Regardless of whether or not she was high... The 1983 version was technically better a million times over, but... I just prefer this one. I really feel her emotion coming through, she put her heart and soul into this - Really, every singer or every genre(be it Pop, R&B, Rock, and so on,) should look to this woman for inspiration. Not only could she hit the notes, but there was just so much depth and intensity when she hit the stage. Incomparable.

But she did it for South Africa and for her fans. That's the REAL reason her voice is a work in progress now....she gave her all back then and pushed way too much. After South Africa, her voice just started to decline, although it improved in the latter part of her 1999 tour.

Actually, the Bodyguard tour was the perfect cross between 80's perfection and 90s soulfulness for Whitney. :)

Please, please do your research. Whitney could NEVER speak so fluidly when she was high. She was jittery when high. She couldn't focus. She talked crazy. Whitney has always been proud of her heritage and this was her first ever visit & concert to South Africa. She is singing 'Home' to the people she considers her brothers & sisters, in a place that she came from!

@Chasenip funny but actually I think whitney lost the major part of her voice cuz of drugs use around 2005, cuz in 2004 she like still got it.
Mariah lost her voice way sooner but i think mariah is a very different voice type than whitney.
Both however have sung too much to keep their voices intact, Whitney got nodules after the TBodyguard Tour, Mariah's got worst after 1996

there never will be such a great performer. people say leona lewis is the new whitney. just look at her perform i have nothing live. i mean leona can sing, but whitney is heaven compared to leona lewis' voice. of course her voice changed but shes still got it going on, so much charisma.

Thank you. Folks just making the dumbmest statements. I never believe any Whitney's performance were ever effected by using drugs, maybe her voice, but her attitude? Please, whitney been a diva since she was 19, watch her very first live performance, she was full of charisma, atitude, and a born diva then. So i start ignoring folks man when they talking bout some they never took time to follow. Be a fan first then criticize, otherwise u just see 1 or 2 performances and u think u know the artist.

I'm a teacher, and once before class I washed my hands with some hand sanitizer, and then without thinking I rubbed my lips ... I must've thought I was putting on lip balm.
I immediately felt woozy and high, and i had to teach a bunch of kids! I started going on weird tangents, laughing at odd things.
Then I sang this song! Just like Whitney, with my hands over my head, fluttering my fingers and batting my eyelashes.
I'm unemployed now, but I have an interview lined up with Oprah. I love her.

Please, please do your research. Whitney could NEVER speak so fluidly when she was high. She was jittery when high. She couldn't focus. She talked crazy. And she definitely couldn't focus while singing. She just happened to knock over the mic stand and she got embarrassed. Talk to any performer, and they will be able to tell you a similar story...

This concert was the first of its kind back then and was a free concert celebrating the newly found freedom of Africa.
Whitney has always been proud of her heritage and this was her first ever visit & concert to South Africa. She is singing 'Home' to the people she considers her brothers & sisters, in a place that she came from!
I'm not one of those Whitney lovers who is in denial about her drug use. But no way is she on drugs here.

Her drug period didnt start till late 90's - 97/98 period. She became jittery onstage, tv shows, talk shows, clapping alot, and giggling all the time. Check the david lettermen appearance in 1999. Even she sang the SSB fir the first WNBA match, she was high. She almost knock one of the kids down as she was leaving the court. lol.

The song belongs to Stephanie and no one can sing that song year after year with such raw emotion, grit, and soul. Like Michael Bolton, Whitney Houston can't sing 'everything'. Exactly. Some people revel in tearing others down. Miss Whitney doesn't seem drunk to me; she seems very emotional to be in Africa plus the crowd was so hype, which probably affected her as well. Either way, people should just appreciate her voice because it is phenomenal!! Her voice is smooth, soothing, pure and angelic yet also so strong. I've loved her music for as long as I can remember. She's an icon.
