Pine Valley did alot over the years. It dealt with Homophobia, AIDS, Anorexia, Racism, Special Needs People, Homosexuality, Lesbianism, The First Gay Marriage On TV, Sexual Harassment, Corporate Fraud, amongst other things.
When I saw the beginning of this to 1:35 I knew it wouldn't be like the other anniversary shows AMC have done in the past, so I didn't watch. Way too much focus and input from new characters instead of indulging in the shows rich history and memorable characters and storylines. I know shows like to cater to younger viewers because its an important demographic group, but still.. for older viewers like me, it just wasn't good.
Best town in America... Pine Valley?! A town that's home to deranged psychopaths, kidnappers, a guy who was trying to teach his son a lesson by killing all the females around him, and a woman who decapitated her dead husband and put his head in the freeezer.... They put a sign up that says "Pine Valley... Enter at you own risk..."
This tribute show was good, but not GREAT. There were WAAAY too many new characters (Madison, Marissa, Brot!) and not enough focus on the TRULY great storylines from the 70s like Ruth's protest against the Vietnam war. I guess that's because it was written by Charles Pratt---AMC's WORST head writer EVER!!!!!!!
Angie & Jesse. The Male/Female Jackie Robinson of Soaps who kicked the door open for other African American Soap Couples like Gilly/Hamp Kat/David Marcus/Dahlia (Guiding Light), not to mention Neil/Drucilla Y & R.

Yes, Julia Barr is coming back for a short story arc. She returns in late February. Also, Cady McClain is returning later this year as Dixie. It's unclear if Dixie will be alive or will be a ghost.
"Short story arc"... wish it were a contract... but I'll take what I can GET! AMC has been so piss-poor quality lately that ANYTHING in the right direction (ie: putting Opal back on contract) will keep me tuning in.
They recently announced a new set of head writers, so I am sure the show has no way to go but UP.....It can't possibly get worse than it's been over the past two years.
It was a great episode, watched it earlier. Wish there were more flashbacks, but it was great nonetheless. Looking forward to a better year for AMC...

Brooke didn't die. She moved to China to be near her daughter Laura. She's actually returning to the show for a few months starting on the 23rd.

James Mitchell was 89....and probably in poor health during the taping. He passed away not too long after this. RIP, James Mitchell.

Does anyone know what buiding "Chandler Enter." actually was? Supposedly they used "Wayne Manor" from "Batman" as exteriors for the Cortland mansion.
I have watched AMC since 1979. (very loyal fan in the 1980's and early 1990's but now only catch it once in a while).
Speaking of Batman I don't like Catwoman playing Mrs. MArtin (Tad's adoptive mother, right?)!
