I think the reason you hit the net is because different button combinations have different swings for example b is the slice I believe which lobs the ball and puts more air on it. The a b shot (power shot as I call it) hits the ball over head it will bounce sooner than if you did the a shot. Try using the power shot when you farther away from the net or very close to it.
