I love that bassoon soli!!! amazing. I played this my senior year in my wind emsemble, it was an arrangement but i loved it-and i love the story behind this piece.
@oishifunk Agreed. Watching him is inspiring me to pursue such awesomeness. I don't really have a god given talent for music but watching this just makes me want to achieve such thing.
Why does the video only show the conductor to the end. They could have panned the orchestra and some of the timpani section, The renedition is good otherwise
Playing an excerpt of this for All State audition, really nervous (freshman over here, first time going for All State High School...) but this piece is freaking awesome!!!
* spontaneously combusts from the awesomeness of the music *
To the knowledge of those who nored the bass trombone:
Micha Davis is the bass trombonist of the Israel Philharmonic, and conductor Noam Zur was a trombone student of his... Micha Davis can also be heared on
Ouch Trumpet at 4:43. Still, great piece and a great performance. Bassoons were absolutely FLAWLESS.
It's amazing how many different ways you can play one particular piece. Take the bassoon soli near the beginning for instance: Some people prefer to shorten the notes rather than elongate them while others prefer to have a little length to them. Amazing performance!
is anyone wildly distracted by the crazy bixch off by Noam's left elbow who is waving her arms starting at like 5:22 until the end. If i sat near her for such a performance i'd have stabbed her!
no...she's not a child...that would be somewhat understandable...i'd have stabbed her parents!
but shes a teenager acting like a fool...i'd be ashamed to even know her...
and ive been to Iraq and afghanistan...theyre really both nice. ecpecially when i make CRAZY bonuses from your tax money...i probably will go back soon!
great bass trombone solo.i play this week berlioz with our philarmonik.bass trombone is awesome.great solo man also and God bless Israel and all gospel people.i pray for all of you.peace and see you when Jesus is comming in His glory
Funny how after seeing this video around two years ago I started learning conducting (and couldn't wait to do so), two years later I have -criticisms- about this.
He sure is a great conductor. Measurable to the standards of this time: Mariss Jansons, Bernard Haitink...
What do you guys think about the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra being voted no. 1 by Gramophone magazine? Personally I agree, they belong at the top of the list.
I loved the piece itself but the audience is very entertaining as well with the "dying girl" and the "guest conductor" (lol) in the audience as well around 5:20
Hail to the dying girl! But what about her colleague on the conductor's other side - one dies at 5:20 while the other starts conducting... she really goes crazy near the end. Wicked sisters...
the conductor in this song is extremely precise and broad in all his motions. it would be really easy to follow this guy...if only my conductor was easy to follow...
Played this in 10th grade in NY school of orchestral studies, along with the 5th movement, Tchaikovsky's 6th, schuberts 8th, and alot more great stuff.
I much prefer the crisp, stressed style here to some of the "soft" variations out there... bring out those low, soulful strings! The slight blare on trumpets on the first fanfare is the only flaw that stings in an otherwise very stand up performance.
while i agree with most of your sentiments the opening theme is a bit too stressed in my opinion. cutting off one of the main embellishments off. however this is a rather unique interpretation overall so i'll let it go. and i noticed the frackin trumpets naer the beginning hard to excuse.
Great conducting. I love how you show ahead exactly what you want and shape the music. I just saw Dutoit do this with the Verbier Festival orchestra, and it was the performance of a lifetime, but this also sounds fantastic. Bravo!
Well.. Hi`s high professional. Hi`s conducted by heart, cool)) But in Russian school it`s forbidden to put your right hand down.. Nevertheless, it`s very emotional, earnestly and show-looking. I like it. Sorry for my bad English.
usually, the repeat (2:10) is not done anymore, because of the program: the artist is marching to the guillotine, so it wouldn't make sense him to march all the way through again. As they're not performing the whole symphony, that's ok.
Love Berlioz, he's the only one that can pair Beethoven as a symphonist!
