rob i hope you get this message . i learned all of cripple creek with my banjo but i do not know and can not fiqure out on my own the part where the high notes are where you go down the neck by the head then back up can you add that to you video that would be great .
@amcpowayea Sorry, I am without a good quality banjo again. My buddy loaned me his Liberty, but my Goodtime is all I have left, and it has a cracked neck. I can use it to teach my Skype lessons, but people are so critical on YouTube sometimes, I will not be recording videos with it to avoid the endless complaints about the slight wavering of pitch.
Seriously you are great at teaching on this thing. I agree with the others... YOU are the only one that teaches instead of just playing the tune. Much appreciation!
@melwal Most everybody has that problem. Arch the finger, so that the first digit points straight up, like a nail pounded into the fingerboard, not letting it lean off center, and remember, it can touch the 4th string a bit, because you aren't playing that yet.
Rob... I just need to clear something up please: If you're a right-handed player, are the ring and little fingers of the right hand ever used for plucking the strings? I notice sometimes when I lose concentration I use those two fingers for plucking, but is that wrong? Thanks. Andrew.
@ABWEndon Nothing is wrong. You can write your own book. I use them for down strokes a lot, but on this stuff, it helps to have picks, and stick to the thumb and 2 fingers.
Rob, thank you, thank you! I am actually taking banjo lessons and couldn't remember Cripple Creek by the time I got back home and I was so frustrated! You're explanations are awesome.
Dear Rob, Pablo here, I have always wanted to play the banjo, never had time. Now I do, and thank God I found you Sir! How do I get one on one lessons and do you have time???. Either way many thanx for posting these videos and God bless you and yours always.
I wonder if I am the first Cuban banjo player??? Best regards.
I'm glad that it works. I've taught banjo for almost 35 years, and I know how hard it is, and where the problems usually happen, so I have taken the risk of making a few people impatient, and slowed them down and provided small steps for the practice companion videos.
This is the best teaching technique I have seen .. at least for a 54yo beginner like me. It is nice and slow and NICE AND CLEAR!!! Thanks for taking such time to teach it meticulously! Maybe in a few months/years, those other guys' lessons will be more obvious to me!

I'll go over the program with you, and see if it works for you.
I love Cuban food. The music from Cuba in the 30s and 40s is great. Glad to help sir.

What kind of banjo is that?

That is a beat up, Goodtime banjo. I got the cheapest model they made. I don't play banjo much anymore, and can't justify having an expensive one.
It works fine.
