  • This is a Van Morrison song. I had no idea all these years.

  • patti put a stone on

  • naturally the original version Them is the greatest

  • Great song

  • All I can say, breathe is FUCK YEAH! Thanks for uploading.

  • Well done! I like the scratched film effect. It reminds me of the decades that have passed since this song was released.

  • Patti Smith, you're napalm.

  • I don't know, I trying fucking the clock but I got my thing caught in the gears, I'm not trying that anymore.

  • She's not trying to be Lou Reed or any other man. She's being she. The one and only. No one compares.

  • she's trying to be lou reed in this song, know?

  • Does anybody know what "fuck the clock" on her t shirt means?

  • @BBBananas1120 Having met her at the Jim Carroll --someone else you should check out-- memorial in St. Marks in the Bowery, NY, in Feb-2010, and having read her book "Just Kids" I take it to mean that she's been doing her thing, her arts (visual, verbal, musical) for over 40 years whenever & however she pleased. And no frigging clock or calendar will tell her when or how to do her thing. I send copies of that very photo to friends on their "traumatic" birthdays: 30, 40, 50, etc.

  • So uninhibited...so spontaneous...so Patti!

  • Patti was, is and will be great!!!! forever.

  • patti i facking love you

  • this is a perfect song about love

  • Lady Gaga HAHAHAHA.. Marco from PAVIA ITALY

  • To this day Patti is still the coolest woman in music. The only version of Gloria I listen to more than once a year.

  • @Tuzotonic Think, you need to krank THAT up a bit, perhaps once a day???...lol

  • I got this crazy feeling that I'm gonna uh uh make her mine woah put my spell on her!

  • pattis a fucking bad ass

  • pattis a fucken bad ass

  • jesus died for somebodys sins but not mine

  • Van wrote it...but best version is by The Shadows of Knight band from Chicago in 1964.

  • wait a sec! so how many artists have a claim to gloria? van, doors and patti. whats the story of this song??

  • @aktake2

The only person that has a "claim" to Gloria is Van Morrison who wrote it in 1964.

It has been covered by dozens of artists over the years - and probably by hundreds of "unknown" bands.

For me, a couple of the best versions are Jimi Hendrix and Eddie and the Hot Rods.

    Cheers.

  • So glad my mom showed me this wonderful woman!

  • G-L-O-R-iyiyiyiyiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii -- G-L-O-R-I-A!!!

  • "un clasico del punk de los 70"

  • Words escape me...Patti made it all her own.

  • Patti makes another good version!

  • beachdog67: ok, thank you. I thought it was the Dor's song because they made a version o this song. But, well, thank you.

  • I love you Patti your a true legend!

  • It's a Doors's song, no?

  • @hermy93150 No. "Them" (featuring Van Morrison). 1964.

  • @hermy93150 I loved The Doors version though.

  • @hathigmonorow Who the fuck is Johnny Thunders?

  • @dogofman If you don't know who Johnny Thunders was you should go back to school or else get a clue

  • @dogofman hahahahahahahahahah hah

  • @dogofman Im 37 years of age and I wasnt even alive when Johnny was. He was apart of The New York Dolls. They were a New York glam-punk band.

  • @hathigmonorow lol... if you read her auto biography " Just Kids" she stole it from Keith Richards... the hair cut is finally what got her the main table in the back of Masx's Kansas City... and she cut it herself much to the delight of Robert Maplethorpe

  • i love ! <3

  • What a great tune

  • MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  • @jessiecruz1 You are absolutely ignorant of Patti's defintion of Christ & the meaning behind the reference just like those unintelligent gits that took offence to "Rock & Roll Nigger"! In my opinion, little jessiecruz1, you can go ahead & pray for my "lost soul" lol bc in my never humble opinion Patti is Jesus, Mary & Joseph..the Holy trinity in my book! True music like this is a religious experience in it's own. lol I'm sure your God would agree & say "Lighten the F*CK UP!"

  • @jessiecruz1 You are a weak moron.

I have not advanced beyond the Ian Curtis dance, I used to be ashamed of that. But now I let my freak flag fly.

  • @sacredjimi bloop blorp plops blops wah wah wah. shake it off. no more anger-pooping. no need to be so mean. get down or get out. its that easy. i feel exhausted by all the vitriol on youtube.

  • que blink 182 ni que mis huevos!

    esto si es punk :D

  • dam and i liked the doors version but hey wtf search true riders united on google

  • loved it 28 years ago still love it now. , Engine

  • hot when patti says she's goona uh uh make HER mine.

  • chef d'oeuvre

cover de Them la plus reussie loin devant celle des Doors c'est tout dire

  • @jimbomania001 très bonne version et en voix féminine en prime...mais la folie du 'make me feel allright' hurlée par Morrison place la version des Doors en tête pour ma part

  • Love Patti's version, The Doors version was excellent too.

  • It IS a cover of the Van Morrisson song, but she adds so much that I think of it as a distinct (and even better) song.

  • gigantic talent in a small package

  • I am a music junkie and seen thousands of shows. I have no problem saying that this is the Greatest Rock and Roll song of all time. Not just for how it sounds but for how people in an audience respond to it. Rock On Sister ! ! !

  • Loved Patti when I was 12...still love her 30 years later!!

  • what can i say... Patti has a poetical mind of the kind that you just dont find anymore.

  • All versions are pretty awesome. I'm gona have to go with The Doors though.

  • @EvilDanzig In 1965 an Irish blues group called "Them" had a hit in USA with single of "Gloria". Singer Van Morrison. It was pretty radical for 1965 Top-40 radio.

  • patti is coming here! omg i can't wait to see her.

  • one of the few covers betterthn the originl,

  • This is without doubt the best song ever written and sung. Ever. Ever. Ever.

  • @MrsSixx79 Now wait a minute! Better than Under my Wheels by Alice Cooper, After Forever by Black Sabbath, Death Trip by the Stooges, August by Love?! Are you serious? Nah, can't be...

  • @MrsSixx79 i'm unable to disagree with you....

  • Greater than the original by Van Morrison (which was great), Patti Smith was and is a rare innovator - poet, performance artist, and rocker. Horses is a sublime album, and there isn't anything wrong with Radio Ethiopia and Easter. I saw her at the Reading Rock Festival in '78, she was amazing, and she encored with 'You Light Up My Life' and made it a real song. Many thanks for posting this.

  • maybe I would see her on the stage...one day ...

  • Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine.

  • Первая волна панка. почему ты так быстро ушла ? (((((( Г-Л-О-Р-И-Я

  • G-L-O-R-I-A gloria G-L-O-R-I.A gloria.

    I love u so, patti!

  • which is great

  • just great ! That song rythm growing , u feel like taking off

  • @archiloxos

if you like the song because of that, listen to the song "heroin" by the velvet underground

  • great photos accompanying the song!

  • I was locked up in the 70's, thru the 80's and into the 90's. I missed all of Patti Smith. Now it's all new to me and she's fantastic. Man!, life is good! Sorry I missed you Patti, the first time around, but now I'm one lucky man. Love, Pete Reeves

  • @StillPete yeh thts nice its reall7y gud to hear herrr

  • @StillPete Women cried themselves hysterical at her performances. When she gave a free poetry reading in Central Park on a very hot night in the early '90s, the atmosphere was electric. I took Jennifer Blowdryer and found myself biting playfully on some of her tattooes! Welcome to the Patti club. Also, she was very nice to her fans at the beginning, she was royalty to us but it was not easy for her.

  • @StillPete I remember the 70's everytime i hear Gloria ..... G L O R I A

  • @StillPete I was smashed most of the 70s and all of the 80s, but I remember patti

  • @StillPete Never too late to appreciate the genius!
