  • A very great pleasure . Thanks ...

  • another Classic Broonzy Number Great Picking many thanks

  • This was real blues not the EC shit

  • F*cking great... I never learned that way, but, be careful, there some missing notes... nevermind... sounds great, awesome...

  • Whoo! I was trying to pick that from your video. I think it might take a little bit to get that turn-around part - the slide from F up to C with the pinky and the thumb holding the bass note all while keeping the rhythm going is proving a challenge.

  • Awesome playing. Is that a Martin 000-28? If so, that's what Big Bill played!

  • @Gyphia David Pearse, recently died, and his finger picking tab book. It included this one, Candyman and Creole Bell and a fourth

  • @icespeckledhen The fourth tune was 'simple boy'..I ....those are the first 4 blues tunes I ever learned from that book and TV show. Fond memories of that show..got me started with guitar along with the earlier one he did on Folk guitar.

  • @ianmcgeachy I have just dug the book out, well worn I might say. You are quite right the other song was Single Boy, using Sam McGhee version. I hate to remind you but the first BBC programme was 12 January, 1969. I remember the programmes well. Incidently it was John Pearse and not David Pearse, as I previously said .

I have the other book he did on Folk guitar and I learnt some of those too, if not all.

    All those years ago. Thanks

  • @icespeckledhen Thanks for that date. It was important really, looking back, for me. I also got both those books..the Folk one first then the blues one. I remember learning 'clawhammer' esp'. Wish I could get copies of the books and also the TV series...for posetrity..on DVD maybe..(but its not to my knowledge). Apparently a few well known pickers started with John Pearses TV progs Matin Carthy I think is one. Shame he died...a bit younger than he should too...reminds us we're getting on eh?

  • good version. this should mean alot coming from somebody who also knows the song, and knows how hard you worked to get this down enough to play it for us. good job brother.

  • Absolutely amazing! There's the ghost of Big Bill in this room! So you live in communion with the music of Big Bill! It's wonderful. Thank you for this great happiness ...

  • excellent stuff man!

  • haha not at all even close to the song you titled it as but still sounds very good

  • great playing M:)

  • very masterful................

  • Great ! Is TAB available somewhere ?

  • Thats real good stuff

a bit of a broonzy mix but still a great shuffle

how can i learn that thumb technique

  • Tap your foot to the beat, and play the tune slowly, every time your foot falls, your thumb should hit the string. Give it about a week and it should start to feel natural.

  • Nice.........

  • There's nothing like old school acoustic folk blues.

  • sounds nothing like bill broonzy but nobbad

  • what the hell do you know about playing country blues, and big bill.

As to if an bill Used a Thumb pick well We may never know, I hve an old 45rpm EP from the 50's of him playing John Henery and He's Using a Flat pick on that ?

  • Good version! If I'd seen yours first I would have practised more before putting my own version up. Did BB use a thumbpick?

  • thanks..i think your version is good too. I'm quite sure that BB didn't use a thumbpick.

  • Great tune, love the real bluesy picking.

  • thats very enjoyable ddking66 :O

  • As usual... great performance! Broonzy's instrumentals are among my favourite guitar music for sheer rythymn alone... keep them coming!!
