They may be US companies but they still design cars for the local market. The Mustang is built on the falcon floor pan, built here n shipped to US to fit the body to. They have to because Ford US dont have a decent RWD in production over there. Back in the 90's we exported Capri's to the US but they made sure that there was no Made In Australia anywhere on the car so the public thought that it was made in the US. Look up who owns Ford you will find it has several owners including Nissan.
