Magothy River & Cypress Creek Sewage Spill Continues 5-26-10

ouch. Walked down to Cypress Creek this afternoon. Clumps of sea grass floating on the surface. Manhattan Beach community is working with county on Cypress Road Beach reclamation project. Digging up asphalt, planting some plants. Good idea to filter runoff from reaching Cypress Creek and Magothy River. Problem is - sewage spill is likely order of magnitude more damaging to bay ecosystem than runoff water!

Walked down to the water on Cypress Creek this evening. Water is a murky brown and there are clumps of sea grass floating on the surface. Ironic that the community and county are working on "Cypress Road Beach Reclamation" project this weekend. Dig up some asphalt. Plant some foliage. Good idea to let surface water filter before it hits the river. These sewage spills are order of magnitude more damaging to the bay ecosystem them some runoff....

I forgot to add thank you for the video, the county should have be on this before the filming. Monitoring alarms???? Not so good. Capital states he did call, but public works denies getting it. The State will fine the county, so we taxpayers get hit twice. Unacceptable

There have been 4 (5 counting this one) effecting Cypress Creek. There are supposed to be monitors at each station. I spoke with public works and was reassured, but this is just wrong. growing oysters, rain barrels even picking up after the dog, does not do......, when periodically ones of thousand of gallons of raw sewage flow into the creeks. This system's monitoring is inadequate.

You have nothing better to do than take videos of stupid shit. What the hell does Leopold have anything to do with it? Get the facts straight it wasn't even continued it was two totally seprate spills. How is Leopold responsable for it?By the way, did you call in to report it right away, or did you waste time getting your camera ready? It shows how concerned you are about the rivers! Sounds like someone is jealouis or perhaps other motives?
