sister, assuming you're a sister, blood donation on ashura in the west is not a form of mourning. Besides there being no current blood shortage in america, Ashura should be spent only mourning Mola Hussain (as) and his companions. These people who self flaggelate themselves are making a covenant with Bibi Fatima (as) that they too will shed their blood like Hz. Habib, Hz. Jon, Hz. Hur, and Mola Hussain's (as) family members did in order to protect Mola Hussain (as), and islam.

unless the blood donated on ashura is made in a third world country, where there is a blood shortage, and people are not accustomed to receiving adequate blood types, then donating blood on ashura is permitted as a sign of mourning.. But what these brothers, and many other brothers around the world, are shedding their blood on the ground the same way our thirsty imam (as) had his shed inorder to save the identity of Allah (Swt). Please refrain from using insensitive words like, "wasting"
