2:37 " Yes, with Gotham we tried a new one: economics. But we underestimated certain of Gotham's citizens, such as your parents...Gunned down by one of the every people they were trying to help. Create enough hunger and everyone becomes a criminal. Their deaths galvanized the city into saving itself and Gotham has limped on ever since. We are back to finish the job, and this time no misguided idealist will get in the way. Like your parents you lack the will to do what is necessary."
I am a hugh Batman fan and when this movie came out i cringed. I remembered the 80's ones which were a crime and should be deleted from existance. It wasnt advertised well so i saw it when the movie i went to see was sold out. What a truely AWESOME movie. This is the Batman i read about, this is the real true Batman!! Bob Kane would be proud. i rate it 6 out of 5 stars!!!!
The idea of Ras being immortal gives to the story like ninja legends. He never dies cause its the idea of him that survives not the person.Ken Watanabe plays the first one in the film and a piece of flaming timber comes down and takes him out. Then ducard becomes Ras as ghul because he is the next top student.Batman will have someone take his mantle when he gets ancient and so on so forth.true mortality is defeated when your art is forever passed on.
@DemonofdaDesert Ducard didnt become Ras, Ken Watanabe was a man posing as Ras to conceal the real Ras' true identity (Liam Neeson). Ducrad was a fake name.
2:42 onwards, definately one of, if not the best bit of music in Batman Begins. Absolutely tingling and it fits perfectly when Ducard is talking to Bruce about the League of Shadows. Amazing piece of work. The music sounds like it's playing his destiny right out. The fear, the power, the darkness. It's just great.
@ThePorticus I completely agree with you. The Dark Knight was a great movie, I just wish they focused more on Bruce Wayne and Batman in The Dark Knight. He seemed more human and more, I don't know like you could relate with the character but in TDK it didn't seem so, too many plots and too many characters to develop and focus on.
Ra's Al Gul in this film is about the closet your gonna get to the character in film without seeming hokey. Plus he was perfectly cast, Liam Neeson is amazing
3:15-3:45 DUCARD : ' A vigilante is just a man lost in scramble for his own gratification. He can be destroyed or locked up. But if you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal and if they can't stop you, then you become something else entirely.
It's because the movie was made to be realistic, and there is no such thing as immortality in the real world. Much better done than the comic if you ask me.
@TheHighKingFingolfin I was just thinking about this, I think they give a nod to the comics by having him reply(when hes at wayne maner) to bruce's comment about ras al gul being dead by saying "or is he immortal?"
"When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable. Tomorrow the world will watch in horror as its greatest city tears itself apart through fear. The movement back to harmony will be unstoppable this time..."
"...We are back to finish the job. And this time no misguided idealists will get in the way. Like your father, you lack the courage to do all that is necessary. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart"
2:33 to 4:19 is the theme of Ras Al Ghul, Keep an eye out for this motif again in The Dark Knight Rises!

True. I found it somewhat odd that no direct mention was made of Ras' Al Gul's immortality in the film itself.
