We had this entire stage tethered to the ground at 8 points. If they had done that it never could have fallen.

I can't believe there is already people saying Sugarland is responsible. The band, like you said has nothing to do with the stage construction. It will most likely be investigated how the stage was constructed. But if you read recent reports, the fairgrounds were already planning to evacuate when tragedy struck. I am sickened by the responses I have seen on this video and others. Free speech or not, it's not right to disrespect fellow human beings pain and suffering.
The idea that people should not post video of this tragedy is ludicrous. So it's OK for multinational, multi-billion dollar corporations to report this story, but not for a youtube user? How silly.
Many unanswered questions about what happened still remain. However, my gut reaction is that the collapse never should have happened. Nothing short of a hurricane should have brought down that stage. I predict that the company that built up the state will face many fines and lawsuits.

Its not from the lack of structural integrity lack of out rigging, anchoring, or corner cutting... when a high wind comes up against a structure like this, the Tarps and roof become sails. and the rigged supports snap and twist from the extreme energy.. winds was a means of transportation... huge sailing vessels were carried for thousands of miles across the ocean.. many ships capsised and sunk.....

Just looking at the top of the stage you can see the massive weight involved as the stage came down which to a novice looks like the top was way too heavy to be supported by those small beams that looked like only about 12 around the whole stage. These things are not designed for windy conditions. Perhaps there should be a law passed that the show must cease if a storm is in the area!

There's a guy with a bunch of trucks with interchangeable steel pieces, some specifications of what the client wants built, and a bunch of people to build it. The client usually sees the stage being put together, or the end result, and will find something about the design that looked better on paper than it does in real life, and he will make several major structural changes
I was there at the state fair. There was very little warning of the storm. It was a beautiful day. My family and I were enjoying an ice cream soda not less thn 1/4 mile from the bandstand. we looked up saw a line of dark clouds approaching from the northwest. We looked up a minute later and my daughter said "that cloud is growing exponentially we better go." We hopped on a shuttle by the time the shuttle made it round to the other side of the track the storm hit.

I can't believe there is already people saying Sugarland is responsible. The band, like you said has nothing to do with the stage construction. It will most likely be investigated how the stage was constructed. But if you read recent reports, the fairgrounds were already planning to evacuate when tragedy struck. Many unanswered questions about what happened still remain. However, my gut reaction is that the collapse never should have happened. Nothing short of a hurricane should have brought down that stage. I predict that the company that built up the state will face many fines and lawsuits.

The gusts did not exceed the force of a hurricane, since a hurricane=sustained wind of > or = 74MPH. If it is > 74MPH, it is still a hurricane (not a force which exceeds it). Secondly, speed and force and not the same thing. Force has other variables such as atmospheric pressure. A wind of X MPH does not equal a given amount of force. Finally, momentary force is not the same as cumulative force. All these factors are relevant. Hence, no hurricane, no collapse should have happened.

Its not from the lack of structural integrity lack of out rigging, anchoring, or corner cutting... when a high wind comes up against a structure like this, the Tarps and roof become sails. and the rigged supports snap and twist from the extreme energy.. winds was a means of transportation... huge sailing vessels were carried for thousands of miles across the ocean.. many ships capsised and sunk.....

Just looking at the top of the stage you can see the massive weight involved as the stage came down which to a novice looks like the top was way too heavy to be supported by those small beams that looked like only about 12 around the whole stage. These things are not designed for windy conditions. Perhaps there should be a law passed that the show must cease if a storm is in the area!

No, not an act of god, it was an act of human incompetence. There is no complex engineering involved in building these. There's a guy with a bunch of trucks with interchangeable steel pieces, some specifications of what the client wants built, and a bunch of people to build it. The client usually sees the stage being put together, or the end result, and will find something about the design that looked better on paper than it does in real life, and he will make several major structural changes
