  • Great, great! thank you so much for your videos! I am the beginner but I already did 3 projects with your videos! Obrigada!

  • Excellent tutorial, thank you :-)

  • It would be really helpful for the more advanced people watching these videos if you posted a separate video without the slowed down parts

  • @kelseydeer You can skip ahead in the video or follow written instructions. My recent project of the crochet Pig hat took 15 hours to render alone. I ended up with about 60 hours editing alone. Creating a video is not instant results like posting a picture online.

  • why i do sometimes 2 and sometimes 3 chains in the corner? Is it depending on the rounds?

  • @tjw1963 how do you join these types of squares together? Can you use the flat braid stitch?

  • this is confusing me i don't understand what double crochet is so its just got me annoyed at myself

  • @diavlope learn the basics first. There are a lot of videos on here demonstrating the single crochet, the double crochet and the half double crochet which are the very basic most common stitches. Keep in mind that stitch names vary depending on where the person demonstrating the stitch is from, but mos of the time they will clarify UK and US terms.

  • THANK YOU! i have always wanted to learn how to crochet a granny square! video was a little fast but i just paused where i needed it and was able to keep along with you! now i just need to learn how to connect all my granny squares..... :D

  • this didn't help me at all.. it actually just pissed me off at the fact that i cant figure out what the hell you're doing and i think i'm not going to crochet anymore because i'm so freakin frustrated...

  • @moocowofdoom27 I would suggest that you start out practicing the beginner crochet stitches before trying a project. I have sent you the beginner crochet playlist.

  • @moocowofdoom27 dont give up sugar, i recommend u start with a beginner crochet video and work up to this, im self taught and wanted to give up a lot of times but stuck w/ it, u will get it just give it time

  • Thank you so much for this video. It is the best demo ever,,,,

  • @GabHanna Thank you.

  • yay i did it (happy dance)

  • You explain better and take your time at the beginning this video was not successful at all!!!

  • Your going a bit fast but you've got a really clear voice well done x

  • this one is so nice i like

  • omg thanks SOOO much, i use it to make miniature rugs , pillows & blankets.

  • @abbyRaimundo You are welcome.

  • i have done this and its quite big now that a standard sized ball of wool goes round the four sides only 5 times now. thing is i dont have a perfect square shape. when u fold it in half and hold it up it looks miss shaped n not very square, why is this please help?

  • @teresah1982 It is possible that you have more stitches on one or more sides, which will make it uneven, Counting stitches will let you know if you have worked to many.

  • written snowflake instructions

  • @Mr141967 They are all posted on my crochet blog

  • Hi Teresa You are amazing and make this look so easy. Im from Thailand.Thank you

    very muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @Sukalya1 I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • @tjw1963

Thank you so much for your video. I wanted to crochet an afghan using the solid granny square pattern but couldn't manage it until i found this video. Now I'll be able to crochet a beautiful afghan for my son (and so much more : the possibilities are infinite). Thanks again.

  • @stephaneash You are welcome!

  • I love your videos!! I watch them once or twice and get the hang of it immediately. I have one question for this particular pattern. Can I change colors in between rounds?

  • I love this tutorial!!! I am self taught, and I have two questions....

1.) I am having trouble knowing where the beginning chain three is at when joining. Is it at the bottom or at the top near the double crochet? (I hope I'm not confusing)

2.) You say to join rounds by single crochet, but at the beginning of round four you double crochet to join. Is this a mistake, or is there a reason for it?

    Again, thanks a bunch!!!

  • finally after about 6 times of not being able to get past the 10 minute mark before messing up (mostly the corner increases!) I finished my first square! thanks so much for this video! you're a great teacher and I can't wait to watch more of your vids and learn more!

  • @emilyprincess24 Sometimes all it takes is a little practice. Glad you got it!

  • Hello! You have taught me to crochet! Thank you so much for your videos! I'm having issues with keeping this as a square. I want to make as solid as a square I possibly can to prevent snagging. Do you have another square pattern that is easy enough for a beginner, that is very solid?

  • could you put captions

  • Thanks for posting this. It was really helpful! I'm now proficient enough at this that I can do it while watching tv lol. I'm working on a blanket made up of solid granny squares for which I need 140. I'm a bit slow, but hoping it'll be done by fall. :)

  • @Katskradle931 You are welcome! As you work each square, you will pick up speed and not notice it. Working slower will reduce the potential for mistakes.

  • HI TERESA YOU CAN SUBTITULAR IN SPANISH THIS VIDEO?

  • HI TERESA YOU CAN SUBTITULAR IN SPANISH THIS VIDEO?

  • Just wondering, can you mix and match your granny squares? In other words, can I make a bunch in different designs and then attach them, or would they not match up correctly?

  • @canrsiegrl You can mix and match them. I have found that they can be up to 1/2 inch difference in size. You can ease them together when they are not perfect.

  • Hello, not sure if this question was asked/answered but I've been using this extremely helpful video to make about 25 of these solid squares. My question is, what method do you suggest for joinging them individually to make a blanket? Thanks for your awesome videos!

  • @SuperSparrow82 I suggest sewing them together. Sewing gives you a seam where slip stitching will give you a raised ridge.

  • Thank you very much!

  • @pandagirl4561 You are welcome!

  • I love your videos!! I learnt how to crotchet watching them and am now half way through making an Afghan..and i started crocheting about 1 wk ago :D But...im trying to do this square and the patch is curling and i find it a bit awkward doing the single double crotchet..i have a mare inserting the hook to do the stitch, am i doing something wrong?

  • i end up with 6 not 7 on round 2 what am i doing wrong?

  • @Stephy27Pooh It sounds like you have missed a stitch somewhere. I suggest that you check out the symbol instructions posted on my crochet blog to see the stitch placement. You will find the link to the symbol instructions posted in the video details below the video.

  • love your videos...thanks!!

  • @southernbelle082104 You are welcome!

  • what are the approximate measurements of this square?

  • @southernbelle082104 six inches

  • no i'm making a blanket and it is square you just continue and 2dc in corner chain 4 then 2 more dc in same corner hole, once i got it, it goes really fast

  • sorry you dc in corner hold chain 4 and 2 more dc go around the runway then same with next corner, when you have you3 holes at the beginning you go into the chain to conect , you can see the video on mikey's page, i'm doing one know it's great, it's the pink yarn example

  • @myna102 You are wanting to do a continual round granny square?

  • This is like the never ending granny square you just keep going around, you double c in hole chain 4 and two more doubles, and keep going around

  • thats hot

  • @Danvcxz Thank you!

  • I think this is great but I can't use this because you go to fast and the pause button isn't helping.

  • @adeleamra So the slow motion at time code 00:50 is to fast? There is more slow motion at 3:10. There is a link in the video details below the video to the written instructions?

  • This is a great tutorial!!! I just wish it was a little slower for slow people like me...XD

  • @BambooTiger4 Thank you! I will keep your suggestion in mind for future tutorials!

  • @BambooTiger4: She slows down very often! You can always use the pause button!

  • I just want to say thank you so so much for ur tutorials on crochetn I am expectin a grandson in april2011 and i wantd too learn 2 crochert and wit ur help i feel comfortable /once im finished i will take a pic and post it 2 ur page again thanks so much

  • @Adventurous214 Congratulations on the expected grandbaby! Looking forward to pictures!!

  • hello! if i wanted to make a blanket, with the solid granny square, how would i do that?

  • @TenkiTench You will continue to make the square larger, making it to the size you want. You can also connect the squares together individually.

  • What is the name of this granny square? Everytime I do a search on Granny Squares I just get the traditional.

  • @lameexcuse17 The solid granny square.

  • @tjw1963 thanks haha didnt realize it was in the title.

  • Could the starting be done with a magic circle?

  • @LensBride Yes, you can start with the magic circle. Just remember upon completing the square, to knot the circle very well at the beginning or the square will come apart.

  • This video helped me tremendously! Thank you for posting it. The only trouble I had was seeing exactly where you joined one row to the next. You said to join at chain 3, only I don't know where that is. I finally just picked a spot and crocheted around - when I realized the place I had picked didn't work, I tore it out and tried again. 7 hours later - I did stop to make dinner :) - I finally figured it out. Hopefully the 2nd square will go much faster!

  • TOO FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @611SNOOPY611 20 minutes is to fast?

  • @tjw1963 No, 20 minutes is awesome timing. I meant you crochet really fast. It's kind of hard to see what you're doing.

  • @tjw1963 No, 20 minutes is amazing timing. I meant you move to fast, and sometimes the editing cuts make it hard to see what you're doing.

  • Ok look, I'm not trying to be rude or anything but, your confusing me! I'm so confused right now. It's like you go to fast then I have to rewind and slow down and speed up and I'm soooo confused. But I love your work. & I'm only 14 so that might be why. But I made stuff b4 sooo.. I don't think it's me. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!

  • @MissLoveLifeLaugh1 Thank you. The confusion will be related to the learning process. Keep practicing and it will eventually make sense.

  • what is the size of the square on completion? can u make it any bigger? like 8 inches? thanks.

  • @2LIP75 It was approximately 6 to 7 inches. You can make it larger.

  • love the vid! i like how you dont go to fast and actually slow it down to see exactly what you are doing!

  • @luvlyangeleyez Thank you. :)

  • you are the crochet goddess <3

    thankyou for teaching me!!!!!

  • @charizzlebizzle You are welcome.

  • you are the crochet goddess <3

  • Can I use smaller needles, like size D to come with the same design but smaller size? Like something around less than 5 inches?

  • @Etnaese Yes, this pattern will adapt to a smaller crochet hook and smaller yarn. You can use less rounds if it is still to big.

  • @tjw1963

    Thanks for the info!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! mine really looks like a square... Could I do this the entire length of a blanket - just one big granny square?

  • @ALETHEIA8881 Yes you can continue with the size to make a blanket as large as you want to.

  • wow

  • Can you send me a link to join the rows also, My squares look ok in 3 of the corners but in the corner where you connect it always looks sloppy and the hole is smaller or non visible on this side, any suggestions? Love your videos by the way.

  • I love the videos but i cant see it please try to show the work its hard to see

  • I don't understand how you join the rows. It's confusing to me and mine ends up looking sloppy.

  • @ElveeKaye I will send you a link for joining rounds.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you! :o)

  • Hi Teresa, question....I am on my 13th row of this stitch making a baby blanket....the starting row (when I chain at the very beginning to being a new row) has less dc's than the row across from it on the opposite side.....(ex:38, and on the other side 51) is there a way to make this right? I don't know how it happened that I am off just on that side. Thanks for your help!

  • @LoveImaDenise You can add in extra stitches until you are caught up again. If you are missing 1 or 2, include an extra stitch in the chain on each side until you have caught up and all sides are the same again. If it looks to uneven, you may want to consider ripping back to the point where you missed the stitches.

  • Teresa, you are the best teacher in the whole world. I hope you never quit posting. I am using this granny square pattern & thought I could just keep going with it until I had a baby blanket size & put a pretty border on it. It doesn't seem to be staying square. The corners are stretching out. Any suggestions to help with keeping the piece square. Thank you!

  • Thank you. It sounds like your corners may be relaxing a bit. You may be crocheting looser and making looser stitches as it gets larger. Since you mentioned the corners, there may be to many in the corner. When you are making a larger square, it is alright to modify as you go. Instead of chain 2, you can chain 1 to control the corners. Maybe you want to do increases of 1DC,CH 1, 1DC instead of the 2DC. That will control it. You can switch back if it starts to pucker. Hope that makes sense

  • Thanks, I will try your sugestions. It does make sense to me.

  • Another quick question..is it normal for a square piece to become "unsquare" as it gets larger or is it just me. I have had this trouble before. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this video! I am making the squares almost perfect!! Can you give me any advice on the best way to attach them to make a blanket? Thanks a million!

  • heyy i wus wondering if...u know how to make a water bottle holder out of plastic bags? if you do plz post a tutorial on how to do this bcuz i culdnt find any videos. thnks soo much. FINALLY!! this vid relly helped me on my granny square thnx!!1

  • Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

  • You are welcome.

  • hello theresa. i am making an afghan out of solid granny squares of 3 colors. i was wondering.. is there a way to crochet the motifs together all at once, without cutting the yarn? thank you !!

  • You can slip stitch them together on the last round to the adjoining square.

  • you just gave me a great idea!!!! thanks!

  • i LOVE all of your video...i have learned SOOOOOO much...thank you!!!!!

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you! I was able to make my first granny square from your tutorial and am very excited to make a bunch of them into a baby blanket for my cousin!

  • You are welcome.

  • Also, the slow-motion is really helpful, especially when you do it at the beginning, the first time you do a step (e.g., double crochet through the hole in the ring -- it took me a couple of looks at my beginner crochet book to figure out what you were doing there).

  • This is really a helpful way to learn -- especially since you include a link to the written instructions so I can learn how to read a crochet pattern by watching your video and looking at the pattern. Thank you so much for putting in the time to do this!

  • You make it look so easy, yet no matter how many times I try, I always seem to go wrong somewhere in the second round...

  • I suspect that it may be the corners. There will be 4 chain 2 spaces on each round that make the corners. You will do a double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochet in each corner. The corners will start to form and it will start to look like a square. Each round is ended in the center of the corner so half of the first corner will be worked. The last half of the first corner will be worked last, ending in the center of the corner.

  • How do you tie off this square, so you can connect them later for a blanket?

  • Your written instructions have you repeating the 'shell 2dc ch2 2dc' in the middle of the row which contradicts what the diagram says and what you do. Am I reading it wrong?

  • Both set of instructions start working half of the shell in the same space and then across the flat edge.

  • I thought i was following everything to a T.

i think i figured it out though.

when you say "DC thru the same ch space", I think i was DCing through the ch 3 space, not the ch1 space.

    i dunno. ill try it.

  • when starting round 2 for example, I ch 1, then SC thru the beginning ch 3, then DC through the same ch space.

THEN you say to DC thru each of the next DC's, which would be 3. but i only have 2! (the other sides have 3, but not the 1st side.)

same thing when i start row 3. you say i should do 7 DCs thru each of the next DCs but i only have 6. (again, the other sides have 7, but not the 1st side.)

    so on and so forth.

do you understand what im saying???

bc i dont know what im doing wrong.

  • You do not have enough double crochet on one side from what it sounds like. I do have written instructions posted on my crochet blog and a symbol chart. It may be helpful with the stitch placement and for you to see what may be going wrong. You can click on the "More Info" link to the right of the video for the link to my crochet blog.

  • hey could i make a bunch of these then sew them together to make a quilt if not then were can i learn to make a quilt and by the way i love your videos

  • Robhomie,

Yes, you can sew them together to make a quilt. I know Teresa has that on youtube as well. Good luck!

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment. I will send you a link on sewing them together.

  • Thanks Teresa,

I think my PC or my brain is 'playing up' as I can't seem to access the playlists.

I can see the heading but when I click on it nothing happens. I would love to download all the playlists but don't know how.

Again TU, I am really enjoying your artistic flair and brilliant way you explain, very easy to follow for a thick head like myself, Thanks heaps

    Janina

  • Under the new format, the playlists should be showing up to the lower right of the video when you click on playlist. You will see the option of a link or embedding. I am revising some of my other playlists,

  • TU Teresa,

    I love unusual granny squares?

I also appreciate your clear instructions.

Do you have playlists for different sections eg granny or bits that will make up blankets etc, also items for chidren.

    Thanks again very muc appreciated

    Blessings

    Janina

  • I do have a playlist. You can find it by going to my main channel page and click on playlist at the top of the page. You will see the one for granny squares.

  • amazing you are!!! i've spent 3 day's watching someone else on youtube on "how to crochet a granny square" and never got no where!! I have followed your instrutions once and,"hay prestow" a granny square just like you showed!! thankyou ever so much.i am a beginner btw. Keep up the good work ;)

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment. I will send you my playlist for granny squares.

  • I looove you Teresa!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much, again. You are truly an inspiration for all of us. :)

  • Thank you, I appreciate your comment.

  • Hi! I just finished my granny square and it has come out great...thanks! This is my first ever granny square. :)I also have a question.. if I make the other granny squares as per your videos will they all be relatively the same size so that later I can sew them all together or should I make them all to a particular size?

  • They will come out close. You can modify squares to add another round of stitches if they are not large enough. When I am using different square patterns, none of mine are exactly the same size. They are close to 6 inches plus or minus a little bit. I ease them together and it looks just fine upon completion.

  • Thanks for the prompt reply... you are a real inspiration to me. I have just started crocheting about 2 weeks ago and your videos have been ultra helpful.. to put it mildly. thanks again Teresa.. you rock! :)

  • Hi. just learning how to crochet and just wanted to tell u that i really enjoy ur easy to learn videos. I also live in Savannah on the southside.
