This guy is the one who is illogical. The actual successes have been achieved with adult stem cells, while embryonic stem cells have a host of risks and side-effects. A rational approach is to fund adult stem cell research, which has achieved desirable medical results.
This guys arguments are terrible. I'm all for federal funding of embryonic stem cells but this guy is misleading on his opponents positions and he is misleading to his viewers as well. i hate it when creationists do this, and i hate it when this guy does it.
"Fibber" Magee, I say. ALL PRO-LIFE Senators VOTED FOR this procedure (S.30); DEMS VOTED AGAINST it. Bush issued Executive Order #13435 to get this through because the Dems. wouldn't bring to a vote. Seems a bit onsided. "Shouldn't the embryos be ALLOWED ..." although I agree w/this process I DO think the 3 day embryo is too young to consent - and twinning can occur until day 14, but can happen at this stage. Not very informed there, "Fibber".
its important to remember that religion is baseless superstition, determined arbitrarily by the time and place of the birth of gullible children. "prolife" really means "forced birth of all embryos." if they were really pro-life, meaning for the quality of human life, theyd be green atheist socialist peace activists, or atleast secular humanists.
how can he say its not harmed when there are three things that happen to the embryo (two of which result in it being destroyed)
he says "shouldnt they be allowed to contribute to research?"
suuuure, shudnt u give me all ur money? it wud really help me out. shudnt i enroll u on army duty in Iraq without ur sayso? its ok, i'll ask ur parents! cuz they can decide ur life for u! (going by your rationale)
i am stunned-i dont believe how this man argued his place. witness - 2,000 over ten years. how many embryos were lost - doesnt say. "mom i got 10 questions right today"
You may be right on the first part, but it's adult stemcells and cord blood cells that will do it. The fetal ones are failing in testing around the world. I'm tempted by pragmatic approach too but still think it's a bad means to attempt a good end. P.S. I live in 5 years Europe and they debate this stuff too albeit not like US!
But how many thousands of embryoes are destroyed trying to perfect this technology to extract one cell of the 8 cell blastocyst or blastomere? IVF is wrong b/c kids should be loved into existance through sex, not a procedure in a petry dish. The other problem is the concept of "designer children" Take a cell out test it, if we don't like it, kill it and try, try again. Ridiculous. Magee's attitude is if it can be done, do it, forget the philosophical, ethical and religious dimensions.
It will be done, even if you don't agree with it. If it doesn't happen in the US it will happen in Europe which has none of these "moral" issues. Stem cells will revolutionize medicine, nothing shorter of the computer's impact. Try to understand that it's like preventing a tide: either the US will build a wall that will get crushed or gets a surf board. When people overseas start getting cured of fatal diseases, see how long the "moral" standards will last after that.
Allright when you christians are about to die, pray...
We people with sense, will use medical advances...
Let's see who lives longer... To the finnish line!...

I agree with crunt, can't we just let people die, death is part of life, diseases happen, we have enough useless elderly vegtables lying around.
At some point we are going to have to draw the line or we will be living forever.
