Also, I wanted to mention that if you are looking for some answers to your questions, a good book is "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" by LeGrande Richards. I read that over 30 years ago when I was investigating the Church, and it really does help explain things! I remember reading the Book of Mormon all those years ago, but I still wanted to know the DOCTRINES of the LDS church, what made it different than other churches, etc. I found that book in the local library then, and it was so helpful!

Mormonism doctrine clearly states that to attain salvation you must have faith AND do works. The Bible does NOT say that, but clearly says the opposite in Ephesians 2:8-9," For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast." How more clear can it be?

@chaosrokkfreak I'm a convert to the LDS church and we've hear that all the time where people are trying to disprove the church, the line in Revelation about adding to the book, etc. That means the book of Revelation, not the entire Bible. The Bible wasn't in existence as we know it when Revelation was written, it wasn't even in order, etc. I remember people trying to tell me that years ago when I was investigating the LDS church, but I found out the answers.
I go to an LDS church and havent been baptized yet so my opinion might not be as good as a full member, but i think Joseph was a prophet, he may have been corrupted, but he was still a prophet. Also, if any catholics think their religion is flawless, then look back to the middle ages and see how corrupt your priests and even popes were. We could start with a books of golden plates bound by two rings found in Turkey 100 years AFTER the death of Joseph Smith. But in case we have a misunderstanding, specifically, where's the evidence of the history and inhabitants of the BoM? We have yet to find a single piece of currency referred to or any remaining nephite/lamanite swords or armor. Where as we do have proof that the vikings did in fact visit and for a short time live along the upper northeastern coast of N. America.

(how convenient you might say) However 2) Cortes burned every thing that he didn't have space for, and melted down all the gold into bars. 3) the first bishop in central America burned all the books except for the 3 that somehow went with Cortes. Highly doubtful that Cortez could have found or bothered to look for lost currency. Even today, ancient coins are found in Israel. So how come we haven't found BoM currency?

Just to comment on this, my Grandparents went on a cruise to Mexico and South America. While there, the guides showed them symbols that have been discovered and Archaeologists have said the symbol means "It came to pass." Now, how many times have you seen this symbol in the Book of Mormon? In Ephesians 2:8-9 Paul is saying we can't get into heaven just because we were good people, it's the grace of God that allows it.

Also, I wanted to mention that if you are looking for some answers to your questions, a good book is "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" by LeGrande Richards. I read that over 30 years ago when I was investigating the Church, and it really does help explain things! I remember reading the Book of Mormon all those years ago, but I still wanted to know the DOCTRINES of the LDS church, what made it different than other churches, etc. I found that book in the local library then, and it was so helpful!

Maybe you should look into your own religion and stop assuming that what people tell you is true. Mormonism doctrine clearly states that to attain salvation you must have faith AND do works. The Bible does NOT say that, but clearly says the opposite in Ephesians 2:8-9," For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast." How more clear can it be?

@chaosrokkfreak I'm a convert to the LDS church and we've hear that all the time where people are trying to disprove the church, the line in Revelation about adding to the book, etc. That means the book of Revelation, not the entire Bible. The Bible wasn't in existence as we know it when Revelation was written, it wasn't even in order, etc. I remember people trying to tell me that years ago when I was investigating the LDS church, but I found out the answers.

This is just my opinion, but:
I go to an LDS church and havent been baptized yet so my opinion might not be as good as a full member, but i think Joseph was a prophet, he may have been corrupted, but he was still a prophet. Also, if any catholics think their religion is flawless, then look back to the middle ages and see how corrupt your priests and even popes were. Lets be honest, no religion is perfect, but i think ours is the closest you can be to God and to perfection

The Book of Mormon shows that three major civilizations lived, thrived, and died on the ancient American continent, yet not one single artifact has ever been found. DNA from American Indians showed that their ancestry is of Asiatic origin, not Semetic. There has never been a language known as "Reformed Egyptian," that those people supposedly wrote in either.

We are not "trying" to be like the Catholics. We have some of what they do in our church, yes. But many other church organizations have some of the same things the Catholics. Why attack just the Mormons? We have things from many churches-that is because no other church has the fullness of the gospel of Christ. They broke off from His church long ago and only had part of the truthfullness. Oh, and the TEMPLE that we ARE building is not a wannabe Vatican, it's a house of God.

We could start with a books of golden plates bound by two rings found in Turkey 100 years AFTER the death of Joseph Smith. A place that just so happens to be part of the very beginning of the Book of Mormon. What would be the point of going that direction? I am aware of what you are referring to, but that is not archeological evidence for the BoM. But in case we have a misunderstanding, specifically, where's the evidence of the history and inhabitants of the BoM? We have yet to find a single piece of currency referred to or any remaining nephite/lamanite swords or armor. Where as we do have proof that the vikings did in fact visit and for a short time live along the upper northeastern coast of N. America.

The trouble with the above is three fold. 1) The B of M reports that all the records were systematically destroyed. (how convenient you might say) However 2) Cortes burned every thing that he didn't have space for, and melted down all the gold into bars. 3) the first bishop in central America burned all the books except for the 3 that somehow went with Cortes. So if there was documented proof, it is hard to find. Yet such is the case with all Christianity Jewish histories, Islam, Buddhism etc.

True Cortez burned MOST everything. However it was discovered that a few of the old Codices had been hidden away and emerged years after the Conquest.
Highly doubtful that Cortez could have found or bothered to look for lost currency. Even today, ancient coins are found in Israel. So how come we haven't found BoM currency?

The first reference is Enos 1:14 Now it doesn't yet say all records were destroyed but this is early in the Book of Mormon. However this follows dozens of verses about the need to preserve records form conquest and destruction. Later Mormon mentions the need to bury the records in the mountain of Shim. Wherever Shim is unknown. If a group of Archeologists find it, then all proof will be uncovered. It will have a large library of golden books. (that is if Cortes didn't melt it all down)

Secondly, there are artifacts that certainly fit the part. Two murals of the Tree of Life, as a classic example. Even so, the Evangelicals could just as easy turn around and say, "Big deal! The devil dictated the whole thing anyway." Then we are back to square one if you will. My thinking is that since Central American Studies didn't really take off until about 1890-1910 the world has only seen the tip of the iceberg of that area. Contrast that with Israel that hasn't left or died off.

Consider that there are no real solid documents left by the Druids. About all we know is that they liked to make circles with large rocks. That doesn't mean that their lack of found records means they never existed.
Also consider there are similar formations of rocks in the south west parts of America. Possible proof of the Jeridites found in the book of Mormon? I don't know. Lack of documented evidence doesn't make something false.

Just to comment on this, my Grandparents went on a cruise to Mexico and South America. While there, the guides showed them symbols that have been discovered and Archaeologists have said the symbol means "It came to pass." Now, how many times have you seen this symbol in the Book of Mormon? Another guide, when asked by my Grandpa where he could learn more information on all these Native Americans at the time the buildings were built-was told "Read Book of Mormon."

One more quick thing. God doesnt not give anyone a wide open field of things to believe. Actually he is very specific in the Holy Bible about things that can cast you into hell very quickly. So no... according to his word you cant just go and do anything and expect to go to Heaven.
