American's planes are old. Some MD82s were delivered in 1984, Some 757s in 1989. How much pressure can the fuselage withstand? Remember that ancient 737 in Hawaii? I recently flew an American 757-200 and it was old and tired inside with bulky video screens. And the 82s are sucking fuel and limiting profits, driving up ticket prices.
@bagrat22 Well the MD80's are slowly being retired but the 757's and 767's won't be retired for some time. I know the 767 will be replaced by the 787 and the 757 might also be replaced by the 787. So yeah we'll see what happens.
@yoyoyoyoshua The 757's will probably start being retired at a quicker pace once AA starts taking delivery of the massive Airbus and Boeing order placed a few months ago.
im so glad they will discoutine the 757s they have to much power and plus they are small and not confortable narrow seating and why so some aircrafts stop at the front door and some stop and they second door the one after first class
There not discontinuing there B757's!! It's the most operated aircraft in there fleet!! To much power and small? An airplane travels at around 600 MPH, is that to fast for you? The B757 is a very large aircraft and is not small at all! Try taking a 3hr flight on a CRJ-700! Thats's SMALL plane!
Eventually they will be discontinued. With the newer planes being introduced into the fleet in the coming years, the old gas hog 757 will be weeded out. It's just not fuel efficient enough for companies to use. You will start seeing changes within the next 5 years im willing to bet. The 757 is too small of a plane for the amount of gas it uses and HP it produces. It's way overpowered. If the plane doesn't have a good passenger to fuel consumption ratio then the companies wont want to use it.
@SAB14N Then explain why they are paying MILLIONS of dollars to install new First & Economy class seats AND fit the plane with blended winglets? As I said b4, it is the most operated aircraft in there fleet. . If they have delt with this plane for all these years I think they can handle a few more with it. The B757 was and is a great aircraft and the plus side about it is that it can be used for international and domestic flights. . . They will not be discontinuing the B757 any time soon. . .
Yeah sure it may be the most operational plane in the fleet, but that wont matter in whatever amount of years when its time to replace it. They are upgrading them because out of all companies they have the oldest 757 interiors. Just because they are upgrading some, not even all of their planes, doesn't mean they are going to keep them around forever. All the company cares about is making money, and like I said, once they get the chance the purchase newer planes, the 757 will be the first to go.
@SAB14N hahahah what I find funny is that you don't work for AA so you don't even know what they are going to do with the B757's so STOP saying all of this when you really don't even know what they are going to do with them!
@TheLiLD95 Um, okay. It doesn't take a genius to know why or when a company would get rid of the 757. It's pretty obvious. BTW, my dads been working for them for 35 years so I heard this from a pretty legit source.
@TheLiLD95 I honestly don't care wether or not you believe me. How am I supposed to know what they will be replacing them with. This isn't happening for however many years. I doubt even people working for AMR know what they will replace them with. They wouldn't publicly announce what they will be replacing them with till a number of just months before this actually happens.
@yoyoyoyoshua Well the B757 will be replaced over time but most likely with the B737 & B767. The AA B757's cover to much domestic service and the B787 is made more for international service.
@delta757and767pilot American are still buying new 737s to replace the MD-82s, and MD-83s, the 737 will probably still be flying for at least another 20 years
haha good thing the weather was a lot better in San Diego!

@yoyoyoyoshua Yup, they had a bunch of 737-800s delivered in 2010. But they have to retire the dinosaurs
