"You don't have to let me win, she was screaming. But he couldn't hear it at all."
OooOoooooooh. :3
I ADORE THAT CHAPTER Jamie reads. Norbert's voice is soo gorgeous and deep and soothing it's like caramel. :) I'd want HIM to read me a bedtime story sometime soon.

God, I love this song. It bugs me though that the audience laughed so hard that they missed the part where she said "Whyyyyy does this pianist hate me??" Haha I love that part. But this is amazing. I love this show!!
I personally really enjoy her and her singing, and i think that she is believable. how many of you would really walk around talking with giant facial expressions?? it is her subtlety that makes it look really real. she and Norbert are both subtle in this show. and about what @AtLastOnTheGround said: "...the best contemporary musical theater actresses." key words "Contemporary Musical Theater"
but this is just my opinion. I think she is absolutely brilliant in this song
This is definitely my favorite song in terms of performance for Sherie...honestly I don't really like her acting portrayal of Cathy. She sings the songs with a lot of emotion and by just listening to her on the soundtrack you learn a lot more about Cathy than by watching Sherie's blank face forever.
Also, her audition "outfit" really bugs me. I understand Cathy's not supposed to be a great actress, but why would anyone wear that to an audition?
That's the only costume she wears in the entire show aside form the wedding dress. They add a sweater or a coat...but they basically just keep it to that one, horrible outfit....
Are you serious? SRS is one of the best contemporary musical theater actresses. Just because she doesn't make over-the-top faces and hand gestures doesn't make her a bad actress. She's realistic. She's believable.
@AtLastOnTheGround yes, Im serious. I dont think you have to be over-the-top to be good. I personally feel like she has absolutely no expression. I don't believe her. The deep pain, the struggles of this character come across beautifully through the songs, but would you know what she was feeling if you watched these videos muted? I don't care about this character when I watch her performance.
SRS is a true actress. You can tell she does hours and hours of character homework -- I see a believable human being named Cathy, not an illustrated cartoon of "Cathy."
I think he is believable too. The difference is he is far more interesting to watch than she is. And my lack of interest in her makes her not as likable which really makes you wonder why Jamie was ever attracted to her in the first place.
I know about 2,000 people are gonna hate me for this, considering in almost every video I've seen of this song, a majority of the comments say something along the lines of "It's not like Sherie!" She can sing, yes. Like most performances of this song, the acting is...sub-par. I know that when the lights are dark it's her inner thoughts. Even still, that doesn't mean don't put any emotion to your words. I dunno. She doesn't do a whole outside of the inner-thought stuff either. Just saying.
I believe that the reason that her face is so blank during this song is that she is at an audition and scared out of her mind...plus, the character, Cathy, isn't actually supposed to be a very good actress. That's the entire point. So, she is a dear in headlights basically. Even during her inner thoughts, she is thinking these things while doing her audition so her face is reflecting the audition, not what she is thinking.
Meh. That just sounds like an excuse. I've been too/seen a ton of auditions. I've been scared myself and knew people who were backstage throwing up. You don't just stand there. You get up there, and you use all of those feelings to your advantage.

i saw this about a week ago with julie atherton and it was SO much better than this clip. :S i expected more of this considering sherie's in the original off broadway cast. :S
@checkmytechnique09 There currently is word that L5Y will be coming to Bway with Jason Robert Brown himself directing. There's also word of a film version, but I don't know how they can pull that off.
I love how little she moves.

I like how they changed the lights to show her inner thoughts; great idea!

Love this song. I'm a performer, and I am WAY more nervous for auditions than I am for the actual performance.
Of course, Sherie does it perfectly. :)

cathy is jewish in this show, why did she cross her heart? and this is the original

... Cathy's not Jewish. Jamie is. That's kind of the point of "Shiksa Goddess".
