There is a movie that is begging to be written, and an opening sequence that has this version (all 4 minutes). Imagination and creativity are reborn when you hear her voice.
Lizz came up with one of the very best version I've heard with this song. Love her voice and style and this song's arrangement sounded much better in her CD album than here. Alice Lui
This song was actually recorded first by a guy named Lenny Welch maybe in '60 or '61, he had the big hit "Since I Fell For You," then the Beatles in later by Babs (Streisand)
Lizz is soulful, sultry, imaginative, bluesy, intelligent, and sings from her very soul! I've enjoyed her music for quite a while! She's beautiful and brilliant! 10*
ELEGANT. RUSTIC. UNIQUELY BEAUTIFUL. I completely agree with both comments by twangbarfly and also those by BeJayusAndBeGorr and deluxe 1960. The end and the acknowledgement (that wondrous smile) are priceless.
I love this woman's voice. She has such subtlety, and though there seems to be a bit of contention over which version is best, I have to say I favour this one wildly. It's so much more pleasing to listen to that the Beatles and more interesting than the Streisand. It is just the height of pleasure listening to her sing.
@firstdeserter I agree, she has an amazing voice and this is a beautiful version. The only one I like better is Sarah Vaughan's, but I think it's great if several different interpretations of a song exist.
sorry to say but the essence of the song was quite different. she made a completely other song of it. well i do not like this version,... sorry .. my opinion
I do not like I prefer the version of Paul McCartney, sings well, but please please version of me is feeling, this lack of feeling sad, it's a nice adaptation, but it takes away the essence of the piece
@Eowyncita Sorry to say this, but you don't know what you're talking about. If you detect no feeling in this then I can only think you must be talking on the phone or doing the ironing while you are listening. You are confusing lack of histrionics and misplaced warbling with lack of feeling. This is controlled beauty, a song sung with taste and refinement by someone who modestly attaches more importance to the words and the music than to her own ego, which is sadly a rare thing these days.
Lizz Wright has this uncanny talent of taking a song that's been sung upways, downways, sideways and still make it sound soo fresh like it was written for her or that she wrote it herself and find a new direction to take that song to. Well, frankly I think any old song is lucky to be sung by Lizz.
"any old song is lucky to be sung by Lizz" now that is brilliant! I could not agree more. Perfect ptich, perfect phrasing, perfect dynamics, perfect delivery and completely gorgeous!

kudos to two true artists. they make the song their own and don't try to sound like another Tuck & Patti clone .... great swampy, bluesy feel !
