
The book is a marterpiece. I'll watch the movie anyways.
