  • I was an eleven year-old girl who loved Bernardini with all her heart in 2006. Needless to say, I cried when Invasor beat him. Not to mention that I was already torn up about Pine Island.

  • Ghostzapper would have crushed every horse in this field, he would have won by 5.

  • Invasor would have been very tough to beat on this day. He was moving like a train getting up to top speed....too much momentum.

  • Shiiiiiittt....Afleet Alex would have CRUSHED this field.

  • Indeed a very nice field agreed.

  • Best field in the Classic EVER...my opinion!

  • @gunloc26 Now imagine Afleet Alex in that field and imagine what he would have done to them in the homestretch.

  • Castellano moved Bernardini with a half mile to go.

Well timed run; Bernardini just lost to the better horse on the day.

  • Castellano moved Bernardi way too early in this race. He has had a lot of excuses for doing this. I think it cost bernardini the race.

  • just barbaro missing in it..

  • @queenluciaa I'm just watching this race for the first time in ages, and wow, that field was amazing. I wish the Breeders Cup could duplicate that every year. Wow.

  • Stacked field.

  • I don't know if he would have beaten him or not, both were awesome though.

  • Javier Castellano had taken a very bad spill on a mount earlier on Breeders Cup day, and was admittedly not 100% aboard Bernardini in this race. Castellano later said he was very "woosy", and made a move with Bernardini too early in the Classic. Which he, and I both believe cost Bernardini the Breeders Cup Classic to Invasor. This would ultimately be Bernardini's only lifetime defeat. He has become a fantastic sire. The European's are buying up all of his 2yr.old prospects at breakneck speed.

  • @GBeret83 Bernardini lost twice in his career, not once.

  • There were good races at his 06 rendition for sure, but I was disappointed at the number of breakdowns at Churchill this year. In this one there was David Junior, and who could forget the TWO in the Distaff, Pine Island's fatal fall, and Fleet Indian pulled up at the turn. I hope it doesn't play like this this year at Churchill for the 2010 rendition, at least on the Dirt races, the turf is fine but I'm hoping no great horses get injured this year

  • Probably the BEST field of horses you will ever see in a race! Truly a CLASSIC!!!

  • Bernardini's jockey moved too early..... but there's no shame losing to Invasor, he became a monster of a runner.....

  • I couldn't of asked for a better field in this race, but i couldn't stand Bernardini because of the whole Barbaro incident. =(

  • amazing race amazing horses! no one can ask for more. in a field like this who ever wins really had to fight to win because of his competition.

  • Seriously do we have to have negative comments like that jfurry. He was a very good horse.

  • This was a good race.. Bernadini had never raced in a big field like this..

  • Bernardini was a fraud all the way. it was really a bad BC cause of like 50 breakdowns during the day.

  • Bernadini simply made his move too early. If hey did it again he would beat invasor

  • This was a solid field.Bernardini was drawing comparisons to Ghostzapper, Lava Man had won 7 in a row, Premium Tap was rounding into his best form and Brother Derek, Perfect Drift, David Junior, George Wahington, and Giacomo were all grade 1 winners. After facing small fields and slow paces, Bernardini was hampered by the quick early pace and the conjestion around the turn. Invasor,an international warrior, was ready to take advantage and was a deserving winner. His 4th of 6 straight grade 1 wins.
