These songs weren't necessarily meant to be cross faded into one another. For example Exit Music flows perfectly into Weird Fishes without a crossfade. Exit Music ended, slow and soft. Weird Fishes starts with drumsticks counting in for the tempo of Weird Fishes. I personally think this is genius, because there really isn't too many ways to flow a soft, slow song into a fast louder song. The drumsticks that count in the tempo are almost an excuse to flow the songs together.
For me you just took some songs, cobine them together and proofed nothing. I love Radiohead, but the thing is they have own style which makes songs similar and combinable. Thats all.
I don't know what happened with your Bodysnatchers/Homesick Alien one, but mine was absolutely perfect. I can't post the link, but I uploaded a video of it a while back, check it out.
I'm currently uploading individual "tracks" of the superalbum (there's 10 of them, nudge nudge), though it doesn't adhere to the 10 second crossfade - sometimes the songs sound better with different fades and switcheroos, so I did that, because really, I wanted to make something I'd quite like to listen to, and on 10 second crossfade, PA into Bodysnatchers just doesn't work at all.
Nude has a weird ending because parts of it are the song reversed. take a listen. Honestly that blew my mind more than any of these synchs. In my humble opinion, most of these are just sheer coincidence, and rather large stretches.
i belive it. its creepy! the funny part was i kinda figured this out on my own and thought i was being paranoid cause i was listening to the music before bed. so at least im not the only one who thought that.
It always confused me i thought the bleeps were the begining of paranoid android but there not at the start of paranoid android on the best of but now it makes sense.
i believe that radiohead did this on purpose because yorke himself said it was deliberate. but on 15 step, when i listened to it on a seperate video, the three "boops" were not there before yorke started to sing. wondering where that noise came from?
@alexavalladares the boops are at the end of Airbag from OK Comp, thats what he was saying is the boops from Airbag lead directly into the singing on 15 Step which is weird and cool
That transition is basically the death of the first and the begging of the last. The binary would look like this 10101010100101010101. See the middle is the same and so is the start and the end. It’s kinda complicated but you know what I mean.... right?
i believe that the message is about two opposites that fall in love and realize they can't because they are opposites and they have to stay that way because it's the order of things. But they are fine with that because they know they can be together when they are dead; because they will no longer be opposites. Death is the great equalizer. That’s why the transition from part one of the play list to part two has two songs from the same cd.
Yeah, as a musican, you get this kind of stuff all the time by messing around with your own music, I wouldn't doubt that cross-fading a band's songs would result in some pretty fun transitions. I didn't think the Nude ones were all that mindblowing or any of the rest for that matter. Actually, I liked the ones that the video maker didn't, like the one going into body snatchers.
Okay, I'm with the 01/10 thing for the ten years apart and ten letters and all that but this secret playlist is highly debatable to me. As an ex-DJ, I can tell you that you can crossfade all kinds of things and it will sound like they were supposed to go together. Honestly there is nothing here that sounds all that conclusive to me. Sometimes we see (or hear in this case) things only because we are looking for them.
@stusvend its not just that but its also the message..notice how body snatchers and Subterranean homesick alien (my opinion the best transition) are together as opposites. So the messages also synch if you get into it
@stusvend it's not just about the sound they have on the transition. it's about the message. i believe that the message is about two opposites that fall in love and realize they can't because they are opposites and they have to stay that way because it's the order of things. then, when it's too late, they realize that they could have broken the rules and been togeather but it's too late because they're dead. but it's okay that they're dead because now they are the same (dead) and can be togeathe
@Duja1014 True but one could gather that meaning from Exit Music only. I'm not saying that you're wrong but the whole thing seems to be a matter of speculation and perspective. Radiohead's most cohesive lyrics are cryptic at best. Radiohead is most certainly more than clever enough to pull this whole thing off though. It is just my opinion that those songs dont really all "sound" like they go together that great. Put a long cross fade on just about anything and it becomes congruent.
@stusvend It's not about how they sound flowing into each other. and no you can't get that from exit music only! you could say that tom york stole the 1984 idea... because that very same "star crossed" lover scenario is in it; it's almost like romeo and juliet... but done through a series of 20 songs.... this isn't my opinion if you just simply listen to them all with an open mind and with the lyrics in front of you, you will know it. Stop looking for how they sound flowing into eachother!!
@stusvend you do know that this, "!" doesn't mean a person is yelling it means that they are saying something with emotion; it could be a whole variety of emotions.. not just angry =) anyway not trying to start an internet argument, just thought i'd let you know that... in other words, i was calm =P
@stusvend ex-DJ? How can you be an ex-DJ? You never loved music as much as I did you just became a DJ because I HAVE NO ARMS!!! just joking. Good video skinnydipper16, thanks for doin all that work. I agree with stusvend about the songs matching up, an some of em are a little hinky, but I'm pretty sure they sound perfect in Thom's head.
@stusvend Thom Yorke confirmed the 01/10 playlist was intentional, and according to cracked.com, he was mad that it took people so long to figure it out.
i understand why you would be skeptical though. i was thinking the same thing. i will say that it sounds better on my itunes than on this video though.
@stusvend a lot of this theory isn't just based on them sounding good though. sometimes the key of the songs are the same and sometimes the lyrics have similar themes/messages. and actually if you play the end of airbag without cross fading and just play 15 step right after normally without crossfade, the 3 beeps at the end of airbag actually sound like they were meant to go to the beginning of 15 step. and even if you don't think the theory works, you still have a kickass playlist of songs :p
You're looking for something that isn't there. All of these transitions sound like shit because they weren't meant to be played like that.

This is my full 01/10 playlist. As I said, doesn't keep to the 10 second crossfade thing but I think it sounds better for it. Enjoy!

What the fuck, I just did it, and I didn't get the boop boop. I set the crossfade to 10 seconds in iTunes.

@thenoisecode Only because this guy messed up. I have a friend who synced it perfectly. In his version, you could swear it was the same album.

@IsaacQuinnHorton if you upload that I'd be happy to redirect everyone here to it. It's not like I bothered getting ads off this or anything

@skinnydipper16 You did an overall good job, just a couple of ones. Some of the ones you said didn't go well I thought actually went great.
But one or two were off.
No biggie in my opinion

Despite the fact that Paranoid Android's outro and the intro to Bodysnatchers don't synch up perfectly, they both sound really frantic and urgent.
