The more I watch this program and look past the obvious mistakes, I am really quite amazed at the technical difficulty. Sure, it's a cliche' choice of music, but if he gets comfortable with it like last year, and he can clean up the jumps it will be amazing. I know he's fighting an injury right now, but I wish him all the luck.
Chan looks great as usual, but is anyone else a just a bit disappointed that he went with such a cliche' music choice as Phantom of the Opera? he has the ability to skate beautifully to Rachmaninoff and other complex classical pieces, so this really feels kind of beneath him.
Good quad attempt though, with a mite more speed and height it'll be clean
well if he skates like this he's going to be beaten by everyone... evgeny just started the season after a 3 year hiatus..chan's been competing and he skates like this....
Well one thing is for sure. If he can ever manage to skate this program cleanly (assuming there'll be a quad and 2 triple axels), he just can't be beaten by anyone out there. It seems he's even taken the footwork up a notch if that's possible.
I hate it when people always expect perfection and perfection comes with practice this program is a couple of weeks old. Get a grip, it will all come together, you'll see!
quad is a little risky unless it gets more consistant , you can definatly tell its not peak skating season time lol, im sure he will get better, good luck in vancouver!
People have to remember that the program was only 3 wks old due to the fact that Patrick being 2009 World Mens Silver Medallist was on tour & did shows. + he's getting use to the quad toe loop. The quad is a very very new jump for Patrick. Sit back and watch Patrick fix things one competition at a time. Besides, it's at the Olympics and Worlds that it really matters where he places and how he skates. The other comps are just practice.
Thanks so much for posting this! I always think it's rude when rinks don't remove the glass for skating competitions and we have to look at the stupid sign for pucks that looks like something else. It's too bad Patrick had such a rough start to the season, but I'm sure he just had a bad day and will do well this season. "Lucky" Patrick has all these amateurs criticizing him...probably people who have never even figure skated themselves. Anyway, I think this program is promising.
Lots of mistakes, even for the beginning of the season. I have yet to see him connect to the music - it's such a bold choice that I think his intensity needs to match the dynamic changes. But it's a work in progress and I can see it gracing an Olympic stage. The ending needs more punch, though - a bit of music editing needs to be done there for the audience to really cheer.
I quite enjoy for his new program. At the time being, nobody know yet that this change is for better or for worse. I wish him the best for winter Olympic 2010. If he is fortunately enough, he can fine tune his long program with Sarah Kawahara, former student of Osborne Colson. Lori Nichol and Sara will definitely come up with an impressive and innovative work of ice choreography for Patrick. Good luck Patrick:!!! Bring home with Gold medal for the Olympic.
im not trying to be mean at all im just giving my opnion, the music is not cut well, its really badly cut according to how the movie goes and just the overall connections, and he hardly shows emotion for this piece, , i dont know if hes ready for the quad but it might be risky to put it this season since its an olympic year, wish he had a better costume, the first step sequence could be better, he def could improve but i think a new program will be best he skates better to classical music
As much as I don't like the fact that Patrick Chan is using unoriginal music, this program is top notch. He makes me love the music, and this program I think is going to be even better than his last long program.
It's often said you should examine a great skater or a great program by taking out the jumps and see if it still holds interest. This is a great example. Like all skaters Chan is just beginning the season. The program components will pull together over the next few months as they get mileage. Those movements in between and footwork are great.
It looks like my favorite men's skater will again deliver a great program - I'm looking forward to seeing it more polished, mid-season! Thanks for posting!
I liked the beginning but lost interest midway through.... He is such a gifted skater, so smooth and has so much flow. I hope this gets better over the season. Thanks so much for posting it. Good quality! :)
does anyone have a video of patrick chans new short program at this years liberty ?

It's Summer people....
The young (remember he's only 18) will be much more ready as the season progreses/begins.
The judges love the component aspect of his skating, so, as long as most of the jumps are there, Patrick will always be in medal contention.

His first quad attempt! Bold for him. I think he once told that a quad is not needed to
win, so what changed him?
So now he knows how difficult to wrap up the program doing quad, he will behave his
tongue, and I can't expect his smashing big mouth...sigh.
But I'm still sure that he won't attempt a quad in Olympics.
Why should he take risks when judges give him huge GOE plus points for his artistic
double axels?
