Hui Mea Kēia Jalapino777 lawelawe I kēia manawa? by the looks of it alot of ppoz are not liking your comment! the beat is just had been uplifted to modernlized but the words are somewhat purely hawaiian jus over time the hawaiian language been changed by the haole to make it more understanding the language then are closely to tahitian and samoa.. remember this is not a song its an Oli (chant) kanono the instrumental of the Ipu!! this chant are danced by the kane! or female i prefer the men!!!!
Could someone please give me a translation to this song? I'd like to do a dance to it but I would like the dance to correspond with the lyrics as closely as possible... Thank you!
@ JalaPino... Kumu Mark is great. Just keep on step'n wit ur haolefied-Pino self. U know u not true Hawaiian right Pino, so no need to talk trash. Kumu Mark, u still da bomb. 'loha ia oe.
Wow! this is just so cool! Gotta love youtube for exploring :-) Oh and I am Welsh, so I have no idea about any of the language, but with a fine tradition for music in our country, I'd dare to say that this is stunning! Loving my virutal tour of Hawaii tonight too - I've met braddah Iz and Keali'i Reichel so far - you guys should be really proud :-)
Haolefied? Lol, at least the guy still knows Hawaiian. You wouldn't believe how many Hawaiians don't. There are different Hawaiian accents and some have English as a first language and learned Hawaiian later despite actually being Hawaiian so obviously you have a different accent then, too.
In light of what transpired in earlier posts, I just want to say that your name is spelled wrong. The correct spelling is Jalapeno with an accent over the letter "n", the letter "i" should be the letter "e", and the letter "j" is supposed to be pronounced like the letter "h". So now that we realize that we are all not perfect, do you suppose that we can go back to enjoying music without your intense hatred of creative freedom? Open your heart & try a 4th grade class.
@Jalapino777 *LMAO* I don't agree or disagree with you. I respect your love for kahiko, but we now have reggae, country, rock, hip hop, blues, jazz, and so much more styles of music now because of that lil thing called creative freedom. Keep that Kahiko alive, but loosen up just a bit cuz the world is getting smaller. Malama pono...
well i am a manaleo so i know how hawaiian words sound and how they ar pronounesed, i am also hawaiian so believe me when i tell you its not haole its not, just like the hawaiian language it had different types of dialect.
@Jalapino777 well he is hawaiian and a kumu hula so the words will be right, his style is uniuqe unlike other halaus who all sound the same, how can you say that its haolefied? come on buddy if your Hawaiian why critisize
@waiau4 Because it sounds so mainlandish. He also pronounces words the wrong way Kalani is pronounced Ka-lun-e. I wish my 3rd grade Hawaiianna teacher was alive and still teaching.
@Jalapino777 haolefied? more like contemporary. the point is to make it sound more modern while still maintaining the traditional aspects. the chant is the same. the spirit is the same. but the sound is different. that's what makes his music unique. and yeah, he's hawaiian born and raised so of course the words and accent are correct. just because it's not 100% traditional doesn't mean it's "haolefied". there's nothing wrong with mixing the old with the new. :/
@ABATAYO808 try huapala.org and click on chants or click on songs, whichever you prefer. They are listed alphabetically, but not every song/oli is on there.

This is wack... Very Haolefied. It has a more mainland hip-hop style to it. But surprisingly the accent and way the words are spoken is right.
