I really like your work! I never got into circuit bending, but was always fascinated by it after seeing it done many a year ago. Where do you get your samples from? found online? sound engineered? natural?
@Aiml3ss i wouldn't consider this circuit bending. circuit bending to me implies a lack of understanding of the circuit, more poking around in the dark looking for cool things to happen.
and samples? im not sure what you mean. the korg kpr-77 is an analog drum machine so all sounds are synthesized within the unit, which means all parameters of the sound can be modified. no digital samples, or tape for that matter is used in the construction of the rhythms. unless you mean the machine itself...
@psyingo mmmm, thank you for clarifying that for me :)
I wasn't aware of the design of the kpr-77 and other analog drum machines for that matter. So the samples on it are factory default then? can they be replaced?
@Aiml3ss there are no samples. think of it like a real drum set, you can do things to the drums to alter things like decay, tuning, etc. but you can't make a snare be a cymbal. these are sounds that are generated electronically, and are very similar to acoustic drums in a sense. when a stick hits the membrane of a drum, the membrane vibrates at a frequency, dissipating energy. when the circuit is stimulated by a 'drum stick' (an electronic pulse), the membrane (a tuned feedback network) vibrates
@Aiml3ss the sounds are what they are, and you can't really 'replace' them with other sounds. the only way you could get another sound would be to construct another circuit or buy another drum machine, just like buying another drum. digital samplers on the other hand have the ability to swap samples easily, but the parameters of sound aren't easily changed.
@psyingo Awesome! I must say you have quite a knack for making clear and understandable what you are trying to get across. Thank you for the further commentary :)
Now I want to get my hands on an analog drum machine too >_< aaahhhhh if only I had the time/money
Wish you all the best with your musical works. I like what I've heard so far!
@maolyn666 thanks. id make another one if i had another kpr-77. but if you are handy with the soldering iron and have one, you can check out our website for the modding details.
