The last time the centralized gov't of a great empire ended & all aspects of life were PRIVATIZED was the middle ages. CIVIC accomplishments like well-policed roads, running water; courts & sewers that made commerce, travel & public health possible fell apart as nobody maintained them. Result: a population kept ignorant by the church (MEDIA) oppressed by feudal barons (CORPORATIONS) & decimated by plague. This is what moron libertarians let the KOCH bros indoctrinate them into wanting. assholes

if i were a sinister corporate douchecunt & me & my other corporate douchecunt friends decided we were tired of spending million of dollars on buying your cumdump representatives & that it would be easier & cheaper just to take away one man = one vote & create an oligarchy; it seems to me the most effective way would be to get YOU to WANT it by convincing you "democracy" is bad & calling rule by a few a "republic" by claiming WE are your representatives. THAT is common sense & human nature.
