  • when you wash it out, will the dye stain your bathtub??

  • @watermelonsoda121 as far as i know, u need to dry the shirt for 24 hours and then wash it. u dont want the dyes to wash out.

  • what if i only want to do just the sleeves a single color?

  • where do you get soda ashh?

  • How do youu make the color black for tie dye?

  • @melanierose44 all you have to do is wrap the rubber bands around then dip it into the the purple dye. It should work

  • what if i started with a white shirt and just wanted purple swirls, no other color how would i do that after i swirled the shirt?

  • this video has helped me so much and haha you all seem really cool just a by the way :)

what will happen if i didn't use the soda ash, will the color last for few days or it won't work at all ?!!!

and if i won't use the soda ash, should the t-shirts be wet ??

  • it will work, but the color wont be as bright and wont adhere to the shirts as well, yes the shirts should be presoaked!

  • Awesome video very helpful :)

  • hey what if i started with a shirt that was already colored....like say bright yellow?

  • it wont work very well

  • omg i just bought the blue red and yellow kit are you saying it wont be bright?

  • how do i get my shirts to turn out brighter i left them in the wrap for two days and i did everything else like you did but when i washed them they faded and were dull...

  • I just wanted to tell you that after watching your video I was able to throw my 8 year old a tie dye party for her and 19 of her closest girlfriends. The shirts came out PERFECT and no one was a mess!! thanks so much for doing this video.

ps. we all did the swirl technique and they were fabulous!!

  • i'm happy they came out so well!

  • thank you so much!! me & my 3 children made tie dye t-shirts after watching your instruction video and they came out awesome!! i really appreciate it, i am not a "crafty" mom, and worry that my kids are missing out, but this WAS a crafty project, and we all loved it! thanks so much!!

  • Your welcome!

  • thank you so much! (:

  • cool, i can't find any kits here in australia so i got some of that powder dye, i'll dilute it and get me some squeezie bottles :) woohoo!! definitely gonna give this a go!! thanks heaps!!

  • should work fine! have fun!

  • how much dye do you need for about 20 people?

  • i would say about 5 kits

  • I like tiedie socks

  • me too, i always make them every time i dye with the leftovers!

  • does the shirt have to be white??

  • yes

  • Does it have to be pure white?

or can you use kinda faded white shirts?

  • the best results are pure white

  • What does the soda ash do and where can i get it

  • faq's

  • Any thoughts as to how to approach tie dying curtains.

I plan to do this as a project for 2 little girls.?

  • i would fold them in half to make the project a little smaller to work with!

  • Your video was AWESOME!!! you answered alllll my questions. Even the ones that i thought about asking ... you answered in the second video!! THANK YOU!

  • I did some tie dye with my friends and just did everything the paper told me to do on the tie dye kit. It never said anything about soda ash tho. Will it ruin the shirts if you dont use that b4 doing the dye? Btw your video was GREAT! lots of HELP! love the music!

  • Great Video! Your shirts look great!

  • oh yeah, and youre incredibly hot.

  • thanks

  • do you have to start with a white t-shirt? i was thinking about starting with yellow.

  • i wouldnt, it might make the colors look brownish, unless you just use red and blue which will look like green and orange on yellow!

  • I bought the tulip brand tie dye kit which the directions say that it does not need soda ash. Should I still buy soda ash??

  • soda ash makes colors brighter

  • i wanted to know if u were going to make a new video cuz i love this one

  • soon, very soon

  • Thanks for the clip I have wanted to tie dye when I was a kid had no one to show me Remembering Woodstock thanks again peace ;)

  • wow this is really helpful. im gonna tye dye some shirts for back to school and this was a great help! thanks so much for this tutorial. one question though...ive heard you are supposed to wash the shirt before hand to get chemicals off and stuff. is this necessary? thanks!

  • yes you want to pre-wash them

  • What's the yellow tie dye box u have there?

  • just a different type of dye

  • I just bought a tie-dye kit. Thanks for the help. Does all that dye stain the bathtub?

  • nope

  • i was windering if you were going to make another viedo about tie dyeing because i love this viedo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i keep saying it, but i will soon, i swear! lol

  • Great tutorial - thank you for putting it up!

  • thanks you were a big help (:

  • Should the shirt be 100% cotton? Should the shirt first be damp when you begin with it?

    Nice tutorial. (:

  • 90-100% thats it, dont go anything less! you have to soak the shirt in soda ash water, so yes the shirt will be wet

  • thank you so much my shirts are so tripy ever one love my ones

  • This video, helped me out alot. Your video is the best so far :]] Keep posting vids!

  • thanks for making this video.

iv only owned 1 tie-dye shirt and i lost it when i was really little, after watching this video im definitely going to make my own.

i just need to find the dye and soda-ash.

    thanks so much :)

  • great job!

  • When I washed the items after rinsing them the colors all blended together in the washing machine and ruined them. How do I avoid that? Any advice would be great. ( I used Rit Dye)

  • dont use rit dye, their dye is meant to be used in the washing machine so that is probably why it happend

  • Thank you for the video, it helped my friend and I VERY much! Could you tell me what the song is? I really like it, thanks :)

  • Are those kits the three 8 oz bottles of dye and if so how many shirts can you get out of it with diluting once? Thank you for the awesome video! Very helpful.

  • it all depends on what size shirts you use

  • you make it look so easy!!!

  • thanks, that is what i was going for!

  • sorry im back had another thought

if i paint the dye on the shoe is it gonna leave lines and also how long should i leave the shoe sitting dying and should i wrap my shoe in saran rap or just a platic bag

  • i've never dyed shoes before so i am not sure about lines you are talking about! i think it would be fine painting it on but i would use a good amount and wrap it in a plastic bag!

  • hi you seem to know what your talking about " the whole dying stuff thing" and i just wanted to ask a few questions

first off i am dying a pair of white canvas vans that are white right now a couple colors either 2 or 3 and i thought i would only need the dyes and thats it and paint brushes and some tape but you said something about soda ash?? what will this do to the shoe does it alter the dying process?

  • it makes the chemical reaction between the cotton and the dye stronger, so the colors are brighter and attach to the fabric better, basically it makes them stronger and last longer

  • First of all, great video. I've never made one before, but i plan to in the next few days, and this definitely answered some questions. Second, i was wondering if it was possible to make a spiral one with the colors green, red and orange without them mixing and making browns and stuff? would i have to leave some space inbetween each color when adding the dye?

Thank you for your time btw.

  • i would leave some space just in case!

  • your hott! ;)

  • yay thanks for the help..

great music choice...is that old gym class heroes? ;o

  • for the kids!

  • how do you make just plain red and blue with the fuchsia, yellow, turqouise, and purple dyes? Please respond quickly! These are for the 4th of July! (tomorrow)

  • you cant, you would need red and blue

  • Hello. Can you please tell me which colors to use and which colors make each color.thx!!

  • its in the video and the faq's

  • Thanks so much for your video! I made the shirts yesterday with my sister and they came out PERFECT!

    thanks so much!

  • how do you get streaking on the shirt, like on the one you are wearing? :)

  • you cant do it on purpose.... its all random, thats the beauty of it

  • first question -

can you put all the shirts in the washer at once?

2nd - how would you go about tie dying a dress ? i'm confused with the spiral method like.. how it would work, if it would turn out okay?

    and third ..

can you re-tie dye something if it didn't turn out the way you wanted?

  • yes you can wash them all at once... you can do the swirl with a dress!

  • siledoi ala gringita ;D

  • hello, very good video, Greetings from Chile!

  • Whenever I have a question about tie dye I always come back to your video!

I just made 10 tie dye shirts as graduation presents for my girlfriends! I have become known as the tie dye girl at school, everyone loves my designs! They're random, but they love it!

keep tie dying, you're awesome! :)

ps. if you put a little soda ash on a rag and rub the dye on your hands it should disappear!

    HAPPY TIE DYING :)

  • WOW! your video was AWESOME! ive never tie dyed before and after watching your video you had AWESOME instructions.

  • hey--

so say i did a bulk tie die fest and wanted to wash the shirts all together. would that work? and what if i were to do it where no washing machines were available.. could be just wash it over and over and hang it out to dry? hope to hear from yah.

  • thats fine!

  • hey great video!!

  • thankyou this was great

  • You said in your FAQ video that the way to do the tie-dye design of the shirt that you're wearing in this video is the same with the one that you teached. I noticed that there are certain parts of the tie-dye shirt that you're wearing has white(maybe un tie-dyed) parts and the one that you made in the video doesnt. How do you do those white parts? Just leave one section without dye or some other way?

    Thanks if you reply. (:

  • some times if you put less dye into the shirt you get more white... you never really know

  • i like your tshirt!

and thanks for the vid, i love tie dye!!!

  • random question: do you live in the midwest?

  • not so random answer: No lol

  • Great video. I have one question. I hope you haven't already answered it, and if you have, feel free to ignore me :) Was the dye in your kit RIT dye? Because some people say that it is not as good as fiber reactive dyes. What is your opinion? Thanks so much!

  • no i hate rit dye it looks very dark!

  • When I buy the "Tie Dye" Kit, Does it come with the Ash?

  • I love your videos, Did you do the one for peace signs yet? I have been looking for it , I have my shirts still soaking in the soda ash while I look tirelessly for that one patterned video. I am sorry you no longer are into the video thing, you are so awesome at it. thanks so much.

  • I know you said you aren't really in to "YouTubing" anymore but I am DYING to know how to make a peace sign tie dye shirt. Any chance there will be another tie dye video in the makes? Soon?

  • within a week!!!!

  • how do you tie-dye a double bed sized duvet cover + pillowcases?

    I decided i need a psychedelic bed.

  • same way! just scrunch the fabric toward the middle while you swirl

  • You video rocked! I watched your video and did it perfect! My sons birthday was a hit 10 boys(7 year olds) all doing tie dye! It was a piece of cake

    Thanks!

    Brad

Oh BTW the best part of the video was when you got in the bathtub! (Must be the Guy in me!)

  • what was the ash thing you spoke about

  • helps the dye adhere to the fabric

  • I can't wait! Just made 4 shirts for a party at Disneyland for the Employees. Thanks to you... I felt so much more comfortable making the shirts. Can't wait to see how they turn out. Thanks again!!

  • your wwelcome!

  • should you prewash the shirts if they are new before you start?

  • yes

  • yay. now we can all be hippies!! i love it.

  • what about a peace sign??? i cant find any on how to do those???

  • soon

  • Fun video- I was sad you aren't into it anymore - you'd make a FANTASTIC Art teacher.

I wanted to dye those synthetic fabric grocery bags (the reusable ones they sell) but they don't accept dye or even bleach! (already bought 400 for a camp :-!)

What do you think about tie dying square of cotton fabric and gluing it on as a panel? Any other ideas?

Anything cheaper than a kit to die with, since I won't be washing these bags?

  • Fun Video - I was sorry to hear you aren't into it anymore - you'd make a FANTASTIC Art teacher.

I wanted to tie dye those grocery bags that substitute the brown bags but they are synthetic -they won't even accept bleach! (Already bought 400 for a camp :-! )

What about tie-dying a large square of cotton fabric and gluing it as a panel to the bag? Any other ideas?

PS - These bags won't be washed, so could I use something cheaper to dye than a kit? Maybe watercolor paint? Thanks!

  • i wish i could help you more with it but i just dont really know what you could do, you could try paint, but i would use a fabric paint since watercolor could rinse off if say it were raining or something! its a really good idea though, to bad the bags dont take dye!

  • you are great. wooow one question, i bought the dye but its in like its powder state, so um i just mix it with water right? or do i mix the powder with the ash thing?

  • with water!

  • do you do the same thing if you wanted to tie sheets or curtains????

  • sure!

  • this videos awesome i follow it step by step and the results were amazing thanks a lot im even starting my own business selling this shirts theres nobody else selling them in my town so thanks again!!!!!!!!!

  • lol you sit the same way as i do

  • great video! do you know how to tie dye a peace sign onto a shirt? if so, you should make a video about it =)

  • hallo,,,good video !! do you know how to tie dye pants??

  • i'm inspired

    i shall tye dye EVERYTHING!!!

  • do u think it works the same with rit dye??

  • A great 'how to' video!

It was very thorough and your enthusiasm made it fun to watch (:

  • so, can I tye dye the tee shirt and leave the Disney picture untouched? Since I have never even tye dyed anything, I think I may be expecting to much, but you seem so knowledgeable, just maybe there is a way. Thanks for your video and for any advice you may have for me.

  • Thanks for the video; what did we ever do before YouTube lol. I have a question. We just got back from Disney, bought a bunch of Disney tee shirts, but of course we have a favorite. Well, the favorite got splashed with clorex and has a small white do, the shirt if ruined, so I was thinking, if I could tye dye it everywhere except the center of the shirt where the Micky pic is, I could save the shirt. Now I have never tye dyed anything, so your vid was so great. My question: Cont.

  • yes you can, just hold up the picture you want untouched and rubberband around it, then just tye dye the rest of the shirt!

  • OMG i showed my new tyedye shirt to everyone and then they tell me " how did you do that and i was like cacacarkeys showed me =]

  • sweet, i always see people with tye dye places and i'm like, i wonder if they watched my video?!! haha

  • best video yettt.

    thanks

  • i like the songs you use for the fast forward parts lol and thanks for the video! im going to wal-mart like right now to go get me some tie dye stuff =)

  • Thanks so much for this video. I really needed it. Can you do the same thing with a bed sheet...but add more swirls into it with rubber bands? Its for a costume...for my horse...were hippies!!! Thanks

  • hey, girl- is there any way of, like, tie dying your leg?? you're really really awesome.

  • THIS VIDEO HELPED ME SO MUCH! my shirt turned out amazing!!

  • long video.. but very understandable..

    sweet ideas too! :)

  • hey thanks so much! i just did my first ever load and i could not of done it without this video (and they truned out really cool). you are a good teacher to and thanks for explaing everything :)

  • Thank you!!! Having a 9 year old birthday party today, all hippie theme, and we are tie-dying. I had all the supplies, but still felt a bit uneasy on how to actually do it. Reading instructions just doesn't do it like a video. Can't wait to try your method this afternoon!!

  • I didn't use soda ash,What will happen?If I wash it later on,will the dye run out?

  • GREAT instructional video! I am going to send the link to Alpha Omicron Pi so they can watch before their next shirt painting. Thank you!!

  • I love the shirt you are wearing!

  • should you iron it to lock in the color?

  • your a babe I'd tear that shit up

  • so awesome thanks for upolding this

  • Thanks, now i know how to do it. Cheers...
