  • Kinda nice, but more like a transport/storage case rather than a go-kit. I prefer more the ammocan setup for FT-7800 by KB3KOC

  • offers. If you want to go the extra step to ensure protection of the radio then I would suggest making a second layer of metal (preferably aluminum) separated by a layer of non conducting material. I have the exact same box with a Yaesu ft-350 in it. But, this box alone doesn't protect it from super hemp (which china claims to have). Also to make connections easier buy some kc 259 connectors for quick connections. There is extensive testing done on emp- read up on it.

  • Grounding the ammo box is overkill and could expose the contents to emp and super hemp. Here is the reason, if your ground has any flaw in it, it will become an antenna that will absorb the pulse and cause a higher risk to the radio. Studies have proven that cars mostly made of metal resisted emp due to the rubber tires isolating the car from the ground. Yes, alot of cars will be damaged by emp no doubt. The military stores their ied charges in ammo cans because of the protection the sealed can

  • a lead outer lining on the box would resist the emp.

  • to survive a emp - the device has to be in a metal box that would reroute the pulse around the device inside -and the enclosure would have to be grounded -attach a heavy copper wire to bare metal and then to a cold water pipe in the basement - but make sure the copper wire is in full contact with bare clean metal at both ends -also i have heard that microwave ovens are essentially a Faraday enclosure -but must be grounded to cold water pipe

  • be aware of heat while inside the metal container.

  • Regarding EMP, the pulse from a Sun activity would induce high currents in long wires so electronics should be fine, but if youre worried then that metal box, with the item not touching the metal inside (insulated from the case) would be fine. In a Nuke EMP then depending on your proximity, it could wipe out electronic debvices, and in fact is designed to do so.

Faraday cage is a metal mesh or box which is insulated from the contents.
