One super healthy vegan here. Your comments are not accurate. Humans are physiologically & psychologically herbivores. Many modern humans are omnivores by CHOICE. We aren't capable of killing or eating meat, nor are our bodies capable of processing it - that's why we get cancer, heart disease, diabetes and high cholesterol. They can have their insulin, and if you feel so strongly about it go and volunteer, but the animals... they dont want to volunteer, and plenty of them suffer or die annualy because of testing. Your a living being, animals are living beings, there is no difference between you and an animal. By that logic, people should also be taken agains their will and tested on but that wont happen so it shouldnt happen to animals.

Biologically some of them may be similar(that's what makes animal testing viable), but the vast majority of animals will never be able to contribute anything to society or the survival of my species. Besides, I(like every single other animal on the planet) am evolutionarily wired to care more about my own species than any other. If pigs were the dominant species do you think they would hesitate to test on humans? No, they wouldn't.
Ah, but all animals work from the same evolutionary survival instincts. So I can, with fair certainty, say that pigs(or any other animal) would test on humans were our situations reversed. You may feel the need to apologize for the evolutionary instincts that have made us the dominant species on the planet, but not me. Any other species given the same circumstances we were would have acted in the same way.
That isnt a solid theory though, its just speculation.
And our "instincts" dont have anything to do with this, i mean im not one of those people who thinks its WRONG to eat meat, its survival instinct, we ARE omnivores, but taking animals, cutting them up, sticking needles in them doesnt qualify as a survival instinct.

And what would you have us do instead of medical testing on animals? Test on prisoners? That's one of the no-no's that the Nazis committed. Test on volunteers? And Im not gonna pretend to be an expert on this subject, but i know for a fact that we have developed lots of diferent new technologies to be used on medical research, we also have stem cell research for example..
And every single advance, every single new technique, every single new piece of technology must be thoroughly tested before it can be approved for human use. To insure safety we must test on living things, that means animals. It may be distasteful but it's necessary.
That's the thing, there is no viable alternative to animal testing. None what so ever. Even if we could quick grow human clones they would still be humans(and thus afforded all the same rights as any other human). Sorry to break this to you, but animal testing is a necessity.

But not fighting for survival at any cost isn't natural, and that is a drive that is common to every single organism on this planet. Evolution won't allow a species with no drive for life to survive. Medical science(like every other invention and science) is merely one of our survival mechanisms.
You know, imo we still HAVE that survival instinct, but we have evolved beyond the ability to use it. Thats what I think.
And you probably disagree, but just look around, look at what the human race has become. Our survival instinct has become a couch, a TV, and a bag of chips basically.

I really think vegetarianism is the way to go against animal cruelty. What I found interesting was Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, in his video, The Joy of Liberating Animals on Youtube, advised his students to turn vegetarian to create the causes to build an animal sanctuary or shelter. This is to show their commitment to care for animals instead of just saying they care. We dont really care for animals if we keep eating them every meal!

We aren't capable of killing or eating meat, nor are our bodies capable of processing it - that's why we get cancer, heart disease, diabetes and high cholesterol. Notice that studies never cite health risks in eating too many veggies, fruits or grains, etc. It's because they don't give us cancer, etc - ANIMAL PROTEIN does!

Wrong, we are omnivores, which means that we evolved to handle both meats and vegetables. The leap to being omnivores was one of the greatest leaps our species ever took and was one of the things that allowed us to prosper to the point of becoming the dominant species on the planet.
Also, there is no hard scientific evidence that suggests a direct link between eating animal protein and any of the illnesses you mentioned.

The human digestive tract is designed to handle plants and animals. If we were to eat plants only, we would have larger teeth that were flatter with more enamel, and more than one stomach. Once our digestive tracts look like cows, I'll become a vegetarian, but until then, I'm an omnivore.

They can have their insulin, and if you feel so strongly about it go and volunteer, but the animals... they dont want to volunteer, and plenty of them suffer or die annualy because of testing. Your a living being, animals are living beings, there is no difference between you and an animal. By that logic, people should also be taken agains their will and tested on but that wont happen so it shouldnt happen to animals.

Biologically some of them may be similar(that's what makes animal testing viable), but the vast majority of animals will never be able to contribute anything to society or the survival of my species. Besides, I(like every single other animal on the planet) am evolutionarily wired to care more about my own species than any other. If pigs were the dominant species do you think they would hesitate to test on humans? No, they wouldn't.

Ah, but all animals work from the same evolutionary survival instincts. So I can, with fair certainty, say that pigs(or any other animal) would test on humans were our situations reversed. You may feel the need to apologize for the evolutionary instincts that have made us the dominant species on the planet, but not me. Any other species given the same circumstances we were would have acted in the same way.

And what would you have us do instead of medical testing on animals? Test on prisoners? That's one of the no-no's that the Nazis committed. Test on volunteers? I understand why they test cosmetics on animals(many of them do contain potentially harmful chemicals), but on the whole I agree with you on that. Cosmetics are completely frivolous and unnecessary. Although in the past there have been times when medical breakthroughs occurred because of cosmetic testing. These are rare occurrences though.

It is true that animal testing is usually flawed, but it allows us to make sure that whatever drugs we are testing are safe BEFORE we move to human trials. Keep in mind that ALL drugs go through human trials. Also, I did say that there are no VIABLE alternatives.
