It's chrome base with color coating that looks like gold.

What type/color of paint/coating did you use? My son has been asking for a gold McQueen for Christmas, and I am thinking of painting one for him. Thanks.

The body is electro chrome plated. I tried chrome killer ($100 kit) and similar chrome paints but none of them works as advertised. You will be disappointed as I had. I send my McQueens to a factory and have them plated for me. It was a one time shot too, since then, I have not been able to find anyone to do it with a reasonable price. Look up ebay and you will see some that I am selling. Search for Pixar Custom.
