  • Besides jimi hendrix finale performance at pop festival in 67 this may be second to the the greatest rock performances of all time

  • dose anyone know what fender amp he uses

  • @turdboiler1 I assume it's some kind of Tweed Deluxe, I'm not sure though. What I wanna know is what rack mount he's using

  • @TheReamMachine its a fender twin blond . paul told me on the b-hole website all ask him what rack is that in the video and get back to you

  • well, that's still nuts.

  • Paul is such a badass...I really love the part at 1:53 when they stop and it's just Paul playing, then the badass slide into the song.

  • butthole surfers if you cant hang get the fuck!!!!!!!!

  • 4:30 - Can't stop here...this is bat country.

  • i always preferred their studio lps...live they were always a mess......lol....rememebr seeing them live in 1984 with black flag abnd sacharine truast in nj.

  • @posthumanhero

Damn, how was that show???? I guess that was around when black flag was slowing down ( their sound, not touring).

  • @posthumanhero i remember my brothers happy hardcore friend playing their ep on a cassette from a boom box in the backseat and i'm thinking, 'i guess they're a weird rap band'.....sacharine trust made a bigger impression on me though, the singer like an escaped mental patient grabbing the ceiling pipes as he sang -- always thought buttholes were kind of experimental music for meatheads -- they had strobes and no fire or nude girl yet.....flag did my war songs and new ones like 'rat eyes'.

  • @rancidsexbeast So, you're saying that rock and roll is missing LSD these days? Brother, everyone is missing LSD these days. So, why don't you make yourself useful and go learn chemistry and start making acid by the gallon. Then, meet up with me somewhere in the United States and we'll have lunch with a little Lucy on the side.

  • 8 people were not dosed by gibby

  • Who disliked this?

  • Paul Leary is so groovy

  • Better LSD than pcp...for real

  • Fucking amazing! Butt, what name is the first song they played here?

  • @callergrim the song is called two parter

  • Comment removed

  • No words...

  • fucking amazing

  • Butthole Surfers is the greatist band ever to touch planet earth

  • This is food. Eat up, children.

  • when gutter punx in austin take a bunch of acid... BUTTHOLE SURFERS

  • Watching Gibby carefully plunk out the rhythm line to this song with all the unselfconcious concentration of a first-year guitar student, he grins at 1:29 like "ha, I is playin the guitar all by myself!" Hard to notice with Paul doing his insane stoner antics...I love this band.

  • the "Butthole Surface"

  • For their first show in Houston circa 83' they opened for a band I was in. We had heard of them from some friends in Austin. Total chaos, funny as hell, sonic art noise one minute then shift gears into some twisted Molly Hatchet spoken-word tribute. Made our band seem very very bland. Love them still.

  • what... the... fuck?!!!

  • LSD? whewwww! How can you play on that shit?

  • are they trying to make fun of Sonic Youth on their trip to NY? LOL...At a live show GIbby once referred to the stone temple pilots as the stone pimple toilets....lol

  • @misterdesade Ha! I saw that tour!

  • how the hell did these guys ever get started lol... dont get me wrong, they are great,, but so different,, even for thier time.... so glad to have them tho.

  • you dont even need acid to feel tripped out from that music.

  • scary actually... hahahaha

  • awesome video

  • Butthole Surfiz

  • WHOS THE BASSIST?

  • @sliterturn1 Your mom.

  • tp parter is on the remastered version of rembrandt pussyhorse but its really off the cream corn from socket of miles davis ep

  • whats the first song they played called?

  • TP Parter off the album Rembrandt Pussyhorse

  • too parter

  • Fuckin' A right-on,I hear ya Brother!

  • Charlie don't surf!!! But I do, there ain't too many bands having fun no more stepchilds, this here failure to communicate resents levels on cognitive demands psychologically and aggregate demands economically, and by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, be sure and tell her.......!!!!!! xoxo

  • co to za cfele spierdalać mi z tym

  • does anybody know what the first song is called its bad ass

  • Its called too parter x

  • This shit is epic!

  • tornadoes was turned into a great improv sound wave

  • Paul Leary is the greatest guitar god ever here

  • and his favorite guitarist is curt kirkwood

  • Paul Leary is the gift of the ages to the universe.

  • do you think he was influenced by brian eno? Listen to warm jets.

  • amen bruvva

  • purple haired paul,awsome

  • Now why isn't music made like this anymore? Beautiful.

  • It SHOULD be.

  • yeah, it's on the ep-my mistake

  • TP Parter

  • Hi! I know Scott, in fact his awesome paintings are in a show in my gallery. good stuff :)

  • well that's better than being partly blown.

  • almost sounds like they are introduced as the "Butthole Surface".

  • shut up

  • anti-Butthole? hey it's cool.

  • im not anti-butthole, im a fully blown butthole surfer

    sic

  • whats the first song name im confused

  • 2 Parter.

  • or to parter

    or too parter

  • brilliant...you can't tell these boys aint trippin an havin a ball... hehhee ...

gibby's tryin not to burst open in the end. class.

...n that geezer interviewinz a total plank az well! ..condescending wanker.

  • it was supposed to be "Tornadoes" but it turned out they just improvised and sometimes the noise can get to you .....but all you have to do is follow the notes....

  • awesome

  • As to zeramski's comment. I think most of course realize that, moreso important is beating the cat in the cage to watch the range ah faces...at other people's loss of comprehension perhaps. Humble & Weird, the early beginnings.

  • You would be a legend if you did this at school!

  • love the guys but the music...honestly. to you that deem this "experimental"...have you ever tried picking up an instrument and playing poorly? there's not much to it. especially when you're f-ed on acid, jeez, it's kids' play. the moral of the story is: go get a crappy guitar center guitar+amp for 100 bucks with some hi-grade blotter and you'll get tired of this noise real fast. love the interviews though! genius...

  • Give me a bunch of kids on acid beating the shit out of their equipment over "experimental" any fucking day.

And stories with morals are the worst kind of stories.

  • AMEN this is beautiful

  • Where is Cadet Don?

    You guys suck!!!!

  • At 4:30: The bassist is having himself a "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?!" moment.

  • haha true and nice fear and loathing ref

  • According to wikipedia these guys were born in 1957? lol

  • Gibby (the singer) was. He was also an accountant before he started the band.

  • I could see how being an accountant would lead to this kind of band, you know? haha

  • read our band could be your life and you will find out

gibby & paul first met at university

  • What album is this song off of?

  • Creamed Corn From the Socket of Davis ep

  • Cool performance. Pauk Leary looks out of his mind!

  • Pretty soon a thing the size of New York City had proposed itself out of the side of John's left leg and he had said "my god, the 69 nuns in the 575 7 times 5 million miles away attached to my leg have taught me that I am not a scumbag child-boy, but I am a bicycle weightless kacyborg that is in there and like I am worshiped to the sun, for the sun was there and it was a tiny brain-child that called itself "itself" and why wander? Because I wandered and there it was like a meatdog that had come

  • ok, baby whatever gets you going

  • The Butthole Surfiz!!

  • These guys are the SHIT!! Sung the worlds greatest song too (even though it was Al what wrote it). And that song is Jeesus Built My Hotrod. And Alcohol.. And that song is Hurdy Gurdy Man... And it is Jesus Was Way Cool.

  • you can't fake this

  • I love this song, so much harmony.

    So peacefull and serene. :)

  • Much better than the 2nd part.

  • Why would someone give this a thumbs-down? IT'S THE TRUTH!

  • I used to hang around with some girls from Trinity University in San Antonio. We were at a couple of parties where the BH Surfers were there. They just kinda stood in a corner and made fun of everyone else. We caught some of there early shows - great stuff.

  • how inspiring....

    the world needs more acid

  • don't the Teresa and Coffey "twins" look (awesomely) like grown up versions of the kid from Gummo

  • Pretty much one of the greatest musical performances on tape. Drugs win again.

  • Yes, "musical"

  • Are you quoting me? I don't think it's necessary to quote me since you're comment is right under mine. You should have thought of something of your own to say.

  • @Gumbyrearygood Okay, I will: Butthole Surfers have no privilege on this Earth. There. Done. I can get further into it, but I'll just leave it at that. I'm such a schlemiel otherwise.

  • Did they just slay that song or am I imagining things?

  • I remember the 80's . I remember Huey Lewis and the News! Is that them?

  • I watch this pretty much once a day.

  • Huey Lewis and the News: Bad art. Butthole Surfers: Good art. I love Gibby. Funny guy. Although Huey probably doesn't realize it, his "music" is much more "noise" than anything the BHS's ever produced.

  • My heros!!!

  • dropped a lot of acid+ smoked some good shit + listened to the surfers = alife changing experience it all seemed to make sence one of the best bands in the world who never used to do what the labels wanted except maybe weird revolution-paul+gibby for president

  • The buttholes themselves will tell you it was never about being punk; they wanted to make money, but no major label wanted to sign a bunch of terrible musicians who loved weird shit, terrible noise and acid. Eventually they got older, less weird, and Capital Records said ok. But they weren't like "fuck the system", they were just too bizarre in their youth. Good for us, eh?

  • Who is on base?

  • i think they had about 17 bass players before Jeff, so take your pick

  • yeah doesn't look like anyone in the band even wants to talk to him, must have left rather quickly :P

  • I don't know what to say actually

  • The song is TP Parter from Rembrandt Pussyhorse.

  • TP Parter is from the Cream Corn From The Socket Of Davis E.P. released 1985; but you are right in that Cream Corn was merged with Rembrandt Pussyhorse.

  • Creamed Corn is also available on the British version of "Psychic.. Powerless. Another Man's Sac", which I have.

On that release "TP Parter" is called "Two Part"

  • Leary is really into it :) Great song, kickass guitars

  • wish Ta-Da was in it though. I guess either they didn't know about her yet or naked belly dancers weren't allowed on a show with 5 viewers in those days.

  • 4.26. Either this guy is on some serious acid (more than probable) or he plays the part well. What a band.

  • LOL Yeah, I think the bassist is feeling it a lot more than Gibby or Paul. But then again, he's probably a temp guy who's unaccustomed to eating a bunch of blotter and trying to produce coherent melody on live TV. Poor bastard looks like he's fixin' to freak out.

King and Theresa swear they never dropped and played; too hard to keep rhythm, they said.

  • a rightous noise.i first heard the butts in the 80s while on mushrooms :)) mad.loved them eversince.checkout bongwater & shockabilly

  • ALL ON ACID THE ACID ARA 1984

  • this is a great video theres alot of bands on this video of the scott and gary show this first song it called TO PARTER

  • The song is two-parter

  • What song is it?

  • It may sound weird, but to hear this in the eighties, and early eighties at that, is to me the most freaky and incredible thing about this video. Can nobody see the similarities between bands like Nirvana and stuff like this, and these guys were playing at the time when rubbishy lipstick groups were pumping trash on the airwaves.

  • Leary's feelin it

  • this era of the butthole surfers was incredible...they could throw up a wall beautiful dissonance like no other.

  • agreed.

  • disagreed

  • too parter-> tornados

  • What song is this?

  • Wow, never seen this one live....that I remember....

  • Classic stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  • Paul is surely nuts. Thanks Scott and Gary!!

  • gibby looks so young, so cute

  • great band who deserve more credit! thanks for posting!

  • I love this

  • u got it back!! sweet video!

  • Surely the BHS didn't drop, how scandalous!

  • Thank You, all!

  • Future members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Gibby rules.
