So i'm just getting into bon iver, but do the drummers play the same parts at the same time. And if so, could a more musically inclined person could tell me what this does for the sound.
@javorst It looks like the drummer on the right uses mallets while the one on the left uses regular drum sticks. On the toms it creates a deeper, kind of smoother tone which combined with the regular drum sticks makes a ridiculously powerful combination. I think the only time they play the same thing is on the toms, at least in this song
@javorst Their drum kits are mic'd up, and probably fed through different speakers. It's about the acoustics. This song has a lot of emphasis on the drums, so at a live show you'd want to make sure they're being heard the way they should be.
So this amazing group in KC the other night. What amazes is despite that they have more musicians on stage than what is typical for many rock/alternative/indie/pop band, each member still plays more than instrument, even in the same song! Godspeed to Justin Vernon and company for the rest of their tour.

As much as I love Vernon's falsetto, I like his regular voice better and I wish he utilizes it more. Either way, Bon Iver is still great.

@SpewHefner you have to change it to 1080p, and there's smoke and light effects all over the stage... don't be such a dildo.
