I think it's beautiful that this song is combined with "The Mingulay Boat Song." It really did shock me to hear it but it brings such a great memory to an already touching song. :) Beautiful video and great song!
"Today, we find out what doing our duty really means."
Us Clear Skies fans just can't help spamming all the uploads of Mike Oldfield's stuff every time a new ep comes out. Hope the regular listeners who had the fortune of hearing this great artist earlier don't mind TOO much. :)
@007bistromath They shouldn't, they should go nab the Clear Skies trilogy and see how each was put to use... then see what they have to say... this one especially was used to excellent effect.
This is supreme. I can't think of a more perfect pipe tune. And I also consider "Flowers of the Forest" and "The Hero" the best best tracks of this incredible album. Thank you, Truus1949, for uploading this piece of genius.

What's with all the arguing ? Just enjoy the music which - by the way - IS "Flowers of the Forest" - the late Queen Mothers' favourite piece of music.
The mastery of any artist is to present a unique or alternate impression, perspective or interpretation to the observer or listener. It should only be performed as a funeral dirge? Why? (eg.) He's not allowed to integrate two melodies in one piece? Why? I've heard fiddle medleys morph from one reel to another in one piece. Can't it be done on the bagpipes? Oldfield has reinterpreted this piece of music with mastery. It is called "artistic license."
Well shame upon you invernesspiper as from one piper to another, the first part of this is indeed flowers of the forest and the second part is mingulay boat song. They are both marches and both can be played at 2/4 and 3/4 depending upon the situation. Having played with a brass band both of these tunes you adjust which is what has happen here. This is what bothers me. People don't do thier research. The Scots Guard Book of standard pipe settings has the music for this and Mingulay Song. They are two different tunes. If you listen to Isla St Clair sing Flowers Of The Forest The words won't fit into this music. The chorus played here " Heel er ho boys let her go go boys bring her head round into the weather".

the bagpipes give off by far the most beautiful sound ever. when i listen to the bagpipes i close my eyes and think of all the previous wars what it would have been like for the great soldiers who died for me so god bless your souls thank you
I have always loved the sound of bagpipes, they are so full of life and with this song it is just great, despite the terrible wars and the lost of all of the great soldiers.
Definitely one of my all time Mike Oldfield favorites. I truly love the way AggmanUK utilized this fantastic piece in his fantastic mini-documentary on the Mars rovers. Truus, many time my searches bring me back to you, it is truly wonderful. Always awesome to pay you a visit my friend. You continuously provide some of the finest musical material available on YouTube and I really appreciate your time and effort. =) ~ Jason
And that's makes 2 :-) I have this video also on my iPod Touch and when I connect him on the tv and see the video widescreen and the music in dolby surround, wow!!!
It is really wonderful that you still find me Jason and making the videos is always a joy for me, to show what I feel when I listen to music.
There are still discussions about this song, one said he had wrote it, another say, no it isn't from him. Shoot me, but I'm confused and people in the USA claim also this song :-)

the bagpipes give off by far the most beautiful sound ever. when i listen to the bagpipes i close my eyes and think of all the previous wars what it would have been like for the great soldiers who died for me so god bless your souls thank you

Thank you Jason for being a supporter!

wow thank you :-)

It's a traditional Scottish tune. Not Mike Oldfield's.
So it wouldn't make sense to hear it in dutch funerals or weddings. Look the title up in english wikipedia ;)

There are still discussions about this song, one said he had wrote it, another say, no it isn't from him. Shoot me, but I'm confused and people in the USA claim also this song :-)

This is , if I am not mistaken, the one song pipers do not want to play besides funerals and marriage.
Sacred music.....

I have never heard this on funerals and/or marriages. Not in the Netherlands.
