  • fucking cover from a awesome fucking band...

  • After When We Pray, the second best of the album IMO. Love it

  • nice cover and i like sisters very much!!

    kisses.....xxx!

  • very impressed... pretty fucking good !!!

  • Not the original but great and powerful. My favourite cover-version of a Sisters of Mercy song. Just cannot sit still.

  • holy shit i just had an eargasm to the highest level!!!!

  • Warrel Dayne is Severus Snape of metal !!!

  • I love this cover!! Kick ass job Warrel !

  • I d like to see HIM make a cover of this song.

  • @alkalinetrio751

don't even think that about a warrel dane cover

  • @alkalinetrio751 and I'd like to kick you in the balls for suggesting such a concept, but we can't all get what we want now can we?

  • awesome

  • The reason I checked out Nevermore in the first place is because I saw a photo with one of them wearing a Bauhaus shirt .

I was so stoked to hear that Warrel covered this.

  • The original has a tad more sophistication... This chap is a bit melodramatic don't you think? *trolltrolltroll*

  • I like this version best of all the covers I have heard for several reasons, but the main one is that this is the only one that doesn't try to copy the original verbatim.

  • Great kick-ass cover!

  • Anyone else feel all tingly when he hits those low notes?? :) Fucking awesome singer.

  • Can't decide if I like this or Kreator's cover better. This one certainly has a power metal tone to it. And Alkaline Trio's cover was just boring.

  • FUCKING AAA - THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD

  • From The Systers of Mercy to Nevermore... Nice! Warrel's voice is magnificent!!! \m/ "I hear the roar of a big machine"!

  • Ok, after hearing this song, I wish my name was Lucretia.

  • Alkaline Trio's cover is better.

  • I heard this song and had to check out the original. Damn, the original was such a disappointment after hearing this. I listened to a bunch of the other covers as well, the only one that even comes close to being as good as this one is Dan Swano's and even that one pales in comparison. One of my favorite covers of ALL TIME!

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the original.

  • To all of the knuckle-draggers who would mock the original by Sisters or Mercy; you should pull your heads out of your asses. Andrew Eldritch and Sisters of Mercy actually created relevant material, while you sit and try to critique music via youtube, with your middle school vocabularies. Talk about a bunch of ignorant fags; clearly Warrel Dane understands what a great group he was covering or else he wouldn't have in the first place. Get retroactively aborted.

  • @Mzral well som sucks. what do you expect, fag

  • @SaigaPhoenix308 Yay the idiot who had the nerve to insult the sisters of mercy was banned from youtube. Karma you tasteless bastard. This song pales in comparison to the original.

  • @Mzral I love how you ruin your valid criticism of the poor grammar and spelling on the internet with ignorant homophobic remarks. Way to go.

  • Gotta say that this kinda sucks compared to Dan Swanö's cover. But Dane still rocks.

  • I always like looking at covers, but this just song made me ashamed to be a Sisters of Mercy fan.

  • I met warrell dane after the nevermore concert sunday. We went out to eat and just hung out on the tour bus. He couldn't have been a cooler guy.

  • @metaldave08096 yep, all the guys are way cool. especially jim & warrel.

  • alkaline trios cover is still he best

  • I wish I could mix up my dna with warrels so I was able to sing like he does :)

  • @punkoid76 Listen DORK i am gonna kill you and your whole family and on the grave all metal fans whill put like on the stone!!! got that you mother fucker fuck off!!! >:/

  • @51XxFalleNxX15 yay, stay nice and peaceful and friendly... love and harmony, right? honestly, you sound so ridiculous :D

but awesome cover, warrel dane ftw

  • Alright...im not here to hate.

But this sucks COCK compared to the original...it has none of the energy of the original.

im only saying that in response to people saying SOM suck.

  • @longlivetheloud2 What!? The Original was awful to listen, the original zero minus _ energy.

  • @longlivetheloud2 Implying the original with a minute twenty eight of the most repetitive drum beat and bass line ever with the lead singer talking in an extremely quite voice has energy

  • @longlivetheloud2 If by energy you mean a bunch of goth queers making synth pop music. Then i guess it doesnt. Fag.

  • @SaigaPhoenix308

Firstly, they weren't synth pop. I meant the state of not being metalhead stooges. BR0T4L DUDE!

  • @SaigaPhoenix308 furthermore, apparantley Warrel Dane listens to 'goth queers making synth pop' as does Kreator!

  • @longlivetheloud2 Yeah and kreator and warrel dane made a shitty song rock.

  • Sisters of mercy have been put on notice. you suck SOM

  • I tend to think you usually like the first version of a song(or whatever) that you come across~ It's a bit like first love, I think !

For me, that is still the original 'Sisters of Mercy' track. ~ But hey, the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same stuff ~ And this is his own vision of the song, so kudos to him! ^^

  • this is my fav cover of this song ever

  • This song took a week to grow on me (as most great songs do), but now I can't stop listening to it. AMAZING! I had never heard the original, but I've grown to appreciate that as well. Something dark about it for an 80's song.

  • shoot me if you like but I could care less for the original. this version is fucking rockin...

  • @umbilicaltapeworm Yeah, I don't care at all for the original lol. But I love this version.

  • excellent cover from warrel,he is amazing

  • Hands down ... everybody else go home, this cover takes it! (although SOM's orig. is irreplaceable)

  • Not entirely like the original, but it still has that 80s vibe to it. That and Warrel Dane kicks ass.

  • Man... two best covers of this song. Warrel Dane and Dan Swanö, both gods of metal.

  • Speaking as a massive sisters Fan this version is just BRILLIANT!

  • it's cool... XD

  • Eh, he could have done it WAY better...

  • Heavy & beautiful !!!

  • There's no two ways about it.

    This song rocks.

  • I love the heavyness he puts into this cover.

His vocals almost change the song completely, but that's why it's so great. He's just doing his interpretation of this.

    Aweeeeesome.

  • I love the way this song sounds. The lyrics are pretty badass as well.

Also, if "Lucretia" is a reference to Lucretia from Roman history then it's even more badass.

  • Guess I prefer Gothic to Metal... back to the original...

  • errrmmm.....gothic is metal too maybe ?????

  • @simospeace that is completely wrong. see, there is gothic as genre and there is gothic rock or gothic metal as another genre. Pure gothic you may be never heard. it is not that good.

  • I can't wait to see this show in Arizona.

  • I love this version...Warrel is just so unique and brave with his vocals, the man can do just about anything in my opinion. One of my favorite vocalists by far....

  • @montylaloca7

Or could do anything, I'd like to see him try some of the material from Refuge Denied today (or especially when I see him on Friday)

  • He covered it because he admires Sisters of Mercy, wanted to put a new twist on the song, and because sometimes playing covers is fun (you guys remember that sometimes music is for fun?) But I'll agree with the statement about the album. If he was really out of ideas he'd have made a whole album of just covers, like Ozzy or RATM.

  • I enjoy this cover and occasionally have the urge to listen to it. I am a huge fan of both bands.

Hate to say it here though, but I do still prefer the original version.

  • One of my favorite covers of all time!!!!! F-ing Killer!!!!! Warrel Rules!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you had any idea who Warrel Dane was you'd know you sound like a moron ragging on his vocals

  • the I DONT FEEL bridge is SO INTENSE!! great emotional improvemet from the original

  • @jigaboon i think he tried to make it sound kind of strange on purpose. this isn't warrels best vocal ever but its not bad at all.

  • Jigaboon, go listen to him in Sanctuary. You'll be impressed.

  • very nice ! i love sisters and nevermore !

  • That's a pretty heavy remake, man.

5/5, one of the FEW DECENT COVERS OF THE SISTERS!

  • I love this

  • holly fuck this is epic

  • GREAT FUKKIN TUNE!!!!! LOVE NEVERMORE AND LOVE W>D!!! \m/

  • warrel dane has an amazing and unique voice.and in this song he kicks some serious arse

  • @sheshdd yeah I even love his singing more in his solo project than in nevermore

  • i say matt barlow first, warrel 2nd. but that is just my opinion. but they both have awesome powerful voices and huge ranges. warrel's is bigger tho.

  • I'm forced to agree with the assessment on Matt Barlow. They're both fantastic, Warrel is amazing, but Matt Barlow has so much intense, powerful passion and emotion behind his voice. That man is incredible! Warrel is just amazing too though. The two best singers in metal! Hansi Kursch is a close 3rd in my book.

  • you fucking rock, dude

  • hell ya, hansi is def up there too for me

  • but ya i love the intensity and emotion barlow puts in it. but ya both amazing singers.

  • @elixiriszog, personally i prefer Warrel to Barlow, however they are amazing singers and its hard to tell who exactly is the best of the best.

  • @acdcislaw, I agree. I don't think there really is a "best," per se, especially when talking about great talent. :) That's the great thing about such powerful singers (or songwriters, guitarists, whatever!). They all strike different people in different ways. The "best" is all about what their music means to each person! Ah man, metal forever! No doubt about it, Warrel is one of the best talents in metal vocals out there, and always will be.

  • this is a bad example of warrel danes voice, go listen to the stuff in nevermore or some of his other solo career stuff

  • Nevermore with Jeffs soloing and Warrels voice.. they build the base of music.

  • I like listening to a lot of differnet music, in the end i m always returning to Nevermore und Warrel Dane. Love the miry guitar sound and Warrel's voice, his pronunctiation in general.

'I dont see much evidenzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'....yes yes yes!!!!!!!

  • This song rock!!!

  • I think it all boils down to which song you hear first. I prefer this version over the original, but that may be due to the fact that I heard this one first. Most people prefer the original to the covers, and that may be because they heard the original first.

  • I did however listen to the rest of the Kreator version....I find it difficult to get through the first part of the song and all the industrial electronic softness....it's okay, but I still prefer the rocknessness of this one.

  • I was thinking for sure the Kreator version would be the heavy one.

But this one is actually the heaviest version of this song I've heard.

Still prefer the original of course.

  • as far as cover versions go I prefer the Kreator version

  • seriously, a rather apalling cover, I think it butchers the original, and I dont' care how well-educated he is as a singer, this squeeling shit is an insult...

  • best metal voice eveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer

  • Here's the thing:

Dane has stronger vocals and delivers a lot more emotion than Eldritch - who sings in whispers first then mechanical tones and distant shouts.

But the driving bassline of the original is addicting. I learned of Lucretia last year and still listen to the song on a weekly basis. This cover only "covers" the bass in the intro, which takes a lot of the power from the song.

If I'd learned this cover before the original I'd consider less about the bass and just focus on the vocals

  • Fair enough if you guys like this guy more, personally ive never heard of him before, i just saw this in the related box.

im not defending SOM out of nostalgia though.

    Im only 16 haha

  • Heliosophist: You may know Warrel Dane as the lead singer from Sanctuary / Nevermore.

It is an interesting take but I still like the original better.

  • Sisters version is better.

The vocals in this one arent as good, frankly.

I prefer the distored guitar tone of this version, but it means you cant hear the bass, which as a bassist, was my favourite part of the original.

  • Seriously....You're even comparing that droning, characterless voice of Eldritch to the powerful Warrel Dane?

  • yeah, lucretia without that bass line = damn near pointless.

all right, wouldnt go that far but still..

  • Bass, sure whatever but I am asking why the vocals "aren't as good". In what conceivable way?

  • Dane's vocals are in no way bad, but he just sounds like a fairly standard melodic metal singer, and there's nothing WRONG with that, but they just don't give the same atmosphere to the song that Eldritch's deep vocals do. they don't really suit it.

  • First of all, saying vocals give atmosphere is total bullshit to start with, it can give MOOD and Eldritch's does....a slow, droning, monotonous sound. At least Warrel has the belt to give some emotion to it.

Sorry for getting aggressive with it but Warrel is one of my idols and has changed my outlook on what a vocalist should do.

  • whoever is rating this sht down needs hit. SERIOUSLY.

  • lol warrel dane running out of ideas? it simply doesn't happen. maybe you should listen to some of his lyrics and singing in nevermore before you judge and make yourself look like an ass.

  • the best version of this song I've ever heard

    Warrel rocks!

  • fuckin' ae!

  • This is a massive improvement over the original.

  • sounds more menacing than the original. i like.

  • it has a different atmosphere and i think its good.

  • sorry but for me at least, it has no atmosphere at all :/

  • I think Dane puts a lot of awesomeness behind the words... he interpreted it in his own way and I feel the words when he sings them. So... whatever. Most people like this, that I've met. Your loss.

  • So it's bad not to copy the song?

It's bad that it doesn't sound like the original?

This is how all cover's should sound...

Just like the song would sound if warrel was the one who wrote this song in the first place....

If you don't like how it sounds, that is fine.

    But your arguments are lame...

  • warrel thank fuck, didn't write this song in the first place.

i'm not saying he has to copy the song, in fact, covers that are just carbon copies of the original irritate me intensely.

what makes the sisters of mercy version of this so good is it has atmosphere. take that away and you lose the point of the song.

turning a classic sisters song into a generic pop metal song is just wrong, same goes for Cradle of Filth.

have you even heard the original? if not, then your opinion is null and void

  • Have you even read what I have wrote below???

  • yes, and my point is a good cover version is supposed to add to the song, not take away.

i don't know why you started this argument in the first place, because i said that FOR ME, it had no atmosphere. i was GIVING MY OPINION, not saying everyone else should share the same view.

  • 1. just because someone else likes this version and you like the original doesn't make your opinion more right or justified. 2. you have no right to tell ANYONE their opinion is "null or void" if they haven't heard the original. 3. this song added an entirely new atmosphere, an epic and modern feel. 4. i think the original sucks and i'm sure i'm not the only one. 5. type o negative is terrible.

  • you are an idiot.

just because the original isn't all metal metal metal.

which you are in no position to complain about, having pop princesses Bullet For My Valentine in your favourites ROFLMAO

  • lol i can listen to whatever i want and i listen to way more than just metal... i like rap, country, and electronica too. by the way, how am i in no position to complain about it? i'm sorry but that makes no sense, we all have free speech and we can say whatever the flying fuck we want. my liking for a song by bullet for my valentine and my right to dislike the original song are not related by any means, therefore, you sir, are using a strawman argument. good day, moron. :)

  • Sisters of Mercy bores me immensely. In fact, they are only defended like this because of their nostalgia factor.

  • no, not really. having been born in 1991, i can't say that i am nostalgic about the 80s.

there are many other sisters fans who also weren't around in the 80s.

And even by those who were, The Sisters of Mercy are defended because they are a great, influential band who have written tons of classic songs

  • Uhhhh.....sorry but that's wrong. People don't cover a song because they think the original needs improving. They usually cover because it's one of their all-time favourites and they want to put their own SPIN on it.

  • I'm sorry, not feeling any atmosphere from the SOM version. If you're trying to say MOOD then I can understand but it just sounds like droning of the bass to me. If it was truly atmospheric, it would have the clang of machinery in the background.

  • Dont forget Cynic and Agalloch.

And then theres old stuff like Manilla Road and Virgin Steele.

  • not true at all. a lot of good metal bands came from america. Nevermore, Death, Morbid Angel, Atheist, and a lot of great thrash bands

  • Now that's one sweet cover!

But I still prefer the original...

Highlights: the bleak intro and the woe cry "I don't feel"

  • Finally, someone who understand the meaning of doing a cover song, that you must love the original song too make a cover of it, for all of those kids who say that sister's are shit, ask your "GOD" Warrel what he think about that song, he din't do it for no reason.

  • Warrel is definetly one of the best singers ever in metal, and I dare say, in music in general.

Jeff Loomis is one of the best guitarists in the world, and with Warrel, the music they create is just pure genius...

Warrel amazes me with every tone he sings... Such vocal range combined with incredible feel and colour is beyond this world.

  • Since when has goth been commercial music ? First off the whole goth ethos is anti fashion, hardly what you call commercial ! Although the sisters of mercy did appear on several TV shows mostly MTV and labelled as 'Alternative'

Metal is more commercial than any music, AC DC, metallica, Slipknot and on and on .............

  • your right men, but not all metal bands only a few like posers you said! Listn to Death, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Virgin Steele, Pantera and many more!

This is fucking good metal as its best and kicks all posers like metallica slipknot in the ass!

  • I'm a major metalhead, have been since I was a kid, and I this is great but I don't think the original is as well liked by the others here as me.

Isn't Sisters considered goth music by the way?

  • This version is so much better than the original. Dane is a God!!!

  • It does? Interesting.... he had 11 other songs on the album (of which 2 are covers), which are actually too MANY songs, in at least my opinion. Points more towards an excess of ideas, doesn't it?

Im not saying they are all good, though... but that is mostly due to that Soilwork whore that can't really write varied enough music. All hail Jeff Loomis!

  • Best comment EVAR. :D

I laughed for the rest of the day when this one appeared in my email.

  • Sisters didnt cover his music because they make commercial bullshitt as i said. Temple of love and such more bullshit songs in the charts in the 90`s

  • Not to mention their career was over by the time Warrel was getting big, and it's chronologically impossible to cover a song that hasn't been written yet.

  • This men was told to replace Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden or join DEATH with the genious Chuck Schuldiner Dudes! Did you know what and about who you are speaking?

  • Warrel Dane is God! Who the fuck is Sisters of Mercy?!?! Commercial bullshitt! And warrel Dane is not a new Artist, what the fuck you noobs!

He makes musik till 81 in the band Serpents Knight!

    With Nevermore he RULEZ!

  • Warrel album is great, he's one of the best metal singer ever for sure, but you should learn that sister's was one of the best underground band in the 80's, they definitely influenced a lot of today's metal band, so don't talk about things you obviously know nothing about!

  • You should learn to accept other opinions. Sisters never influence Metalmusic. They were Always a chart and pop band in the 80s seen in the charts in television Jukebox and 90´s with songs like doctor alban and snap. I`m 32 listn to metal till 20 years my friend if you speak from pink floyd or led zepp, i agree but not sisters, NEVER!

  • And i'm 10 years older than you so don't give me that crap about ages, if sister never influenced metal band why in the hell are they making cover off it, WAKE UP!!!

  • They make cover of it because it sounds good with metalsound!

Warrel Dane is the only metal Frontman who covers sisters! Wake up! And it is the only song ever covered from sisters by a metalband! Why did blind guardian cover beach boys?!?! Because beache boys influence metalmusic?!!?! What a hell.....

  • Dude, you don't seem to understand what "influence" means. An apple influenced the founding of a theory. So of course beach boys could influence metal music. Stop being close-minded.

And no, Warrel Dane isn't the only one who did a "metal" version. Kreator did one too but it's absolutely horrid.

  • Dan Swanö also did one.

And of course stuff like Sisters of Mercy had an influence on many metal bands......especially gothic and darker stuff like Type O Negative.

  • Warrel is a newer artist

  • Eh, I like Project 86's version better.

  • warrel Kicked ass with this one!

i saw the sisters of mercy vid, They may have originated the song but really fucked it up.

Warrel did it with the power it deserved

  • Your Right man! Metal Rulez!

  • Sisters make a chartsong and "Warrel did it with the power it deserved " in metallic!

  • Warrel goes old school! Kick ass cover Mr Sentient

  • I have to admit... this cover is nowhere near the quality of the original...

And I just started listening to SOM recently, so im not some random rabid fan...

  • Poetry!!!!!!!
