Thank you for this video. With my Sony Handycam, at least, it's also vitally important to hook up the camera to its power source. So you'll have the power cable to the outside of the camera and the USB connection to the inside.
You're an angel for making this video. I wish I was exaggerating when I say I spent ALL day today reading forums and blogs on this when I gave up and googled 'handycam for mac' & your video came up.....so simple! Now to delete all 4 converter programs I was told to download
PLEASE HELP!! For someone reason, when I go to "share" so that I can upload my newly imported video to "youtube", neither the "facebook" or "youtube" option is clickable. Please tell me why this is happening, and what I can do. Thanks so much!!
I GOT MORE INFO IN THIS 2 MINUTE VIDEO THAN I DID READING AND SEARCHING FOR OVER AN HOUR ON HOW TO HAVE THE DRIVE SHOW UP ON MAC. THANKS SO EFFING MUCH, YOU'RE A DOLL!!!
I own sony xr160 HD and one thing what makes me upset is when importing into Imovie is it takes ages to import the videos, there is no copy and paste....
okay now mine has two option for recording Standard and HD. When I plug my device (i think) it only finds the standart quality videos. I imported them but i cant import the other ones. Do you know haw can i manage to import the HD ones too.
Additional Info: My device is HDR-CX115E and i am using imovie 2008.
I miss you guys again since I was your home 2 month ago! I had a problems to use my sony handycam HDR CX12 for My Macbook 17 pro! I I happened check my swisshong@gmail & I found your VIDEO how to use use sony camcorder,I was so happy that I can work my sony video with my Mac pro at last ! thank you mike,
THANK YOU!!! I was looking for how to import video from my friends camera to my mac and was hitting walls everytime. I finally googled sony handycam for mac and saw a youtube link. This is the video that came up and although my computer software is not exactly the same I followed your directions and now have the video. THANK YOU so much for making this youtube clip.
I have a sony DCR-SR82 and everytime I plug it into my computer it automatically opens Iphoto so I try to upload my footage and it says the videos are not recognizable. The files are MPEG so I don't know if that affects them? Please help if you can.
Man, there's any way to view the image of the camera in iMovie or other mac software? Like, monitor the image , and record? Thank you! 5 stars for the video =)
This only works for non-HD clips on my Sony HD-SR11. The HD clips are in a .mts format that isnt recognized by my mac OSX 10.6. Did Sony pay this convergineer to mislead us into believing this would work? iMovie only pulls non-HD clips from cameras. There is some paid software that can do the conversion for $35. Windows 7 runs this with no problem. It worked on my MacBook Pro with Parallels and Windows 7. I would recommend not even recording in HD. Its been such a pain in the assSSS!!!!!
Wrong. iMovie will pull HD content just fine. However, iMovie will only let you import SD content from your camcorder IF you have ANY SD content on it all (even if you also have HD content). ie: if you want iMovie to see your HD content you must remove/delete all of your SD content first. This is an iMovie issue and not a Sony issue. Remove/Delete all of the SD content from the camcorder and iMovie will import/edit the HD AVCHD content just fine.
is there any drivers that you used or anything because when i try to hook up my sony HDR-XR350v to my macbook pro running snow leopard the only way to view the video is using toast and it is not a file that is recognized by imovie.
