  • You can have the material tested for asbestos before you start if it is pre-1975 or so. My house is mid-90s s I'm not worried. This stuff is terrible! Whoever thought it looked good? You can't paint it and it you paint the walls it relaly difficult to not get it n the ceiling. I really want to remove mine but it looks like a huge messy project, especially since one of my ceilings is vaulted.

  • who gives a shit about asbestos.. were all gonna die eventually... have a nice day

  • Well its good to see this dude wares safety glasses but what about this lungs, Yeah, i know he spray water, but this stuff is a killer just ask Paul Newman he work in ship yards as a 19 old. He dead now, asbestosis,50 years later...

  • just had mine tested and to my suprise it contained no abestos! My house was contructed in 1957

  • This was actually good for me to see because now I have a good idea of what to expect when I take over the Grandparent's house and try to get this stuff off every single ceiling in the house. Respirator would be good though, cause that house was definitely built before '76

  • I work in asbestos abatement and all of the other environmentals. I will say that I have never encountered popcorn textured ceilings that did not contain asbestos. The whole point of these type of ceiling is acoustic decoupling. In order for it to do this, it must be relatively hollow. Asbo is used as the binding agent to hold this mostly hollow and loose material together. Since there were no other materials that did this as well as asbo, true popcorn ceilings disappeared after the ban.

  • Honestly, how hard is it to wear a $30 respirator during such procedures??

You don't know what the hell that's made of!

  • this is a second video on youtube where people don't wear any masks while having some popcorn. ayayayay

  • You do know if you had it tested. So perhaps a disclaimer would be good to tell people to test first.

  • It will take 10 to 50 years to know if it was asbestos. That is how long it take from time of exposure to the onset of illness. Please get the material tested before you start the job. Contact the Johnny O. Perea Foundation for free information. Asbestos is no joke. It is still used in construction and it is still a killer. I lost my father to mesothelioma. Good luck and God bless...

  • Dude, wear a respirator! Wow!

  • OK lets pretent you have no clue.. respirable quartz silica is a catagorie one carcinogen. Step in front of the bus. some people have no clue. When people watch this they have no idea what it contains. Its only common sense to wear a respirator. By the way the ban on the asbestos ban phase out (EPA) was over ruled in 1991 and even though there still remains a ban on the application of sprayed on or troweled on material, lets ask the victims dying in new york of asbestosis??

    thanks

  • I know people are trying to do things to save money but to do this without a respirator or personal protective clothing on I just don't see the point. Asbestos kills.

  • No shiznit shirlock. Anything post 76 in our city is non asbestos. Thanks for the concern though. BTW, cancer causing elements are everwhere. Hot dogs, paint, MANY THINGS can cause it....

  • You may be interested to learn that asbestos is still legal to use in the US and many other countries. If you think buildings built post 76 are asbestos free, I would encourage you to read the Environmental Protection Agencies 1999 Clarification of the bans. This stuff is avoidable if people know it is there, but most folks like you think it was banned. Take a class!

  • what type of tool was that guy using? it left it so smooth. we're getting ready to try this ourselves on our house, should we wet it first?

    Thanks.

  • A 50 cent plastic scraper. Wet it first with hose & nozzle on mist and it comes down like butter...

  • Get it pretty wet...garden sprayer is good..spray it once and then go over it again...place down a plastic 4mil or better drop cloth on the floor and wet it also..idea is to keep it dust fre.wear a mask. get the wet material into a plastic contractors sack asap while still wet..take a wet towel and clean walls\top of trim etc immediately while still wet..wear plastic gloves..painters hood..eye protection and a paper painters suit...it comes off real easy..use an 8-10 inch spackle blade..

  • ASBESTOS!!!! Illegal to remove unless ur a licesed & trained contractor!!!! ASBESTOS!! KILLS

  • most laws only apply to commercial property (at least thats how it is in texas) so if this was residential, no laws were broken.

  • Home owners may be exempt from some protocols, such as possessing a license to conduct asbestos inspections and abatements in their home. However, proper abatement procedures and waste disposal considerations DO apply for home owners. Better to hire a professional.

  • Where's your p100 respirator? Anything pre 1980 (banned 1978) may conatin asbestos. Did you have a sample tested? Why take a risk?

  • why the small trowell, we use pole scrapers and mask the room

  • at PopcornRemoval dot com ... we remove the popcorn and replace it with knockdown texture or smooth finish in homes that are fully furnished with basicly no mess. you can also call us direct at 954-341-1114. Keep in mind that if you decide on knockdown texture we can more than likely execute the job in one day versus if you choose smooth ceilings its alot mor money and we nned the home (unoccupied) for four days.

  • this is way too much work. call the experts at PopcornRemoval dot com... they do it dirt cheap.

  • What about the asbestos risk from the popcorn ceiling?

  • Anything post 1975 more than likely does not have asbestos.

  • @doslenguas that is not true. Anything in the 70s should be presumed to be an ACM. Holy shit.

  • The amount of asbestos you might inhale from occasionally exposure is no big deal. Still the best way to remove popcorn is to first wet it with water and vinegar it comes off in sheets almost by itself with almost no airborne dust.

  • Says who??? I never recall being around asbestos, yet I have mesothelioma which is caused by asbestos. It takes 20 years to effect your lungs then it is very aggressive and very fast. I am a 32 year old women.

  • Of course yr right I was talking out my ignorant ass. I am sorry to hear about your condition.

  • boy that works great if you dont have a room full of furniture

  • Amen!
