I got a chance to talk with the pilot of hawk 1 in Regina this past summer. He tells me the plane is made up of I believe he said a mk5 fuse and mk6 wing and is just a delight to fly. I love the sabre just the epitomy of flying a jet as opposed to strapping a rocket to your ass like a mig 21.
The previous owner was American and he had it painted in the markings of an American unit. This is commonplace in the warbird (vintage military aircraft) world. You might be pleased to know that it is now painted as an RCAF Golden Hawks aircraft and look beautiful!
@spitfiremark14 I once saw a picture of more than one Golden Hawk's aircraft cut in half and laying in a field somewhere in Ontario. What a pitiful sight it was:(
@westernstarguy When visiting Tucson AZ a few years ago, In one of the aircraft boneyards I saw a row of Sabre fuselages lined up with the wings and tails piled up behind them, they had to have been there for years. I was dying to tale one home and put it together, even if it was never to fly. It's sad that so much history can be simply discarded as scrap when especially in the case of the sabre, they can be made flyable and as far as w jet warbird goes, relatively affordable to use.

Bravo Golden Hawks. What a great aerobatic tea they once were. Good to see another Sabre put into the markings of the RCAF Golden Hawks.

Qustion Is there any other original golden hawks still around besides this one on display in a museum or did they get turned into scrap.

Question: If this is a "former RCAF Sabre 5", how come it has USAF markings?
