  • I always thought Cole was Scottish apparently he's English

  • Slithers its way into your mind and rattles away in the jukebox of your mind. Just brilliant.

  • first band i ever loved......takes me back to when i was 14

  • @frenchy99555 hi this is Agnes I used to sit in front of you in class. I'm so sorry for those awful farts. It was my mom who used to feed me boiled eggs for breakfast with baked beans every morning.

  • One of the best singers ever to come outta the U.K.........brilliant lyrics .......pure class ..........he can say more in one line than some of these so-called popstars can say in an entire song .Sums up a mood , feeling , or thought in an instant ......genius !!!![ and the m/fer was good - looking as well .......some guys have all the luck ...quote fae rod stewart

  • lindas canções!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ES UNA LASTIMA Q EN MI PAIS NUNCA LA DIERAN A CONOCER...MAS DESDE EL PRIMER MOMENTO,DESDE LOS PRIMEROS ACORDES YA NOTE Q ERA UN CLASICO,UN TEMA EXELENTE., UN TEMA PARA SOÑAR....

  • Probably my favourite song, as it has been for over 20 years.

  • I remember as a little kid my older brother always having music on in his car with this guy with such a distinctive voice.... Finally i found it and it still sounds so amazing.. Now the passengers in my car get treated to it.

  • been my favourite song since i was little. i'm a 13 year old girl and i would much rather listen to this than the chart shit my friends listen to!

  • De hecho,ni siquiera habia leido nada de Simone de Beauvoir.

    Lloid Cole.1990

  • More than 20 years have passed and still one of my favourite songs ever.

  • One of my all time fave songs from high school, love

  • I always thought this was a song that was made to be played in a convertible with the top down, driving down the freeway on a sunny day

  • Must you tell me all your secrets when it's hard enough to love you knowing nothing...

  • Happy (well, mixed) memory lane :)

  • I love this version <3 its the only one I know and want to know ^^

  • Heard the Tori Amos version first.

Came looking for this one afterwards.

    No wonder she covered it.

  • And to think he was berated by his peers in the '80's for being too 'wordy'!! If you like this, you'll love the Rattlesnakes and Mainstream albums! I got them when they came out in the early '80s and love him to bits!! Good stuff!

  • I was the cinema in 1984, can't remember what film I was watching, but I remember they used to play videos before the movie came on. This track came on, fantastic track, the video was atmospheric too. Couldn't find it though. Great song, reminds me of my youth once more.

  • an elegant band

  • I heard Tori Amos' version and then the original. The lyrics really caught me though. Great song.

  • So many memories. Very underated but a soundtrack to my formative years. I can see why I got into 10,000 Maniacs.

  • Saw him live (again) earlier this year at the Fruitmarket in Glasgow - fantastic

  • Happy birthday, Lloyd!

  • I had only ever heard the Tori Amos cover! Now I'm impressed....

  • 25 in 1984 and living in the heart of London and studying at Film and theatre School, we were young with all the time in the world and anything seemed possible, now there is little time left and still so much to see, feel, and experience, when alls said and done what is life but the echo of wonderful memories past..............................

  • remember this song so so well........... I would do anything to go back to my childhood in the 80's

  • @LeighA1980 me too!!!

  • Sound like The The.

  • I love this tune...

It kinda has a tragic feel to it, nice though !

  • @HitchHikersBlues oh! yes!

  • The Jam - The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had To Swallow) ; )

  • @HitchHikersBlues I fail to see how that has any relevance to this song. Not to mention that it's utter rubbish and in no way comparable.

  • @InternationalConnect : I fail to see what relevance you have to this page...Clown.

  • cracked up when ya full tilt, with 4 others up the Hume 31.,,,,keep the nose lube ya hume runners like we did........

  • if only!

  • There's not enough of Lloyd Cole.

  • another classic, saw him at tartan heart festival a couple of years ago, has actually improved with age, wouldnt have thought it possible!

  • A mate of mine gave me a tape, with Joy Division Closer on one side and he didn't know who was the band on the other side, I love Joy Division and always will do, but this song is something else, all the trendy kids in sixth form (before I was expelled) loved Lloyd Cole, for that reason I was always biased against them, but this is superb.

  • ...e questo non a meno sempre dagli edonistici anni 80

  • this single was on high rotation on dutch radio back in 84.

  • @L3O1994 yes the LP was that, I have it on vinyl ... I'm assuming this is the single

  • @L3O1994 that was the artwork for the lp this must be the single cover

  • Memories of college in Boston in the mid-1980s.

  • What a great song Rattlesnakes just heard it in the background of a tv programme

and I had to find it ..thank you Lloyd Cole and not forgetting the famous Commotions

and you IndieAnnieJones for posting ..top marks

  • @hungryherbie Hearing it on Ashes to Ashes made me look it up again.

  • I love the lyrics & the instrumentals - I love the beginning especially when the melody seems to sigh.........It builds up to something then just falls off - & Lloyd Cole's voice is just perfection for this song. This seeming anguish. Have always loved this song. And am learning more & more as I return to it now I'm older.

  • Love it, went to see them in Glasgow around 1987, mum cracked up as was supposed to go gran's birthday party, so glad I went.

  • I adore this song! Love it soo much. It reminds me of a cool guy in a smokey 'alternative' bar. We drank, we talked, we kissed! LOL I was only 18!

  • one of me favs, cheers, totally agree with smackloons( :

  • He was a hip dude back then. Wrote some great songs and were a very good live band. Used to live next door to my mate in Derbyshire as a child. Behind the facade of a misery guts that almost rivalled Morrisey seemed to be a deep thinker. Wish there was such a band about now....

  • CLASSIC;;;; THANKS

  • bloody hell, this takes me back, but still sounds fresh today

  • Skiing on Mt Ruapehu, a few tequilas after and listeing to this song, takes me 20 years back

  • Love the 80`s

    *****

  • I remember this album back in 1984 as a 17 year old. It sounds even better now in my early 40s. Lloyd Cole and his then bad have to be one of the greatest rock bands ever...and I don't say that lightly

  • tip-top tune...from the grumpy old sod himself.

  • where do you live?

  • this track was a fav of the first girl I ever truley loved

    It always breaks me down

if you ever want to kick my head in and rob me play this first after that it will be a piece of piss hahahah

  • No one best hurt the MouseMan!!

  • kiss kiss kiss TA!

nice to no you have my back !!

went to see this guy with her in brighton and his performance was just great, we had loads of drinks when we got home mine wasn't hahahaha

  • This may have been my first ever "favorite song".

  • I love the way Lloyd Cole's songs can sound so upbeat yet carry so much worldly sadness under the surface. Amazing songwriter, very underappreciated imho.

  • @SmackLoons

    Sooo true.

  • top song top band. oh the mid eighties what a time I had!

  • Top band top tune. Weren't the eighties great?

  • @SmackLoons : He's a Poet in the truest sense i think !

  • This song is a slice of heaven...

  • This song makes me smile..

  • A true classic.
